Thanks so much for uploading, had booked a mechanic to come out, but saw this video, clear simple instructions , made me feel confident to do it myself . Just finished on my 2012 and all went smoothly……Mechanic cancelled …….. So helpful.
Thank you!!!! This was so helpful. I've worked with cars before but never a mini cooper. I think because I am female and in college the mechanic thought that I would agree to a 3,000+ charge, after a $150 diagnostic, to change the valve cover, gaskets and sparkplugs. It's just not logical and I don't have that type of money laying around. - Opened up the engine and found out that the timing chain had been tearing through the timing chain guide. Which is strange because my car only has about 100,000 miles on it. As I write this I have just finished cleaning the engine and replacing the gaskets by following this video. Now I can focus my time to find the funds and a mechanic to replace more serious issues like a timing chain. Thank you so much. I really appreciate your video.
Kudos to you for not beiing intimidated and ripped off. The price they quoted you for the valve cover gasket is way more expensive that a timing change replacement . The average cost for a timing chain replacement is between $1600 and $1800
Wow! Cudos to you! The original timing chain should be changed around 70,000 before it rips through. I'm confident you could've changed the tensioner before this happened. Let us know if you do the chain yourself!
Thank you for this! I've been working on cars for 40 years. 1958 Morris Minor was my first. Mini's are not as bad as they would make you feel. Plastic.....keeps the engine cleaner. Also, good way doing this to check timing chain guide breaks and slack. Thank you again!
Great video. Not too much to get out of the way on a Cooper to get the valve cover off. Wonder how much more difficult it would be to do an '08 Fit lol
Amazing. Just bought a 2009 Mini Cooper and it has started running rubbish. Was going to change plugs and saw coils covered in oil and pools where the spark plugs should be. My job on Boxing Day is changing the gasket. Thank you for including every clip needing disconnected and connected. Will be playing this vid as I fix it !!!!
Did you end up having to replace the whole cover? I have a 2011 I started with replacing the Gasket, only to find out still leaking oil due the warped valve cover. -_- So this time around I upgraded to Aluminum Valve Cover from ESC hopefully it wont warp anymore.

How did you clean the pools?
Did it work out?
Where did you get the gasket?

It lasted a bit longer then yes i noticed it was definitely warping a bit. Did a aluminum upgrade video recently lol looks much better to
Don’t you have to pre-lube those gaskets before installing them?
You can if your worried about the gasket getting caught and knicking
@@ghostlyrich awesome! Thank you!
Oh god he forgot to use sealant 😂
She did just fine with out it surprising i know. I waited until the new valve cover arrived and then it got some sealant
@@ghostlyrich Where shoul I put some sealant?
