There's a running gag in medical circles that cardiologists are troublemakers and I guess here is categorical proof. No surprise really, we're mostly type A personalities. Seriously though, I had no idea about any of this. Thanks for involving me in this awesome vid, great fun!

I've only ever heard this type A thing when people talk abiout how they are type A. No one seems to want to be type B. It's just a form of self flattery, a humble brag if you mention all the "negative" traits like impatience etc.
I remember reading about Type A personality in English class (as a second language), where I then wrote about how I must be Type B. Never heard anyone actually use either type though. Possibly because we didn't get the fake research over here.
100%. If i had to pick id be type B, i have goals and ambitions but i tend to take them slowly and rest often. Nothing i can write a blog about. Its similar to people claiming theyre OCD, its showing off their organisation and cleanliness
It's disheartening to see industries funding studies for their personal gain. I'm glad the research industry is better regulated now and adheres to code of ethics. Sometimes when reviewing studies, it's good to look who funded the study.
Thumbs up for mentioning the big 5 personality traits. I did an assessment 2 years ago. Planning to do it again in the near future, to see how much I have changed.
"Type A personality" just sounds like the kinda thing people would claim if they wanted to place themselves into some kind of exceptional category. "I'm type a, you see, so that's why I'm so rich and successful, etc..." Yeah right...
Really, you would think I am type A because I am competitive, like to learn stuff and am an "overachiever" But, I am not one bit outgoing, impatient or do "excessive" hand-gesturing. I listen quietly with my hands folded..... It's all BS. People don't fit into boxes.
I've always been more partial towards the MBTI personality scale than the other ones. I took a screenshot of my results in 2011, and ten years later, I'm still mostly the same as I was back then. INFP-T.
Ok, so all I thought about when reading this title was B99 and the line "A tight schedule that can only be achieved by a type A personality!". Then they showed the clip and I freaked. Nine Nine!
Hello from Denmark. I've mostly heard about "A-mennesker og B-mennesker" (A-people and B-people) in the context of sleep paterns. If you're a morning person, you're a type A.
Fibromyalgia has my fight or flight system perminently engaged; I cant relax, am always in agony, and my muscles are always tense; this has massive effects on my personality that are really hard to cope with, tho I keep trying to get through it, but I lack any support, as the care I need, from chronic pain, neurodivergent, and mental health sectors of the NHS are poorly funded here in the North of England
I've never heard of type A or type B personalities before, but trying to put people into 1 of 2 categories seems so unspecific that it wouldn't be helpful even if it were real.
I remember a professor talking about type A and type B personalities in one of my classes years ago - that's where I heard it from. To be fair, this psychology professor did recommend "vodka and Vicodin" as a solution to your problems in almost every class. But I've always said I'm a type B personality - whether or not these labels are real, it's a pretty good description of me.
03:51 We certainly wouldn’t take money from the tobacco industry 03:54 because we get plenty from 5G manufacturers in the coronavirus coverup. 03:59 Oh God, I've said too much. Lol 😄
I was enjoying this. Until the end. What’s wrong with mediocrity? I’m a GP. I was in a locally elevated status among my peers two years ago until events occurred through my actions and the actions of others. A recent family bereavement has also made me more introspective and wade into Epictetus. I think if our behaviours can promote quality longevity then if this suggests mediocrity at some level, then I’m all for it. We all can’t be leaders. But we can lead our own lives for ourselves
What do you think about the idea that since conscientious people tender to be more wealthy, one reason for their better health is better access to healthcare?
