Yeah the heat can be just as deadly as the cold. So it’s important to plan for both. Utah doesn’t get to the extreme heat as Arizona but in central Utah we hit 103-105 several times through our summer months.
Chris, what temperature do you keep your shed in the middle of winter? Just built a large room for my finches in my garage and was wondering what is a good temperature to keep. Thanks
If I am breeding my birds I try to keep it between 70-75 degrees if I am not breeding in the winter then I will keep it to 55-60 degrees. I would caution if you keep your birds in the garage to not keep your cars in there as the exhaust fumes will easily kill your birds.
For indoor aviaries, what's the minimum amount of light and temperature to keep during the winter months? I was around 80 degrees and ~14 hours of light during the breeding season. I was thinking ~70 degrees and 10 hours of light. Is that okay?
Thank you both. Helpful information
You’re welcome!

Intro is perfectly timed!
We did better on this one for sure!
love to see one on keeping finches with doves
Yeah for sure.
Good one guys! Something I don’t have to worry too much about in Arizona but I have to worry about the heat in summer.

Thanks for your reply. No, we don't keep our cars in the garage.
Awesome glad to hear. I’d love to see pics if you haven’t already sent me some?

How about how to prevent night frights as winter means darker longer nights?
Love that. We’ll add it to the list.
Good idea!

Yeah that is similar to where I keep my birds inside the bird shed for them to molt.
