I used it for years and loved the design. In fact, I'm thinking of going back to it now, in 2023, because it was so excellent for texting and for making calls in bright sunlight. I cannot find any other phone today that is as practical for those two purposes combined. It had the best physical keyboard I've found on a phone. I later switched to the HTC Desire-Z, but it's nowhere near as practical for making calls in bright sunlight. I wish there were other phones today, based on the e-90 design. I don't understand why Nokia didn't further develop the Communicator series, preserving the basic folding design with the keyboard and keypad. It made so much sense.
@@AbdullaZaki I had lumia 520 as main phone for 7 years. In December 2017, I had an idea to use 3510i for calls, and 520 for internet (only wifi), because 520 had lost power button, and I didn't trust it so much. In 2020, I wanted to change 3510i to another. Then I heard about communicators, it was MIND BLOWING that 2004 phone had wifi, Bluetooth, etc. I truly wanted a communicator. Then I bought 9500 at second hand market, and in fall I changed the hinges and they lasted 1,5 years. The device was amazing for writing, I wrote many documents on it at school and sent the documents to Nokia 7.2 with bt. Then the hinges broke, and repairing was expensive. Then I started to use E90. Writing experience is not good, but the media possibilities, gps, wider software library, etc. Made the device amazing everyday item.
I used the E90 for about 9 months. I used an N82 for multimedia, but the E90 was my "communicator" I loved the fact that I started a text message blindly - walking on the sidewalk, not looking at the phone, using the outer display, and opening the phone to finish the message. Many of these hones had a problem with the microphone, as it was soldered directly next to the vibration motor. The camera was okay, sound was good, one of my best phones to this day.
Had a E-90 back in the days (I still have it in btw). I actually got it months before the release because I wrote (business) software for it. I absolutely loved it. The first phone in Netherlands with HSDPA+ support, the keyboard, the screen, it was really awesome. I also had a hosting company at the time and with this device I was able to provide 24/7 support because I could SSH to my servers from everywhere. Loved when strangers when making fun of the size (“what is that for weird big brick!”) and you’d open up the phone showing the keyboard and display, the reaction immediately changed to “wooooowww that’s cool!” And it’s the only phone I used for 3 years without having the need to upgrade. I moved to the N900 when that came out, this was a very good device as well, but the E90 was better for typing, the battery-life of the N900 was very bad and the UX of the E90 was way better (N900 used Maemo Linux which was quite cool, but not very performant and the UX was underdeveloped).
So glad to watch this from you about the E90, Abdulla! I use as my main personal phone the 9210 since I was 23 :) and the E90 has been also in my pocket just right after was on the market ( I spent all my two months salary to afford it ) such a beautiful device with a superb keyboard and incredibly clear screen i saw so many movies on that! Now days i take pictues, video and by the Ira i can send data to my 9210 simply irreplaceable they are to me! Many thanks again to share this pearl on UA-cam! Lets keep alive the Legend ❤
I see you are also a man of culture :D Glad you enjoyed this video and I hope I will be able to feature more communicators on the channel because I love that series!
I had this bad boy for years. It was excellent. The only drawback was the camera, which was already outdated for its time. I am now using Cosmo Communicator as a secondary device, which has a lot in common with this.
I miss this phone. I had one before and yes, it was such a great phone that did multi-tasking easier. I even did presentations from my phone using the cable that could directly connect to a TV. Thanks for bringing back nostalgia.
I loved mine, I had every Communicator from the 9000il to the e90 todays smartphones have nothing on Communicators. It would be amazing to see a modern Communicator with all the power of a modern Smartphone, we really don’t need touch displays imo.
Great review. I remember these devices. I was still with Nokia at the time and have to remember the model I had at the time. Thing is this was priced out of my reach. Still, nice callback to when device makers still took risks in the name of innovation.