I was feeling so good until you got to neuroticism. I'm a loner, enjoying my solitude as a necessary buffer between me and "the world", perhaps slightly on "the spectrum". Though I don't think of myself as neurotic, the definitions and behaviors seem do seem to be oddly relevant and applicable. What to make of it? Professionally, I tend to get tunnel-vision when working a problem, which can rub others the wrong way. I'm good at problem-solving, and a bit hard on people. Which some view as neurotic, as I tend to insist I'm right until presented with evidence to the contrary. At which point, when proved wrong, I complete cave and apologize profusely. Which, truth be told, is often the level of pushing needed to get others off their butts to challenge my view of the world. I view it as a win-win, but others view it as their needing to "correct me". Sigh. Perhaps I'm not a great collaborator. I've had a ton of therapy, and consider myself to be a CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) success story for depression, but if anything that success has solidified my view that truth is exposed by doing, not by postulating or pontificating. (I'm an engineer, if it wasn't obvious already.) This episode was personally challenging, as I've often worn the "Type A" label without seeing it as being in any way valid. But what if "Type A" is merely an external observation, and not at all an internal reality (as a diagnosis)? That's the only context in which it would seem to make sense.
I'm latino and have many italian friends, so I kinda have a master's degree on hand gesture. With that knowledge in hand: no, you don't use your hands that much. Also, most of your movement (and this is coming from someone who watches you on a screen, not real life) is limited to the radius of your elbow. Truly hand talkers (:3) extend their elbows and use their wrists and the pointy things beyond wrists to get the point across. However, I also have many germanic and english-speaking friends...and you do kinda move your elbows a bit more than the average austrian and brit I've met. So yes no and depends. Like everything in psychology hahahaha.
I'd like to see you do a video on the Hartman Personality Profile known as "The People Code". the corporation I work for did this test on all the employees. The finding show people usually have more than one classification.
I find that it's Type B people who like to label people as Type A as a way of saying they are neurotic and that's why they don't understand how Type B people are feeling. I don't recall anyone saying "You're type B, that explains everything" but I have definitely heard "You're type A, that explains everything".
I once did a test to see which level of secondary education would fit me. It was testing motivation, personality relating to learning, and of course a combination of knowledge and understanding. I have no clue anymore what the full result was (it's over 15 years ago) but I do know that from hearing descriptions of what type a and type b are (which I never knew before) I thought I was neither. Or rather: it depends on a plethora of things how I act. ADHD and this typing also don't really seem to fit together (especially when you realize for us it probably depends even more on the situation how we act and interact). Bullshitting research is something of all ages apparently. Only currently psychology has a bunch of fraud going on at times because of the publication stress for the authors/researchers. And it's not always easy to check if something is fraudulent. I've studied at a university that had a scandal going on with one of their psychology people of massive proportions because it had been going on for years (and they published multiple articles a year). From someone of the medical field: be careful with health science research and make sure to check the meta-analyses if you want to be as certain as possible. Same goes for medicine btw. The newest lab research is often the most fascinating stuff. There also hasn't been a lot of time for repeat trials in a lot of cases. Hmm. I wonder what kind of archaic, non-existent personality type this comment would place me in...
If personality is measured by behaviours, how do we know we actually determine the personality behind behaviour _instead_ of the behaviour? In other words, could our behaviour actually _be_ our personality?
Good video but I am kinda disappointed you didn't explore the association with bloodtypes. In Japan at least they play with the idea that your bloodtype determines your personality. Kind of like how in China your personality is based on your chinese birthyear
I have read that blood types personalities also don't really have enough scientific evidences, just yet another system to type yourself and others. Not that different from Hogwarts houses typing system. Similar usually goes about chines and western zodiacs.
@@nothingthere3959 Yeah I don't believe any of that. Just wanted to point out that there are other interesting aspects to explore like the type being determined by your blood type
Using type a personality does describe some personality disorders. Trying to use other phrases for a person who acts like all the “t traits, “of a type a personality listed or just going around and trying to say something different in a different way. Is what type a personality wants you to do. Most of the people who are on this fictitious list as you say are really horrible human beings that control others. And think that they should live the way that they live. So I’m going to continue to use a personality because it’s easier that everything is on that list and I have a family member that’s on steroids on that list.
