Check Clingan first shot free throw % vs. second shot free throw %. Massive difference. Shows he will consistently shoot well in time. Plus form looks good and pre-game 3s are good looking.
Im not comparing them but go check out tape and some of his stats in Jokics first 3 seasons. While i dont think Clingan will ever be that level of player i think he can be similar and underestimating his offense is crazy. The dude came off the bench as a freshmen and in his sophomore season he spent a lot of his time trying to get healthy and missed a lot of practice time he couldve had. Hes very mobile, has a soft touch and is a high IQ player. He could end up being a 20/10/3 guy in the league who plays All Star weekend regularly. It is crazy to think DC is anywhere near what he will ultimately be as a player.
I have commented elsewhere on Clinton. I know one should not overestimate his abilities, but i remind you who did not grow up watching the man on many GOAT lists as # 1, Bill Russell. he could shoot a midrange jumper; he could make free throws; however, he really did not want to shoot. RECALL THAT THIS IS THE GUY THAT TERRENCE SHANNON CHALLENGED AND CHALLENGED and could not get a sot over! This is the guy who is the sole reason Illinois when 30 minutes of the 2nd half not scoring on! His defensive instincts and talent will challenge all NbA players. He is a shut-down defender who can take parts of the other team’s game away. NO ONE HAD STOPPED CLARENCE’s leaping dunks or shots unless he just did not get to his full vertical. NO OTHER PLAYER IN THE NCAA changed the games of all opponents the way Clinton did! He alone enabled the smothering defense of all the. Other 4 defensive players of U Conn! One of my best friends, a teammate in Japan, played with Phil Jackson in college. Phil told him that Bill Russell was the most amazing athlete in basketball history. He was able to disrupt the flow of the game of any team, take away the offense the other team ran, and, yes, score if he had too. He would rather facilitate. Of all the guys I grew up watching in the 1960s onward, Russell, Oscar (the Big 0), Jerry West, Wilt, and Elgin Baylor (perhaps among some others I am not thinking of) could play in today’s NBA. I think Russell would still find a way to take away the other team’s offense; he was that smart and athletic. Yes, Clingon is without offense now. What is his ceiling? I don’t know. But I do thnk he was worth the pick!
I don't think this is the biggest steal of the draft, it's one of them yes, but I think the Lakers getting Dalton Knecht is the BIGGEST steal of the draft
I can see that, especially considering how much LAL needs shooting & Knecht provides it. I don't think there was a better fit for DK in the league. He'll get a ton of wide open shots and with LeBron orchestrating & teaching him he should have an amazing rookie season. Clingan can have a great season too though so I guess we'll see. Being a Blazer fan I hope DC kills everything moving. Lol
Knecht is a bucket, but the lack of lateral mobility on defense and low steal and assist numbers is concerning. He needs to find a way to be less one-dimensional.

Hmm.... nice observation. This gives me hope.

Is Jeff Goodman ever right about anything? If he can get paid to "analyze" anyone can.
Imo Clingan can be a 30 min a game starter. What he can’t do is finish the last 6 minutes. Rudy Gobert is a fair comp to me.
