Great Video! The production was such an entertaining shitshow I became almost disappointed once you got to the movie itself. I envy the timelines that got that while we were saddled with *this* lamentable disgrace. Hmm. Think it could be rebooted in its original, intended form? Modern effects, different title? Non-punny name for the male lead, fully anthropoid dinos, but with recognizable heads for their species, probably a selection of theros and hadros. I think that could work. Mmmnot "half-human half-cyborg". Being a cyborg is literally defined as being a human with mechanical prostheses or apparatus, so Coltrain was just a cyborg. It's so shitty it's kinda funny. I watched it several times and had actually fun. Plus, the dinos reminded me of Jim Henson's 'The Dinosaurs'. And the story is soo crappy. 😂
“Half-human, half-cyborg” is nonsense. A cyborg is a human with parts replaced by or augmented with robotic/electromechanical/computerized ones. In a very loose and mild sense I can be considered a cyborg because I wear hearing aids, have dental implants, and have a glucose sensor stuck to me that protrudes into my skin to sample my interstitial fluid…
Just saying, Whoopi looks great in this film though, so pretty. As an artist I just love how even and symmetrical her features are, her lovely skin tone and expressive eyes.
Maybe if they had stuck to a White male cop character like in the original concept art, this shit storm would not have happened. Should've some white guy to play the character Whoopi was playing.
I think this was doomed from the start thanks to the director not knowing when was time to stop and focus, changing the script all the time is a lot of waste resources that they already didn't had and exhausting the crew to the point you can't even make a mediocre product.

It’s like they wanted to make a dark, gritty movie about people coexisting with dinosaurs but they opted to making it as kid friendly as humanly possible, warping it into a confused visual mess.
There’s also a pretty cool 1960s show where a young Tarzan-like character is raised by dinosaurs. Yup. It’s Monster Prince, a weird masterpiece which has had a dvd release a couple of years ago.
Honestly, I'm fascinated by this movie. It is CLEAR that the creators cared a great deal about this film, given all the incredibly intricate world building! There is one other thing I can think of that combines cyberpunk and dinosaurs, and that's the short lived animated show Project GEEKR.
I also loved this movie as a kid… but completely forgot about it until now… almost 30 years later. It looks like I *don’t* need to revisit this one with my son! 😬 Thanks for the always fun deep dive into dinosaur media, Diego! And thank you for sitting through (multiple times!!) this train wreck of a movie for us!

It’s surprising to learn today that Theodore Rex was voiced by Sephiroth himself. I’d be curious if George Newbern has any words on being a part of this mess of a film.
I had alwaya thought that Whoopi Goldberg looked very uncomfortable interacting with all these animatronics and it looked like those film makers was trying to mockingly mess with her mind with the huge dinosaur puppets
The guys on Double Toasted did a “Bad Movie Review” of this film and Corey said “They’re just messing with her at this point! They’re doing weird shit just to see what Whoopi will do.” 🤣👍🏼😁

I don't know who thought of it first, but it seems like a helluva coincidence that these two movies came out around the same time and spoofed the same concept.
Dino Diego, have you considered doing a review of David Bischoff’s 1980s Dragonstar sci-fi novels? I’ve seen them describe as “Jurassic Park in Space”. And for the Fringe Theories Iceberg, have you heard the theory about Maya civilization interacting with surviving Mammoths/Mastodons? The theory stems from a carving known as Stela B at the Maya site of Copan depicting what appear to be elephants.

This mess sounds eerily similar to that of the '93 Super Mario Bros movie. At the very least your thumbnail looks much better (and cuter) than the actual animatronic from the movie.
There's this thing with 80's dinosaur movies where they look like they have been cursed. I guess riding on Jurassic Park's success unleashes a Pandora Box of evils upon your movie production.

I only knew a bit about the making of this film before, so this was really interesting to hear about. Kind of gives me a bit of respect for the people who made it, just because they all sound so Human and fallible in these stories. Can't say I've ever heard of this film, but it did make me remember a movie from my childhood that I only saw once - Adventures in Dinosaur City (1991).
wow if i had a nickel for every cop movie initially intended for an older audience that got dumbed down to a kids flick and had constant nonsensical changes pushed on it by the studio and actors I'd have like four nickels. I know its not a lot but still wth?
That's what I'm thinking. Probably just slapped the Theodore Rex and Whoopi Goldberg name on there in the hopes that it could sell better. That or maybe they were given bad info when they received the items to list them for sale. That's probably a more plausible reason.
At least with the live action Mario film, while it was a troubled productions on many drafts, nightmares on sets, actors who were not happy and becoming a movie that's very loosely based in the games. It did at least gain a cult following on it for a movie by itself apart from the Super Mario Brothers Namesake. ua-cam.com/video/HKBw7Wt1YO0/v-deo.html Plus was wondering why the dinos resembles Jim Henson's Dinosaurs since had Bruce Lanoi as one of the puppeteers to work on it. Not to mention William Stout also did some early dino designs that would end up becoming Henson's Dinosaurs. Oh and funny how I see 2 connections with Disney's Dinosaur with Walter Martishius and William Stout involved.
In an Avengers Group of Dinosaur Movie Characters: Whoopi Goldberg would be Nick Fury and Theodore Rex would be Phil Coulson respectively (the serious leader and their assistant) Velocipastor would be the Hulk (guy who can turn into a powerful beast), Larry the Carnotaurus would be Hawkeye (lacks powers but is determined). I’m not sure about the rest, if anyone has suggestions just let me know.
With all that said, I think the reason the film didn't do well was either the concept of the film was ahead of its time, or that it needed the right director, and probably both.
The badness of Theodore Rex is overblown. It’s comparable to the Super Mario Bros. Movie, but not worse. I think Adventures in Dinosaur City is a far worse film.
Stefanno's parent had cut him off because of his "lyfestyle choices". Yeah, probably doing a lot of coke Wasting 33$ million on this movie must have not surprised his parents at all

