the skip @11:42 is bc the Yachty clip I had in was too long and it got copyright claimed. In that section I mentioned Yachty being someone who I personally haven’t kept up with, so was eager to see what he was up to musically, but the interview didn’t touch on that much.
Chicken shop date is a perfect example of charmingly blunt. It’s more like she’s treating the celebrity like any random person and delivers in a deadpan way Bobbi is just rude. It seems like she misunderstood the whole dynamic and is getting pod guests from her family connections
I like Amelia's style of interviews. The editing and her delivery make it so perfect. It has a British charm to it. I can relate to the situation presented because I do find myself awkward at times. Sometimes her guest carry the interview and turned it into something less awkward (Keke Palmer for example and my favorite Chicken Shop Date episode).
Agreed! Amelia is charming in her own awkward/blunt way, & she isn't actually rude to her guests, the best interviews they actually have this really good chemistry. Love her! Never watched Bobbi except the clips, but she doesn't seem like she has chemistry with her guests at all
The fact that I didn't put that together until just now is truly shameful 😬😂 And I'm sure getting to do the interview while laying in a bed together was just the icing on the cake 🥴
Amelia and Ziwe are professionals. It’s almost insulting that Bobbi is being compared to them, but the distinction absolutely needed to be made lmao. Anyone and everyone can have a platform today, but they’re not all of equal weight and quality. It’s not bad to say so.
This gives me increased appreciation for Sean Evans on Hot Ones because while the show puts guests in what is inevitably an uncomfortable and potentially awkward position where they’re literally suffering, as the interviewer he always is kind and insanely prepared for the vast array of guests he has on. We get entertainment but also really informative answers and behavior out of the guests every time!
Yeah but Chicken Shop concept is closer to what Bobbi trying to do than what Hot ones do Hot ones actually a "professional" interview just with hot sauce on chicken, he asks actual questions about artist Chicken Shop date is more like a gimmick show, she treats them like a regular person on date with her lol
Sean is absolutely amazing! I remember in an interview, he said he studies the guest for a week or so, and just fully immerses himself into it. He really dives deep! No wonder his questions are always so intimate and respectful because he fully appreciates the artists as a full person with different hobbies and interests
You really highlighted why Ziwe’s show is so endlessly enjoyable for me but this Bobbi person is just miserable to watch. Ziwe makes her interviews uncomfortable in a way that brings out interesting responses, and there’s a warmth to her personality even when she’s baiting her guests. Bobbi just acts like a petulant child and never gets anywhere. Yes, you could argue “that’s the bit” but even Between Two Ferns had witty exchanges sometimes (like the one you showed from my favorite war criminal).
Ziwe traps her guest with creative questions that will surely turn into a funny moment. It's sad they canceled her show. Also her pink aesthetic is so iconic!
Bobbi doesn’t even give “rude” she gives “I’m out of my comfort zone for absolutely no valid reasons and because I’m uncomfortable I’m going to make everyone else uncomfortable too”
@@mnunezhk I know, that’s why the schtick is extremely corny. Because if she’s so uncomfortable and better than her surroundings, why did she decide to be there? Idk. It’s just not my style of comedy I guess.
Right. The difference between Zive and Amelia vs Bobbi is that you can throw anything at the former two, while Bobbi doesn't know what to do with the material the guests are giving her. A lot of the time the guests don't know what to do either, but that's not their responsibility. They're musicians, not comedians. Offset is the only one I've seen who was able to do something with the interaction, but Bobbi, the interviewer, was unable to pick that up and carry it. Acting rude is only funny when you're able to make comedy out of it. Ziwe can do it, Amelia can do it, Bobbi is completely out of her depth.
I think a (admittedly small) part of why Ziwe works and Bobbi doesn't is Ziwe has a schtick. Bobbi is literally just rude and disinterested in general. Ziwes thing is she's ALWAYS trying to get her guest cancelled. She's very engaged in the questions she's asking, and she doesn't just outright insult people. There's a cleverness that she and Amanda have that Bobbi lacks. That being said, I'm also not an Amanda fan. I can recognize she's good, but personally she doesn't work for me.
This is a huge part of it. But the “being rude” thing is part of the schtick but it’s not used for any higher purpose so to me it hurts the interviews more than it helps
How is Ziwe trying to get her guest cancelled?? 💀💀💀 She just plays with absurdity and stereotypes, she makes right that the guest by the end of the interview is redeemed
@@azabachezapata6816 it's a joke bestie. Like she's not actually trying to cancel them, but she "tries" to get them cancelled by asking questions with no right answer, and twists their answers against them.
