    This test is so unnecessary. Just pull it over a edge in one direction like in real world scenario. I get that they want to do scientific test to gain some information on resistance and abrasive resilience but that is not comparable to real stress situations

      Why would the rope only go in one direction though? For instance, when you’ve got someone locked off, and they’re hanging on the rope, it would be exactly like this test - rubbing back and forth over an edge (due to the fact it’s dynamic, hence there’s stretch and bounce within the rope). This effect would be magnified should the person on the other end be attempting to prussik or jumar up the rope, which is an everyday occurrence when big wall climbing.
