@@LoGsounds Ha, yup! I just finished binging your channel. If only I showed the same tenacity in practicing I might have more to show for my thirty years of playing! Incidentally my fingernails catch aa well. And then tear almost inevitably. I keep a glass nail file on my desk to accommodate the frequency of touch-ups I require. I’ve considered acrylic nails for finger picking as well, but have heard horror stories of fingernail rot or decay. I do envy the nails so I use finger pics which I’ve never got comfortable with as of yet.
Thanks for the comment. I've mentioned this before somewhere, but it's applicable here so I'll mention it again. I've had acrylics on my right hand everyday for the past 4 to 5 years, and I've never had a single problem. I've heard stories like fungus buildup and whatnot on the internet, so I asked my nail technician about that (The woman who does my nails). She said the only way that can happen is if the application was done improperly, as the only way fungus can build is if water or bacteria gets under the acrylic and festers. If anything can get under the acrylic that means it wasn't set and sealed properly, because the person applying it did a bad job. I believe her because I've never had any issues in the years that I've been doing it. Now overall fingernail decay can happen for some people, but that's usually after an extremely long time of constantly drilling your nail bed down. There's a chance I'll probably have that if I keep this going, but I honestly don't really care. What else am I going to use my nails for. That being said, acrylics are not for everyone. Be prepared to get weird looks all the time and be prepared to have nearly indestructible long-ish nails on one of your hands.
Hey man I just started messing around with finger picking and was wondering what’s the best way to play on one string? I’m guessing to use your Pointer and middle finger as you would with a bass but just wanted to make sure.
That's the common approach for sure. But there are a bunch of things you can try, depending on what's natural. Some people like pointer ring, or even thumb pointer. Can't go wrong with pointer middle but experimenting can be good too.
@@LoGsounds Here's an example, striking downward with the tops of your nail tips as well as the underside of your nail with the curved edge... ua-cam.com/video/E9_NxA0eu3g/v-deo.html :Hope this clears things up (rumba flailing)
@@scottfree4100 I see, I do not do that. I'll strum down with the top of my nail, but strumming upward with the underside of my nail has always felt really awkward, because I have them angled in a certain way.
@@LoGsounds I suggest trying up with the top of the thumb nail then down with the ring finger nail followed immediately with the Index or (P.A I) over & over till it feels natural it gives speed without trying
the so called explanation with the round shape is garbage. the reason why the nail is straight is because the file is straight. the reason the file is straight is because the quickest distance between 2 points is a straight line, which in 2d, accounts for a plane (flat) field. and you want the quickest distance between touch and release points on the nail because extra resistance = more force needed to play and lower speed, so it feels awkward as well.
you nailed it bro.
👍
😂
Well that answers the question I asked a bunch of videos ago. 😂
You found it!

You explained this so well
That last piece was amazing

I don't know what that means!

i think in this vid he's speaking more on the concept of "edge picking" but translating the concept to finger picking
you are partially wrong
partially correct