I only knew a bit about the making of this film before, so this was really interesting to hear about. Kind of gives me a bit of respect for the people who made it, just because they all sound so Human and fallible in these stories. Sometimes, you'll give something your all, and it'll still turn out like... this film.
You know... a dark gritty remake of this movie could work today if it was done right.
The internet would slam the shit out of it upon first revelations, knowing how overreactive a lot of people are about anything (not helped by how exaggerating article headlines tend to be)
@@yuyaricachimuel555 True... people bitch and complain about "there's nothing ever original these days" but then they snuff out anything that's new and unique
@@chancegivens9390 legit!!!
Kung Fury is as close as you get.
An action film?
Can't say I've ever heard of this film, but it did make me remember a movie from my childhood that I only saw once - Adventures in Dinosaur City (1991).
wow if i had a nickel for every cop movie initially intended for an older audience that got dumbed down to a kids flick and had constant nonsensical changes pushed on it by the studio and actors I'd have like four nickels.
I know its not a lot but still wth?
That concept art on TheHollywoodShow ebay doesn't look like something from Theodeore Rex. They could possibly be from a completely different movie.

Plus was wondering why the dinos resembles Jim Henson's Dinosaurs since had Bruce Lanoi as one of the puppeteers to work on it. Not to mention William Stout also did some early dino designs that would end up becoming Henson's Dinosaurs.
Oh and funny how I see 2 connections with Disney's Dinosaur with Walter Martishius and William Stout involved.
In an Avengers Group of Dinosaur Movie Characters:
Whoopi Goldberg would be Nick Fury and Theodore Rex would be Phil Coulson respectively (the serious leader and their assistant)
Velocipastor would be the Hulk (guy who can turn into a powerful beast), Larry the Carnotaurus would be Hawkeye (lacks powers but is determined).
I’m not sure about the rest, if anyone has suggestions just let me know.
With all that said, I think the reason the film didn't do well was either the concept of the film was ahead of its time, or that it needed the right director, and probably both.
But hey! ...The T. rex has lips.😅
Damn, I've never liked Whoopi, she seems like a real See you next Tuesday 😂 I have the best instincts on people, I can always tell who sucks.
The badness of Theodore Rex is overblown. It’s comparable to the Super Mario Bros. Movie, but not worse. I think Adventures in Dinosaur City is a far worse film.
Stefanno's parent had cut him off because of his "lyfestyle choices". Yeah, probably doing a lot of coke
Wasting 33$ million on this movie must have not surprised his parents at all
I've seen this so called "Masterpiece"on nostalga critic
Considering all the stuff that Whoopi Goldberg has said throughout the years, this is the legacy that she deserves lmfao.
What is this about?
@@ExtremeMadnessX she said some problematic stuff
@@ExtremeMadnessX A nasty, mean, hypocritical CRETIN, back then and even worse now. If I ever wound up on "The View", I'd push a custom action figure of Theodore over to her.
So when can we expect Theodore Rex 2?
I don't know, but I hope they can get the original cast back together! It wouldn't be Theodore Rex without them
The alien family from "Mac and Me" could cameo in it.
The same time we will get a GOOD new Star Wars and a ton of OTHER franchises that have been excreted upon... When AI gets SO good, you can just go, "Make me a sequel to XXX, with the actors XXX, and a plot that goes sort of XXX". It's coming... it's all so very, very close now. Within 10 years, EASY.
Bro,You explained so good about the movie reviewer and actor
Almost better than Tom Turkey
I would love to see a grimdark remake of this inspired by the original script.
Blade runner with dinosaurs might be pretty cool if you steal a little from the plot from Parasite eve.
I hope someone has sent this to Jay Baumen of the laughing hyenas from Wisconsin.
Think of Theodore Rex as groundbreaking and ahead of it's time, Them dinos got lips.
p.s. Cannes is pronounced the same as Kirk's nemesis . . . Khan
How dare you mar the reputation of the cinematic masterpiece that is Theodore Rex. I actually worked on the production staff of this film and I can say it was a shit show from day one, I had nightmares about dinosaurs and reshoots for years afterwards.
lol 😂😆
But i actually liked the movie as a kid.
You should've gone with CGI instead of animatronics on this movie.
Listening too all this makes me think Zootopia, but with a dollar store DVD budget
No joke I really liked this one as a kid, like rented more than once lol
i cant wait till your 6 hour review on Tammy and the T rex
This is a good companion piece to Red Letter Media's review.
Theodore Rex was cool to me and whoopi Goldberg was iconic in her moment