Thank you! I was dying to get my hands one this one but noway could I afford it back then haha. Felt nice to finally be able to buy one, and btw it wasn't cheap at all.... $400

I remember that phone very well because I had it when my daughter was born in 2009, the first picture of my daughter in my arms was with it and in a few minutes it was on FB and my mom and dad had it, that was something impressive at that time. Another cool thing was that I opened it as a laptop and put it on a base in the car and the GPS was very useful, the first time I saw a dynamic 3D map. My next phone was an iPhone 3GS and the Nokia took better pictures although it was slow to focus.
BEST NUMBER 1 PHONE EVER. WHEN CELL PHONE NOW COME TO MY COUNTRY THE FIRST ONE I BOUGHT WAS A NOKIA PHONE. IT WORKS VERY GOOD. TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY AND A FEW DAYS AGO I BOUGHT AN C30 NOKIA FOR MY BIRTHDAY. I'M ENJOYING IT. BEST PHONE EVER.
This thing used to be my dream device when it first came out, but I just couldn't rationalize the cost so got the N95 instead, later I got the E72 to satisfy that itch for an E-series model
All things considered, the N95 was great as well, but yeah, the E90 is just on a whole other level of "cool". E72 was a very nice phone, which colour did you get it in?
Had this one for a couple years. Awesome phone. I remember I had a number of strange charges show up on my bill, so I downloaded software that showed exactly how the line had been used (it was some Symbian app that would have worked on any compatible phone) but the network tech that I was dealing with was very suspicious that I was getting info I was not supposed to access. It was stolen from me at gunpoint and when the thieves were caught (I got the phone back, but it was damaged) the value moved the charge up a grade and increased their jail time.
I loved my E90 back in the day,. I think that is possibly why my Z Fold 5 is currently my favourite phone for years. It has a similar 'hand feel' I think. Best phone of it's day, despite it's faults, and the D pad was 'iffy'. Wish I still had one now though!
Another awesome Nokia device. RIP Nokia, you were the best. I paid $1059 to be one the first to get this phone 2 weeks before regular release. One of my all time favorites, built like a tank and thought to be so big at the time. Funny but it looks so small next to todays phones. I'd get lots of comments when I'd pull it out. Everybody thought it was the coolest phone they'd seen. Nokia made the best phones back then, bar none!
Still have one , boxed , in England you get free upgrades and this was a free upgrade I never used it and I completely forgot about it! Watched your video and for hang on minutes I'm pretty sure I have one of those kicking around somewhere yep where I left it many many years ago still find myself having difficulty opening it 😂. And I found a brand new zune 30 in the box unopened as well!
I was scrolling around and your thumbnail stopped me dead in my swipes. I was a massive Nokia fan back in the day. I had an N95 and I loved that device so much. While everyone was all smitten by the iPhone (2007) with it's terrible battery life (non-swappable), terrible 2MP camera with no video recording, no app store, terrible single speaker and you couldn't even copy/paste. The OS was pretty bare bones. I mean, you couldn't even set a wallpaper. The virtual keyboard and capacitive touchscreen were pretty groundbreaking though. Meanwhile, I had my N95 with and army of fully charged batteries (infinite battery life), amazing at the time Carl Zeiss 5MP A.F. w/flash lens with 480p video recording as well as a front facing camera, Symbian app store, great stereo speakers and a more developed OS. There wasn't much I couldn't do on my N95. Loved that device! I used it as my daily driver up until the iPhone 4 release. I finally retired it at that point. I never used a case and the N95 had some scars. Built tough and was very reliable. Enter the Nokia E90 Communicator. I wanted this device so bad back when it was released and I almost bought it but finding one and being able to afford it was a different story. It was my grail phone at the time. In the US the price was ridiculous and network compatibility wasn't great. So I was never able to buy one and time rolled on. Seeing it again brings back some cool memories of those times. Now I'm using and iPhone 13 Pro and newly acquired Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4. The Z Flip 4 is my daily driver at the moment being it's brand new. I really like the old school feel to the device with new technology under the hood. The iPhone just seems so plain and boring sitting on my desk next to the Flip 4. I would love to see an N95 video like this. Subbed and liked. Keep up the great work! EDIT: Dude, your channel is an insane nostalgia drop! I just found your N95/N96 videos. Love it.