Mariah Carey’s Genius Interview is one of the best ones I’ve ever seen. The interviewer came in knowing Mariah’s work and he asked her questions about her songwriting skills, how she got started, who she was influenced by, etc. which I find much more interesting than someone asking Mariah if she knows who JLO is for the millionth time 😂
Yesss and I’m sure it’s refreshing for them to to be asked deep questions about their work, like not the same surface level stuff or about drama that’s nothing to do w their music
That's why the interview show Hot Ones is so popular, they do a ton of research on their guests and are known for asking great questions, on top of the entertainment factor of watching celebs eat increasingly hot wings.
Oh my gosh!!! I LOVE YOU ALREADY! I am 16 years old and I really want to be a journalist❤️ If you don't mind me asking, do you thing getting a degree is useful? I've heard many people say it's “useless”. I would love to hear from you!🎀🥹
amelia is the best at this style of interview and shes been doing it for 6+ years now ,bobbi came from nowhere and gained success from nowhere which makes me suspicious
@@chaeryeong991 agreed but in terms of interviewing musicians and actually exploring the hip hop space, i'd say amelia takes the cake. ziwe is phenomenal but her interviewing style is a little more broad (including politicians, media personalities etc)
“Does her father own Drake’s masters? I’m trying to figure out how this industry plant is interviewing Drake when respected Black Journalists can’t even get a nod from him.” 😂😂😂 I found this not only funny but sadly true, which is why when these same artist cry out to their communities for support, I just look the other way same as they did.
I'm SO glad someone put why her content is bad into words. I felt like she was getting so much love for not just doing the bare minimum and literally not being funny, but actively being rude af. Also, her whole 'thing' just screams racist like...she's always interviewing rappers and then plays up their "contrast" w the whole, ' I'm a little white girl who couldn't possibly know their music' etc etc. but it feels...like punching down almost? like her "shtick" plays off of the social/racial differences between them as its meant to add to the uncomfortableness of it. it's really awkward to watch, and not in the way she's aiming for.
@@lukeshioshio no literally...like its 2023, even if she doesn't understand why her content is harmful (which is ridiculous in itself), how tf does she not have the capacity to think ahead like "hmmm if I consistently post videos of me belittling black men, maybe it wont make me look so good." smh, just absolute fucking brain rot from this girl. Sucks to watch her get praise and $ when it could go to someone who really deserves it & wont profit from using racism as a trope.
@@thedelfinayou’re ignorant. Plenty of white people are Hispanic and have the name Jose. Ironic you’re trying to call out someone else on their ignorance
Bobbie literally is ripping off ziwe and Amelia that chicken shop girl gig and I find it really weird she only interviews rappers almost like she’s making a mockery of the black community trying to look uncomfortable and stuff also the dumb act can only get you so far if u not doing the dumb act well
Yea she refused to be corrected on how to pronounce a latin name, really all you need to know. Even if its a joke. Thinking this is funny is bad enough. Ok Colonizer.
@@m00nrac00nI’m mexican and that comment pissed me so damn much, it gave off plain x*nophobia. If she’s comfortable enough to do that publicly I can’t even imagine how awful she actually is irl.
@@gruelingpizza6698 Her refusing to be corrected on how to pronounce a latin name, cutting off black people with strong assertiveness, shutting down PoCs accomplishments as trash or nothing special, thinking a black man pronounces words weirdly, alluding to thinking the jewelery is fake or could be higher value, stating she does not believe she is not a black mans type...and so on. She behaves like a typical Colonizer. Policing the behavior of black people or PoC in general.
When people like Ziwe exist and their shows get cancelled it’s very hard and aggravating to watch someone be as bland, boring, and with nothing to say like Bobbi. The “bit” is barely a bit to begin with. She’s not pushing any conversations on real topics forward, and the entertainment aspect is brought on solely by the guest if they even choose to actually play the game with her.
I tried to watch Bobbi, but she’s boring to me. Her body language to me seems like she doesn’t want to be there, like she’s bored. Also, watching her interviews is like watching paint dry.
