Fire ant soldiers are the most efficient ant to upgrade for their buck, as every other ant needs to pay 3x the cost for one Level 3 ant, fire ants get two Level 3s for 3x cost of a tile. For example, with 40 food Fire Ants you can get 38 Level 3 Ants for 2280 food, while a similar costing ant would get 19 level 3s for the same price (and keep in mind most ants cost more than fire ants).

Don't forget that kills increase your income. I'm not sure what the ratio is, but I've seen the enemy have a much higher KDR and have a higher income, even though you have the mid bonus. I've seen the opposite as well. You had a much higher KDR and much better income.