Amazing what seemed to be a big phone in the past looks so small now. Never had an E90 but my dad did have the older communicator. Was an amazing phone back in the day. Thanks for reminding me of this phone 👍🏼
I bought an Nokia 8110 a couple of years ago Best investment ever because this was my dream phone during the 90s but didn't have the money. Went crazy for the phone not for the shape or slide but the screen had options to change icons into shortcuts Still works but I keep it safe in my cabinet, battery seperately
@@AbdullaZaki Brown/Bronze, whatever they called it - just like yours. Judging by the comments, there are a few others out there too. Mine will need a new battery, to replace the original, that's why I put a SIM back in it, to see if it would work on today's networks. Selecting letters on the Keypad is a bit like hard work nowadays, but I'll try to find whether there's a use case - maybe "I like playing with it" - to help me decide on whether to shell out for the battery or not!
Putting aside the device you are currently reviewing, I am so happy to see you and your channel grow! I remember your first videos long time from over a decade ago and glad I am still subcribing and watching you, my favourite Nokia fanboy on youtube! Take care.
I still remember, It was just released and Jumbo had limited stocks but successfully managed to get one for my boss who was desperate to get this. Golden times of Nokia.
Walking around with an E90 in 2007 was a clear sign of status symbol haha. I was always buying my phones from Sharjah which were a bit cheaper but usually came with decent warranty. But this was way out of my budget!
I absolutely loved my E90. Brings back so many memories. It was the greatest phone Nokia ever released. I still have mine, must be over 15 years old now, it certainly looks it! I got it as a free upgrade. I think I had the E65 before it. In mocha as well. E90 was just so much more. I used that phone day in, day out. It just kept taking the punishment and even the odd clumsy drop as well. Only ever seen two other E90s being used in the wild. It was eventually replaced by an N86, but I never really liked that phone and had issues with it, so the E90 didn’t get an easy retirement. I think the best way to sum jt up is to list the Nokias I had before I went to iPhone- 6260, N70, N73, N95, N95 8GB, 5800, E65, E90, N86, N8 and Lumia 800. I only have the E90 still. I couldn’t part with it. Every other phone was just a phone. The E90 was an extension of me. And the absolute peak of Nokia.
I used to have it in 2009 and I love it. I used most of Nokia E series my favorite was e61i. It cost 1500$ that time in my local currency. Now mobiles are too boring and no innovation.
Every time the welcome tune started to play, a kind of wail arose in my chest. I felt tears in the corners of my eyes. Ah, lost days, lost childhood.love from Bangladesh
I wanted this absolutely beautiful peace of technology when it came out! I was still in school back then! So couldn't buy it! It's refreshing to see it after all these years!
Thanks so much for posting this video, for it has taken back to the nostalgia of when I used to review Nokia devices on my ow UA-cam channel! The E90 Communicator was a huge fave of mine that was second to the E71 model. I recall my first red E90 Communicator being referred to as "The Brick" by fellow coworkers who all owned the iPhone. Fun times back then in 2007 and 2008.
New Nokia has brought back a few classic devices that old Nokia used to sell …. If they ever make a foldable they should call it the E90 Commicator …. I wouldn’t mind a slightly smaller outer screen so they could put a chrome frame around it.
Even i loved this device, this was my boss had this but i was also no able to buy it. Even today i have a special place for NOKIA phones in my heart, thanks for airing this video, i simply loved it.
My dad was dreaming having this phone, but it was Expensive for that time. If they made remastered version, it will be great. For now, seeing Symbian is kinda difficult to use. Maybe will be nice if it use Android optimize for this device
To this day, this remains the most amazing piece of handheld (for the time of release) hardware ever. It is so cool and iconic that the price for units like this one should go up with time imo.