She's trying to do Ziwe or Between Two Ferns, but she's the most boring, robotic person ever with no jokes, it comes off like she's just rude and extremely out of place.
i think bobbi relies so much on her guests to carry out the interviews. i mean her guests are big stars so people will already be invested. however, if the interviewer isn't given anything its hard to watch without cringing at it. ziwe and amelia give off this awkward and "bland" aura but their videos are still funny and interesting. they still make it a good time for their guests and viewers. idk, i feel like bobbi is not giving us anything and she doesn't know how to drive her interviews. like idk if the purpose of these intereviews is to give off that rude energy but it's just weird.
@@azabachezapata6816she is not bland at all!! lol I meant that she is trying to give off this aura that is deadpan and awkward in her videos hence why I put it quotations marks lol
@@BeautyBySmilebland was probably a poor word choice but I meant to say they give off that awkward energy that you stated but their videos are actually funny
Every time an interview clip was played in this video I had to just start fast forwarding through them because I got too much second hand embarrassment to be able to stomach lol
I do interviews with kpop idols sometimes and my whole concept I guess is that i make it awkward, on purpose. Because theyre so used to doing serious interviews, I myself just find that boring- and so creating this sort of awkward atmosphere can create good moments for comedy and just in general make them feel more comfortable in the end cos they know im so unserious. But as the host/interviewer I cant JUST leave it at being awkward. I have to still push the interview forward and allow them to be able to respond in a meaningful way, not just have them be like 🫥❓. Which this girl clearly does lol
Exactly! And I’m sure idols especially are thankful that you’re able to switch things up in your interviews. And I agree you definitely get a better interview when you’ve established that you’re a person the first can open up around comfortably
Ziwe is a total master class in this type comedic/satire style interview She’s so smart& quick witted And because there was a political slant to her comedy, it definitely gave her that edge over these other girls out here. Anyway, I do hope Ziwe comes back in some capacity. She is just too good to not be given a platform to do her thing ☕️
At this point, like many white women of her ilk, she understands that her guests roasting her will go viral. She knows that the clips that will gain traction are the ones where she's getting dunked on which gives her a reason to keep doing it. When you're someone people "love to hate" that actually does translate to money/more opportunities.
This is a GOOD idea. Like instead of Nicki Minaj doing press runs, invite your barbs that have degrees in journalism to Queen Radio for them to interview her or go to their platform
Black fans need stop being ratchet and trying to set up black artists then maybe they think about it but y’all love Charlemagne and Wendy williams who are chatty patty.
@@KingWiltshireXIII 🤨 there are so many black podcasters and interviewers that’s are non of what you said….. it’s sounds like you watch the same two people 🙃
i’m white so i never knew if i was just over analyzing the way she treated, particularly rappers, but it always came off way less as a joke; and more her trying to like one-up them with everything they would say. on top of her acting overly confused with slang, and being so concerned about the way people would even say words- it all feels so patronizing ?? like she’s just trying to embarrass them so she can get a clip to post, and then says THEY made her uncomfortable …
Bobbi going on barstool and complaining about her guests after bullying them the entire “interview” is such a terrible look. Amelia is flirty and Ziwe is so camp but Bobbi is just a bully.
I feel like it’s one thing to have that blasé nonchalant interview style while still making it fun and engaging to watch, like Amelia does the same bit but at least she’s funny and has an accent this girls interview style is literally just, act like she doesn’t know who she’s interviewing while giving the most bland personality and banter while the person is carrying HER interview, the fact she was able to have a come up this fast while being the LEAST interesting interviewer doing this style is nuts
Exactly, huge difference between the two girls. One of them has no charisma, mean spirited, not witty or funny, doesn't poke fun at herself. It feels like a huge fail. She must be a nepotism situation.
Amelia is British and they banter a lot! They are known for their dry blunt humor. So her initial guest get it and are not offended, plus she’s actually talented and funny.
I love Zach Sang interviews. He's pretty much the opposite of a rude interviewer. He almost butters up the interviewee too much sometimes. But he does his homework and usually goes in deep. Then at the end he has his co-host Dan ask the controversial/juicy questions to round everything out.
He is a great. Could do without his cohost he is a bit sus sometimes. But yea, he is so soft and welcoming..he even managed to create pleasent chill interviews with people like Trisha Paytas.
