I played through uni, coached, and worked in management. If it’s your first year in tackle don’t buy equipment whatever your school or league has will do the trick.
trust me yall it wont do it. i got some fat ass pads. Choked everytime i lifted my arms up to catch a ball. And a fat ass bucket, felt concussed after almost every hit. hated it.
@@st_x_rry me and every teammate I ever had “cheaped out on til by taking what they gave us. Wasn’t til 8th grade someone got catchers gear but no one had football pads. We were fine

As a coach i actually prefer Xenith helmets for my players. Priced better than a speedflex. And has a larger size range to get a good fit before having to replace as kids grow. Also the Xenith is lighter in general than Riddell and yearly reconditioning is both cheaper and a shorter turnaround time.
nxtrnd mouthpieces are the best and dont come unstrapped from your helmet. Grip boost gloves are definitely the best and keep their stick for a long time
I just got over with my first year of 8th grade tackle, Got myself a bucket (we don't get to pick helmets other than the coaches kids who get speed flexes) and some Schutt Y-flex pads.
I had my first touchdown a few weeks ago in my 2nd year of football but I don’t know if I will play football again because I played hockey for 7 years.
I only have a pair of Nike Vapor Edge 360 2s because I found them for $25 at Burlington other than that I use what my team provides, especially since I'm not done growing so I don't want to buy something like a speed flex (while it would be really nice) until I'm done growing and it will last
Ya I wore adidas cleats all my life put on nikes one season and tore my acl mcl and meniscus Ik it’s probably not related at all but all but i like to blame it on nike
@@firstdowntrainingThis is my plan for my boy and he will play his first season of flag this year. I don’t see the upside of having a 5 yr old banging heads. IMO no need to really start tackle until middle school football.
Get the absolute best helmet you can-head protection is vital, but for youth football pads and cleats, go used. Kids grow fast, there are always kids getting rid of gear they only used for a season before they got too big.
Dang. Growing up the only thing we had to buy were our own knee/thigh/hip/butt pads and cleats. Rec league issued helmets and shoulder pads. Granted they reeked something serious.
Why isn’t the team that the kid is playing for supplying these equipment and what about mouthpiece? What about a jockstrap a cup for the family jewels?
You never know what you will get with the school pads or team pads. I’ve heard some horror stories about equipment and how bad it is. Some schools are great and if you can’t financially afford pads- school pads are totally fine but I recommend if you can
I am 13 years old and I have a riddell speed flex and the Xenith velocity 2.0 and good choices, btw love your tips for wr really helped me this year so far
schools do, but I recommend the own gear if you can afford. You’d be surprised the horror stories I’ve heard these past few years about gear hand outs. Loose helmets, QBs getting linemen pads etc.

Exactly
this was clearly a joke
Nahhh my first year they gave me a styrofoam bucket. Almost quit I hated it so much.
trust me yall it wont do it. i got some fat ass pads. Choked everytime i lifted my arms up to catch a ball. And a fat ass bucket, felt concussed after almost every hit. hated it.
Yeah mine was safe enough so 🤷♂️
Bro picked the most expensive equipment
I wouldn’t personally cheap out on this stuff tbh
Relatively speaking these were some of the more affordable items in football
@@st_x_rry me and every teammate I ever had “cheaped out on til by taking what they gave us. Wasn’t til 8th grade someone got catchers gear but no one had football pads. We were fine
Yeah football equipment isnt exactly something you should try to budget on tho, its expensive for a reason and its worth not having brain damage

I see you coach! Got them basketball skills
😂this is about the only thing basketball related I can do
@@firstdowntraining same, it’s like football limits my basketball skills cause I keep getting worse

500$ helmet 😭
that’s not bad for a helmet….😂 especially when it’s one of the best rated.
“not outrageously expensive”
@@TaylorP-hx7bw everything in football is expensive
I wouldn’t cheap out on a helmet when there’s as much head impacts as there are in football.
@@spyder027If it is your first year, you are most likely young so people don’t hit as hard. This leads to usually less head impacts.
I use Xenith pads and helmet. Linebacker fit fr

It’s insane u only have two hundred thousand subs u come in so clutch thanks for the 🔥 content ❤

Fortunately our pop Warner league provided real nice equipment. Speed flex is a legit lid. My 11u has it and loves it.

You just described exactly what I have..
I’m a high school punter and I wear a pair of youth small zenith pads my friend got for like 100 bucks and I love them
For a lineman I have a shuit F7 with a school assigned shoulder pads and a Nike Alfa
Yessir appreciate the insight 🤝
I’d also get an arm sleeve if you play on turf, drip and saves your arm from turf burns
Get your kids axioms and ridell varsity pads remember to throw in an Oakley visor
Question what do you prefer when you need a bike cleats that won't twist your ankle when you're running
I need this considering i'm going in to 7th grade football in 3 weeks
.
Yessir hope this could help! Appreciate you watching
For helmet and shoulder pads just use what your school gives you
Good advice, but 99% of the time unless you’re at a rich private school… you’re getting crappy gear.
I have seen more people get a contract with a speed then a shutt bucket the only thing good about them is you can tighten and loosen them easily
Nike vapors always gave me heal problems with how the heel shape is designed at a point so I switched to an adidas electric wich has worked so far
Love the adidas ones too! Appreciate the insight 🤝
I’m playing my first year next year. Do you have any more recommendations
If you search up “first down training 1st year of tackle” on UA-cam we have about 3-4 videos there that can help!
These are for serious football players but IMO I say helmet shutt vengeance shoulder pads shutt midflex pads
Youth pads are actually dropping in August! 2-in-1 confirmed 👍🏽
Fantastic news
when i join the highschool team is most of this covered because money is tight and i don't think i could afford most of the gear
I’ll stick with the bucket helmet for cheaper 😭
riddell makes great shoulder pads too

welcome to the first step of tackle football: Getting gear
Just get a speed they are fine, especially if you are a lineman or backer
No problem man, I would say a regular riddell speed is also fine
I remember when you only had to buy spikes and jock. Im getting old
coach rac if he played football instead:
if ur starting with football should u start with tackle or flag?
I’d say flag to start then tackle as you get a little older. It depends though. If you’re in high school definitely tackle