I had this phone for at least 3 years back in 2008. Loved it but it was really heavy. I was able to play quake 3 on it with Bluetooth mouse and it's keyboard.😁
I had to subscribe. I just love this kind of content and the quality of this channel. Well done, man! Well done! Like you, I also couldn't afford this phone back in the days. And while I did have a few Symbians as my daily phones, I didn't have this one, or one of the older "communicator" ones. And now...while I could probably afford it, our new "smartphones" took over the world by storm, so...I'm not sure how I would be able to handle my daily tasks on this phone. But it would definitely be a nice challenge. OMG, I loved Symbian S60 (v3). Such a beautiful, elegant and functional OS. And that keyboard was indeed magnificent. Nokia was one of the best, if not the best in manufacturing mobile phones keyboards. They were so resilient, and yet, easy to replace, in case they got damaged. But it was a rare occurrence when that happened. Those phones were built to last!
I love this phone. I remember seeing its advertisement banner on the local market, realizing I'm never gonna afford that (I was in primary school back then). Now I kinda can, although I'm not entirely sure if I should 😂
Can confirm, my E90 speakers are still holding up pretty well even for today's standards. They eclipse my 2020-released Note 10 lite, even though this only has mono, which is a shame for me
I got mine for about £90 on my £20 12 month contract back in the day, an absolute bargain and absolutely loved it. It still remained my backup phone almost to today and only really stopped using it when I got the N900 and wanted to mess about with Linux based stuff. Would still love a full qwerty to this day.
I used all the communicators and still have them. For emails i so do miss it - and to make tactile dialed calls on the closed outer side, this was and is just the best . iPhones are just missing all the ergonomics that tactile keyboards have and also to separate screen and keyboard, plus the better functionality by those keys…. Ah, I can so understand you. I would purchase instantly a symbiosis between todays 15 pro max and the tactile quality of the big Nokia with outside simple phone function and inside a screen plus a physical keyboard
I had a good experience with the E90... Audio quality is superb using high end bluetooth headset or 3.5mm audio jack... The video audio codec is close to the quality of the Pureview 808 😛😎
I used to have the 9110 and then got the 9210, the best back then with fax, and also the composer app, I used to compose a lot of ring tones and sent them to my friends who had the 6110 via infrared, that was in 2000 I think , and that was before any shop sold ring tones which were made by me in UAE 😁😁
I would love one.. Where can I get it though.. Got myself a Galaxy Fold 2 with heavy spigen casing to kind of imitate d communicator.. but seems still an in love with d communicator.. But due to its heavy pricing couldn’t get in 2007.. But not now as u say.. Thanks for making this video.. Love from India..

@@shortyxmoshpigx5488 Yeah, the main feature of the 9300i over the regular one was WiFi. I have the non-i version
The first of the communicator series was the 9000 with a monochrome display. I used to own one at work. Apart from email I remember getting a dedicated fax number - this thing could send and receive faxes :)
@@49andz uh yes! thats another thing that seperates the e90 from the other communicators: iirc it was not capable of receiving faxes anymore!
i wonder if any provider still offers fax as a service 😂
I still have this communicator in my drawer with original box. I just love how this is made it's indestructible! Love it!
The best ever phone I owned...even today in 2023...❤❤❤
Legend is legend there's no replace for legends. Nokia E90 the father of all smartphones
Finally a video of a communicator !! I've used communicators for 2 years, 9500 had weak hinges so I use E90 nowdays. Amazing device !!
U use E90 as your main phone in 2022?
@@ighayinosayi No, I use two phones, E90 and 7.2
Shame about the hinges on the 9500, but also a really cool device. I'm amazed that you can still use the E90 today. What do you use it for?
@@AbdullaZaki where do you buy these phones from? Do they accept crypto payments?
Interesting fact. You managed to pick 2 of some of the only Symbian S60 3rd that had a dedicated GPU that was never utilised 😭 such a shame really
Loved when strangers when making fun of the size (“what is that for weird big brick!”) and you’d open up the phone showing the keyboard and display, the reaction immediately changed to “wooooowww that’s cool!”