Ziwe is actually a genius. The moment i found out about her show i spent the whole day watching clips from it. Her cultural knowledge of the internet a space is spot on
i feel like amelia and ziwe actually had respect and cared about their guests, which keeps you engaged even if they’re acting like they don’t care/acting awkward
The thing is tho Amelia & Ziwe gives off the vibe the guest is in on the joke meanwhile Bobbi’s interviews make me feel like she wants the guest to genuinely feel uncomfortable…
Yeah I totally agree. For Amelia, the guests even had said their prepped on how she’s playing a character so they’re definitely in on it. Ed Sheeran even poked fun about it during his episode on how she’s actually a very warm and charismatic person. Id imagine Ziwe is the same way too because she’s even more professional given that she was on an actual network and not just on a UA-cam channel like Chickenshop. Bobbi though… it just feels so uncomfortable. She gives off actual mean girl energy.
also outright saying "i don't care" to a guest trying to correct her pronunciation of his name is unbelievably rancid. like it transparently shows that she actually doesn't give a f about her guests as people. she might as well be talking to a brick wall for the questions she asks.
I know people consistently say Bobbi and Funny Marco have a “similar” style. But I truly think the difference is their certain tone. Bobbi sounds sometimes serious and you can tell Marco is genuinely sarcastic. So his guests are aware and of course already are aware of his style so his comes off more genuine.
It's not just tones tho. Marco comes off as ignorant and inappropriate which let's him get away with how he talks to people. It's almost as if "he doesn't know any better" with what he's asking which is further validated by his crew backing up. It's top tier gaslighting. Bobbi is just boring, awkward, and uninventive
Her Offset interview is hilarious. I don't understand how Bobbi doesn't look up who's she's interviewing. Its comes off from disrespectful. Offset had set it off. Just roasted her. A new meme was born that day. Bobbi was so condensing and Offset wasn't haven't it. In his own words from the interview, "You see how that it works."
What bothers me about Bobbi is that she clearly does not have the proper training to pull these types of interviews off. People like Amelia and Ziwe have taken the time to perfect their craft and it’s clear they love doing what they’re doing. Not saying that Bobbi isn’t passionate it just seems like she’s doing it because it seemed easy.
I’m so upset that Ziwe show got cancelled on showtime it’s mainly bc showtime is going through a major programming change due to their recent merging to paramount+, that was my show. Her interviews with charlamagne and Chet hanks are legendary bc she asked the questions I would ask them as well. As for Bobbi, I legit don’t know tbh she seems like a cool girl outside of her podcast but with her deadpan comedy just fall flat to me it goes to show deadpan/cringe comedy is just as difficult as slapstick comedy
Honestly I can’t stand the rude/ awkward interviews the secondhand embarrassment that I get from them is unbearable. However I will say, ziwe’s interview style is clever and deeply satirical which is quite enjoyable and something the other girlies lack
12:56 i really hate her vibe here cuz her “character” is stand offish, uninterested, and seemingly uncomfortable when she’s in the presence of her interviewees (who are mostly black men, as of recently). but the second she’s on a podcast with other blonde, white women… she’s loud, personable, speaking her “truth”, and telling us how she feels uncomfortable during her interviews. i fr hate this character and how this girl keeps getting pushed online when no one wants it
I'm not a fan of Bobby. But i love Amelia and Ziwe. They are in my opinion doing it in a fun way but also know their Craft in what they want out of the Interview without being just there. Plus imo they play really well off of the Person they "Interview"
i study journalism in college, seeing bobbi get the opportunity to interview such influential people really irritates me in an unselfish and selfish way lol, im not saying she doesnt do her research, but then again her work/prep is never at the forefront.
first off i’d like to say this was a great video naomi! now to include some of my own opinions/ideas 1. there’s something very organic about how amelia delivers her comedic style. some people may argue it’s because she’s been doing it much longer than bobbi, but i think she’s always been pretty consistent even in the earlier years. not only that, there’s the constant themes of amelia failing to get into a relationship, going on these dates for that reason, and taking her guests to eat chicken nuggets-her favorite food. yes she has that deadpan, “awkward” interview style, but she allows herself to have fun with it-sometimes breaking character, which works bc she doesn’t come off as being uncomfortably rude to her guests. like you said naomi, something as simple as amelia doing her research on the person she’s interviewing (or “dating”) and showing some degree of interest in them makes all the difference. 2. similarly with amelia, ziwe’s show has an actual theme and doesn’t JUST ride on the coattails of her playing a repetitive character that quickly gets uninteresting to watch (which is where i personally think bobbi falls short). there’s a way to challenge your guests and make them uncomfortable while also keeping the audience wanting more and if anyone has succeeded at it, it’s been ziwe. they need to bring her show back asap 😭 3. lastly, I think the style bobbi chose to implement for her podcast would never work with any other type of celebrities/public figures if you’re picking up what i’m putting down. someone else in the comments mentioned how they could never see bobbi acting this way towards taylor swift and i honestly agree. one thing that makes ziwe and amelia’s respective shows great is how diverse the guests are and how they don’t necessarily have to change their style up much to suit said guests. anywho i said a whole lot so imma just end it here lol 😅
Yep Amelia & Ziwe do this WAY better than Bobbi she seems like she’s trying too hard. I also don’t like the “I’m a sweet innocent white girl, I don’t get your thuggish slang!” Bs she does.
She is DANGEROUS especially the way described lil Yachty on the barstool podcast. Shes playing off of "oh he was mean to my poor tiny innocent self" role. It really makes my skin crawl and she only did that because of the optics. Like, just look at the STARK difference between the way she is on the barstool podcast compared to HER OWN. She lively af on barstool and switches it up to mink on hers. You can mainly see it come out and further with her BIPOC guests. She doesn't push her aloofness that far with her non BIPOC guest.
This is mostly why I hate the “it’s just a character” thing bc people use it to act confused when people criticize how they treat others. Whether it’s a bit or not it’s still “you”. There’s a way to do a character or bit and not come off as just disrespectful
Yes she purposefully dows this to the black artist she interviews and does the infantilization and “ww tears” thing. It pains me because hosting and interviewing is a hard skill and poeple hustle for years and get degrees for it. At least Amelia has gotten better at her craft and takes it seriously and is not rude unlike Bobbi. Unfortunately white privilege/mediocrity doing it’s thing again
@@joseribamarjr5164stg me reading the comments nobody mentioning anything about it. I was like am I tripping or could she approach this differently, I see the type of interviewing styles she does but it seems she pushes the agenda a little too far for my liking. It’s very passive aggressive, and she almost acts like the way she approaches things as if she’s completely ignorant. Which is honestly annoying to watch.
Yes is very dangerous!!! These rappers need to beware playing into this. I understand its good exposure but my "spider sense" is tell me. DO NOT TRUST HER
She wants to be the celebrity. She wants to be the reason you watch, not the artist. Notice how giddy she gets when she’s the one being interviewed. Maybe I’m thinking too deep, or maybe I’m right. Who knows.
Wow, this is my first exposure to Bobbi. She doesn’t even come across as a bad version of Ziwe, Amelia, Between Two Ferns, or even Eric Andre. In fact, I think her interviews seem so bad that I genuinely can’t understand what the point of them is at all?! A quality I think people enjoy about Chicken Shop Date is that Amelia presents herself in a very British, self-deprecating way. The joke is “on her” as it’s kind of kind of implied that none of the guests would date her in real life. So, her character is endearingly delusional in her attitude. I also know that Amelia must be very passionate because she started the show independently on a small scale and put lots of effort in to securing guests. I also love that Ziwe will sometimes theme her outfits to reflect her guest. I don’t even wanna think about her show being cancelled, I’m so sad! Talking of themed outfits, any drag race fans should check out Maddy Morphisis’ podcast. She has combined a bit of that awkwardness and guest-themed outfits with the deep research of someone like Nardwuar. And to bring it full circle comparing Bobbi to Nardwuar really emphasises why her specific style doesn’t make for interesting conversations.
Like I can feel the personality from Ziwe and Amelia especially outside of their main shows. Bobbi however?! I don’t enjoy her very dry I don’t care for it especially acting like she’s better than the people who she interviews, especially because they’re BIPOC.
Im gonna say something a little controversial here; I think she does these types of interviews because shes a blonde white woman and wants to protray herself as such. Thats why she interviews ethnic rappers, its a way for her to keep her brand "innocent and fun" instead of explotive and rude.
I love the satire, awkward humor, random quirkiness of chicken shop date. She’s not only very awkward but it’s a cute sweet awkward that makes you want to open up. I also like funny Marcos style because it takes so much tog wit him out of character & I just love random questions Lmao bobbi on the other hand is just a bit too performative and I’m not too interested in the guest she usually has either so that doesn’t help 😢
Ironically, "awkward" interviews only work when the interviewer has extensive knowledge of the person they're interviewing, hence why Ziwe's are mostly highly praised while Bobbi not so much
I need Ziwe's show to come back and this time somewhere other than Showtime. The problem with her show was that - it begs for a huge audience that Showtime can't provide. I fully believe Ziwe would have been as big as Amelia had her show been on, say, Netflix or UA-cam.