And it’s the only phone I used for 3 years without having the need to upgrade.
@@AbdullaZaki would be extremely happy if you could do a review of the 9210? If need one please let me know :)
Ah... I had the Communicator 9210i.. Great Phone, Nokia was the King of mobiles back then.
Best and most beautiful phone ever made
loved my E90. I used it, I think, for 3-4 years. Fun fact: the matt color later turns into a shiny metallic color
It used to be matte? My mocca E90 is glossy, while I agree that my red one is matte. The black one I have is...well...I think also glossy
I had it and it was awesome. I still miss many Nokia devices of those days
Owned 1 and used it extensively. One of the best devices I ever owned
I'm over here with my fold 3 and I'm like dang this reminds me just like a Samsung fold lol
Nokia is like that company which is "been there done that"!!!
Yessss ,I had this phone back in Saudi Arabia in 2008,I also had the Nokia e61i,both brilliant phones for back in the day,the good old days ,I hope HMD finds inspiration in these and bring back cool but sadly they won't!!! E90 for President !!! Brilliant Video
E61i... maybe I need to find one for the channel now :D Thank you!
@@AbdullaZaki I have the original e61i but sadly doesn't not even turn on,maybe il take it to a repair guy to see what's wrong and then I'll happily send it to you !
Always wanted to get one those days. All desire no money then. So great to finally have a video on this. If ever anyone in Nokia is reading this, please reboot this phone and design. I ll be the first one to buy without even looking at reviews..
I would also absolutely pick a modern version of this! Buying it now felt like fulfilling an old dream :)
Imagine a modern laptop with two displays by Nokia 😍
It would be shit coz they stop innovating lol. That's one of the reasons why they died lol.
@@AbdullaZaki The black one, I think this was the most common version as well, actually I should still have it in one of my boxes of unused tech
The closest I ever got to buying an E90 I had to settle for a E7. Still have it and it works,,well maybe not for calls but it still turns on.
I loved my E51, it had everything in the best size.
Even I had Nokia E51 awesome phone it was
@@rocky8004 truly was amazing.
I followed it up with an e65 and e75. E series where the best.
I loved the leather cover of the Nokia E51 phone it was amazing to see
I was scrolling around and your thumbnail stopped me dead in my swipes.
Still have it in my possession more than 13 years later. Still love it... Its unusable but its a gem I just could not let it go.
I bought an Nokia 8110 a couple of years ago
Best investment ever because this was my dream phone during the 90s but didn't have the money. Went crazy for the phone not for the shape or slide but the screen had options to change icons into shortcuts
Still works but I keep it safe in my cabinet, battery seperately
Nice to see you taking care of it :) Its a beautiful timeless phone
Thanks for this one - good to find you! I am very pleased to say I have had an E90, from new in July 2008, AND it still works!
That's fantastic! Which colour did you go for?
Take care.
Thats heartwarming to hear, thank you so much, means a lot to me :D
I still remember, It was just released and Jumbo had limited stocks but successfully managed to get one for my boss who was desperate to get this. Golden times of Nokia.
Walking around with an E90 in 2007 was a clear sign of status symbol haha. I was always buying my phones from Sharjah which were a bit cheaper but usually came with decent warranty. But this was way out of my budget!
I had 1 in 2007, sold it after 2 years, then I bought 1 last year, I can't sell it, for me it's the most beautiful device of all time
Sometimes i dream nokia choosing android over windows and am their using a frucking unbelievably good reliable robust phone
I remember my dad gifted me this phone. Same colour, I was the happiest kid and chick magnate 😂. Live this video took me back to that day. Thank you.
Every time the welcome tune started to play, a kind of wail arose in my chest. I felt tears in the corners of my eyes. Ah, lost days, lost childhood.love from Bangladesh
One can really appreciate what Nokia did for smartphones! Nicely done! Thank you..😊
Love love love this phone. Remember it affectionately.