I think the best interviewer in the game is Hot Ones' Sean Evans. He asks questions that the guests are genuinely excited to answer and find out things about them they didn't even know that an interviewer would know. And he does it all while "lightening" the atmosphere by challenging them to eat increasingly hotter hot wings. I also really loved Ziwe and I'm sad her show got canceled, but would love to see her show up on Netflix or somewhere else.
For the drag race girlies, I think Maddy Morphosis is one of the best interviewers on the internet. She is very dry and deadpan, but she knows her guests so well, to the point that she is asking them things that they forgot about. We are able to learn so much more about the guests, but it’s all done in Maddy’s voice.
We really need Wendy Williams back, her style of interviewing was abit brash but still knowledgeable and iconic. My favorite one from her was w/ Mariah Carey it was just a battle of wit vs wit
I can't believe she sat there and complained about someone not being welcoming and kind to her when her entire career is built on being cold and rude.... girl... one thing about ⚪👩🏼....
Ziwe, chicken shop girl, and between two ferns do this awk/borderline offensive/uncomfy bit SO WELL. It flows, its good. It brings our a side of the celebrity that makes them so much more likable. Bobbi though, she hasn't balanced the interview with the awk so it's weird.
When I saw her first couple interviews, my main gripe was how she didn’t know who she was or what she was trying to get out of these “interviews.” Eric Andre is able to make people uncomfortable and is also unserious, but his interviews are a test of the true colors of that person in how they’d react - if they’d eventually understand that it’s a joke and play along or not. Nardwaur is corny and fun, but never insults anyone and is a genuine fan. I saw someone comment, “I judge celebrities based on how they treat Nardwaur,” his interviews are indirectly also a test of the character of those artists. Bobbi is just… there? She’s quiet at times but other times not? She’s trying to hard to be “awkward” and it doesn’t work, at all. She’s embarrassing herself at her complete incompetence and needs to give it a rest. I don’t understand what the point is to any of her interviews, other than, “tiny white girl interviewing black rapper, lol so random,” which is weird and disrespectful and that goes without saying.
Bobbi's interviews are ACTUALLY hard to watch omg i can't stand it idk how other ppl do Amelia gives me that second hand embarrassment sometimes too but shes never actually rude, she is funny, her guests always love her and have great responses I haven't watched ziwe much but i get the same vibe as amelia
i dont see the appeal in making your favorite artists mad in an artificial way. thank you for highlighting people that deserve these hiphop interviews. the environment would be much for podcast friendly
Bobbi Althoff gives off complete Euphoria/Sam Levinson energy, and my whole body is actually hurting from the stiffness that I'm now receiving from that fact.
Someone I think gets left out of the off putting absurdist conversation is Eric Andre. He was good at it but it requires dedication to the extreme that Bobbi doesn’t want to commit to that so many others have. The other interviewers she’s often compared to are offering more than a tacky one-dimensional schtick and they commit to the act bc they’re prepared for what it brings.
I have this rare superpower. When I see or read something I don’t like, I simply turn away. No matter how much something antagonizes me I don’t click on it or engage in comments, nothing that will benefit this individual(s).
I finally watched her interview w/ Offset & I laughed so hard omg🤣 He played along w/ her "humor" & won! watched the Drake interview afterwards & his comebacks were good but you can see him get confused & defensive through out. she won't last long🤷🏾♀
I've never watched a full interview with any of these women, but I had seen clips of all of them before, honestly seeing your announcement helped me learn more about Ziwe. I always see her Katya interview in ytshorts but never knew it was an actual show , she has a lot of great content! The difference between the styles is very interesting, and there's an obvious difference in skill/comedy/charisma and comedic timing between Ziwe/Amelia VS Bobbi. That clip of Bobbi with her white tears also made me nauseated
I love that you mentioned Ziwe! So disappointed that it was cancelled. I also see some elements of The Eric Andre Show, minus the pranks & surreal in real life moments.
I think another reason Bobbi is popular is people actually want to see famous people having mundane and slightly unpleasant interactions, its relatable and kind of brings them down to our level
the skip @11:42 is bc the Yachty clip I had in was too long and it got copyright claimed. In that section I mentioned Yachty being someone who I personally haven’t kept up with, so was eager to see what he was up to musically, but the interview didn’t touch on that much.
Chicken shop date is a perfect example of charmingly blunt. It’s more like she’s treating the celebrity like any random person and delivers in a deadpan way
Bobbi is just rude.
She doesn’t have family connections. It’s her network that has pushed her along.
Agreed! Amelia is charming in her own awkward/blunt way, & she isn't actually rude to her guests, the best interviews they actually have this really good chemistry. Love her! Never watched Bobbi except the clips, but she doesn't seem like she has chemistry with her guests at all
Na that chicken shop shit sucks too. Bunch of weirdos acting like you are the weirdo.
Yes to me Amelia gives awkwardness + that British sense of humor I enjoy it
Not people acting confused that Drake answered a message from a white girl who looks 15
I want you to know I actually did yelp out loud when I read this

🤣🤣🤣🤣
The fact that I didn't put that together until just now is truly shameful 😬😂 And I'm sure getting to do the interview while laying in a bed together was just the icing on the cake 🥴
Amelia and Ziwe are professionals. It’s almost insulting that Bobbi is being compared to them, but the distinction absolutely needed to be made lmao. Anyone and everyone can have a platform today, but they’re not all of equal weight and quality. It’s not bad to say so.
Yes yes yes yes yes!!!
Yeah but Chicken Shop concept is closer to what Bobbi trying to do than what Hot ones do
Hot ones actually a "professional" interview just with hot sauce on chicken, he asks actual questions about artist
Chicken Shop date is more like a gimmick show, she treats them like a regular person on date with her lol
Sean is absolutely amazing! I remember in an interview, he said he studies the guest for a week or so, and just fully immerses himself into it. He really dives deep! No wonder his questions are always so intimate and respectful because he fully appreciates the artists as a full person with different hobbies and interests

Her telling J Balvin to not correct her on how to pronounce his name is wild and maddd disrespectful
Ziwe is the blueprint 🔥
fannita is also really good at being awkward but being funny

@@tianaanika6261 Interesting I’ll check them out!
Ziwe traps her guest with creative questions that will surely turn into a funny moment. It's sad they canceled her show. Also her pink aesthetic is so iconic!
Bobbi doesn’t even give “rude” she gives “I’m out of my comfort zone for absolutely no valid reasons and because I’m uncomfortable I’m going to make everyone else uncomfortable too”
I’m down w this interpretation
YESSS FUCKING THANK YOU. Absolutely nailed my thoughts
well she decided to create the podcast

Yesss and I’m sure it’s refreshing for them to to be asked deep questions about their work, like not the same surface level stuff or about drama that’s nothing to do w their music
When Naomi Campbell interviewed Mariah as well was very good
That's why the interview show Hot Ones is so popular, they do a ton of research on their guests and are known for asking great questions, on top of the entertainment factor of watching celebs eat increasingly hot wings.

I do interviews with kpop idols sometimes and my whole concept I guess is that i make it awkward, on purpose.

Not saying that Bobbi isn’t passionate it just seems like she’s doing it because it seemed easy.

lol i commented this before seeing what you acknowledged, thanks :))))
Amelia asking Jack Harlow “can you read” was insane 😭
first off i’d like to say this was a great video naomi! now to include some of my own opinions/ideas
1. there’s something very organic about how amelia delivers her comedic style. some people may argue it’s because she’s been doing it much longer than bobbi, but i think she’s always been pretty consistent even in the earlier years. not only that, there’s the constant themes of amelia failing to get into a relationship, going on these dates for that reason, and taking her guests to eat chicken nuggets-her favorite food. yes she has that deadpan, “awkward” interview style, but she allows herself to have fun with it-sometimes breaking character, which works bc she doesn’t come off as being uncomfortably rude to her guests. like you said naomi, something as simple as amelia doing her research on the person she’s interviewing (or “dating”) and showing some degree of interest in them makes all the difference.
2. similarly with amelia, ziwe’s show has an actual theme and doesn’t JUST ride on the coattails of her playing a repetitive character that quickly gets uninteresting to watch (which is where i personally think bobbi falls short). there’s a way to challenge your guests and make them uncomfortable while also keeping the audience wanting more and if anyone has succeeded at it, it’s been ziwe. they need to bring her show back asap 😭
3. lastly, I think the style bobbi chose to implement for her podcast would never work with any other type of celebrities/public figures if you’re picking up what i’m putting down. someone else in the comments mentioned how they could never see bobbi acting this way towards taylor swift and i honestly agree. one thing that makes ziwe and amelia’s respective shows great is how diverse the guests are and how they don’t necessarily have to change their style up much to suit said guests.
anywho i said a whole lot so imma just end it here lol 😅
Lmaooo the Taylor swift comment was me 😭
@@naomi.cannibal OH LMAO i forgot it was you sorry 😭 but i 100% agree with you!