I wanted this absolutely beautiful peace of technology when it came out! I was still in school back then! So couldn't buy it! It's refreshing to see it after all these years!
Love from India 🇮🇳
I own one
And it's currently working in a perfect condition
With a huge library of apps installed 😊
You legend
Even i loved this device, this was my boss had this but i was also no able to buy it. Even today i have a special place for NOKIA phones in my heart, thanks for airing this video, i simply loved it.
Ha, I had one of these, it was my first cellphone! Thoroughly enjoyed it!
My dad was dreaming having this phone, but it was Expensive for that time. If they made remastered version, it will be great. For now, seeing Symbian is kinda difficult to use. Maybe will be nice if it use Android optimize for this device
Really been looking forward to this video, thanks! Love your content
Glad you enjoy it! :D
To this day, this remains the most amazing piece of handheld (for the time of release) hardware ever.
It is so cool and iconic that the price for units like this one should go up with time imo.
Back when things were done well. Now all phones look and ARE the same
I had this phone for at least 3 years back in 2008. Loved it but it was really heavy. I was able to play quake 3 on it with Bluetooth mouse and it's keyboard.😁
Never heard about this phone earlier but man it's really incredible and such a good collection material. Thanks for the review.
Ooooh what a nostalgic, I had it once it was launched, what an amazing device ❤
this was my dream phone when I was younger.. it just looked so cool
Coolness factor through the roof haha
I love this phone. I remember seeing its advertisement banner on the local market, realizing I'm never gonna afford that (I was in primary school back then). Now I kinda can, although I'm not entirely sure if I should 😂
The stereo speakers are also very nice for the time 😀. Even in 2022 sounds decent and loud and clear
Thats why we like em thicc :p More room for speakers haha
Can confirm, my E90 speakers are still holding up pretty well even for today's standards. They eclipse my 2020-released Note 10 lite, even though this only has mono, which is a shame for me
whoa... this is a dream phone and pocket pc (at that time...)
Brings back memories 😂 I still love it
This was my first "big" purchase as a teenager! It's the whole reason I now own a Samsung Foldable. Absolutely love the form factor.
I owned it for 3 years but I bought I phone 4G at that time… so the E90 is parked - I loved it so much I can’t sell it even as used phone
Nokia is emotion
I got mine for about £90 on my £20 12 month contract back in the day, an absolute bargain and absolutely loved it. It still remained my backup phone almost to today and only really stopped using it when I got the N900 and wanted to mess about with Linux based stuff. Would still love a full qwerty to this day.
I used to have this phone.. excellent camera and audio microphone... It had Whatsapp and Opera Mini 😛😎
Dude, I had one for the longest time. I still miss it. I love my E 90. I’m actually looking into buying the Astro slide now.
Codec support was superb on Symbian. Made everything else seem outdated. And Nokia spent big on Audio quality so I'm not surprised
Nokia should come out with the communicator series just like how they released other feature phones recently.
❤ Wish that, NOKIA would relaunch their nostalgic devices.
Owned it. Loved it.
you're begining to look more and more like Michael fisher with each video, both the presentation and edit style, good job
Hes a fantastic content creator, so its nice being compared to him . But I still have a long way to go, and I'm trying to create my own style :D
A wet dream back in those! days for me. Couldn't afford it, got served well anyway with Psion 5 MX and Sharp Communicator.
I had the Nokia 9500 communicator when it first came out, i loved it!
Ah The N95. I want it. It's my dream phone.
I loved my E90, it was the only thing you needed.
This one I had to buy locally, and it was pretty expensive for a 15 year old device (around $400). I think you can find it on ebay but I can't verify the quality. Incredible phone. Thanks for watching :)
I had E90 Red colour and it was one of a kind device ❤️
I would love one of these... made thinner and with an Android/touch screen. QWERTY keyboards need a comeback!
Owned it.. Love it and still have it beside my 9300 and the lovely metal E61