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who picked up on that
Yes she purposefully dows this to the black artist she interviews and does the infantilization and “ww tears” thing. It pains me because hosting and interviewing is a hard skill and poeple hustle for years and get degrees for it. At least Amelia has gotten better at her craft and takes it seriously and is not rude unlike Bobbi. Unfortunately white privilege/mediocrity doing it’s thing again

Nardwuar is one of my favourite interviewers! He plays a really intense and awkward character, but he’s extremely thoughtful!
He’s on the spectrum though so that bodes to his social… “character.”
what. Nardwuar is a pos too. He is a very angry little white man. His interview with Cardi B was disgusting.
Ziwe is warm. Amelia is warm. Bobbi?
Like I can feel the personality from Ziwe and Amelia especially outside of their main shows. Bobbi however?! I don’t enjoy her very dry I don’t care for it especially acting like she’s better than the people who she interviews, especially because they’re BIPOC.
Im gonna say something a little controversial here; I think she does these types of interviews because shes a blonde white woman and wants to protray herself as such. Thats why she interviews ethnic rappers, its a way for her to keep her brand "innocent and fun" instead of explotive and rude.
I think ur spot on

Ironically, "awkward" interviews only work when the interviewer has extensive knowledge of the person they're interviewing, hence why Ziwe's are mostly highly praised while Bobbi not so much
Ziwe is hilarious! I wish Drake and all those guys would have interviewed with her.
She should do a video podcast.
I need Ziwe's show to come back and this time somewhere other than Showtime. The problem with her show was that - it begs for a huge audience that Showtime can't provide. I fully believe Ziwe would have been as big as Amelia had her show been on, say, Netflix or UA-cam.
I love Eric Andre ❤ his style of “awkward” interviews is just the best
I think the best interviewer in the game is Hot Ones' Sean Evans. He asks questions that the guests are genuinely excited to answer and find out things about them they didn't even know that an interviewer would know. And he does it all while "lightening" the atmosphere by challenging them to eat increasingly hotter hot wings. I also really loved Ziwe and I'm sad her show got canceled, but would love to see her show up on Netflix or somewhere else.
Lady Gaga's older interviews were so funny and enjoyable. Not that they aren't now but she gathered the interviewers
If being unfunny was illegal Bobbi would be sentenced to the chair.
I love give it to me straight! Best drag interviews fr

I also like how j balvin called her out for being racist. Like she did that with other black artists as well and no one said anything
As far as celebrity interviews go Hot Ones is my favorite. I think Sean does a great job of surprising guests with his questions.
Seeing Bobbi’s interviews makes me really appreciative Julie Adenuga & Zane Lowe as interviewers
It makes me really sad that Bobbi does these awful interviews and Ziwe is insightful and creative, and her show is being canceled.
Bobbi's interviews are ACTUALLY hard to watch omg i can't stand it idk how other ppl do
Amelia gives me that second hand embarrassment sometimes too but shes never actually rude, she is funny, her guests always love her and have great responses
I haven't watched ziwe much but i get the same vibe as amelia
Ziwe is the only one that does it for me, the one with katya was so funny that had me crying
Honestly gotta mention, Eric Andre as one of the most frustrating interviewers of all time.
omg i generally thought she was a teenager or 21 at the oldest. come to find out sis is married with 2 kids damnn
lmao I was shocked I thought she was at most 20/21 but turns out she's like 25 with a whole ass family
@@anonloki3woooow! This makes her whole thing even worse and she’s clearly racist using black rage for clicks
Ziwe is my fav! Extremely underrated and she’s not exactly ‘rude’ with it
Biting Between Two Ferns so gatdamn hard. I love you Naomi, your content is amazing!
i dont see the appeal in making your favorite artists mad in an artificial way. thank you for highlighting people that deserve these hiphop interviews. the environment would be much for podcast friendly
Offset telling her to be more prepared next time..... I would have melted into the ground. It was very much disappointed teacher
We’re also leaving out Zach Galafianakis’ Between Two Ferns
ZIWE THE PINK PRINT 🩷 ERIC ANDRE THE BLUE PRINT 🩵
I think another reason Bobbi is popular is people actually want to see famous people having mundane and slightly unpleasant interactions, its relatable and kind of brings them down to our level
