Been a metal fan for about 35 years, but until recently Priest somehow pretty much passed me by. I am now convinced they are the greatest metal band of all time. This is one of their masterpieces. Metal Gods indeed.
Indeed. Did you know Judas Priest was the first band to be labeled a heavy metal band? A lot of people will disagree and say Black Sabbath was . They have been playing heavy rock for longer. The term ,"heavy metal" came from a Stepenwolf song. But it was Priest that was the first band to be called Heavy Metal .
@@LCNRC it's a good question. I think I heard a couple of their more radio-friendly hits and didn't think much of them, and so didn't seek out anything else. For instance Breaking the Law is mediocre in my opinion, and gives no clue whatsoever as to what the band are capable of.
Amazing how they both kept pushing the boundaries and writing more complex guitar structures and solos as they got older, listen to Rock a rolla and then 20 years later they released painkiller really shows how proud of their craftsmanship KK and glen are.

I finally got to see Judas Priest for the first time this year. Rob Halford is 70 years old. Seeing them play this song live was one of the coolest concert moments of my life.
I understand that but why not give new music a chance? These bands have made their money and have had their place in society and history. Why not focus on new music breaking new grounds like Drake, Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, Morgan Wallen, Sam Smith, Zack Byran & Lady Gaga. This is what is hip now and what is celebrated in society. Why not give them a chance?

I want to stress that as much as I dislike their music, my comment doesn't come from a place of hate. I'm glad that their music, however much I dislike it, makes people around the world happy. I mean that's an absolute win right there. That being said, I'll stick to my Sabaton, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden e.t.c.. (Though ska and punk definitely make their way on the list too.) I don't give a single ounce of a damn about what's "hip" or breaking new ground when it all sounds like the same ear-grating rubbish to me, I'll listen to stuff I like. If those artists fail, that's on those who consider this music hip.
My personal favorite song from Defenders Of The Faith......36 years after it was released, it still kicks ass! Not to mention...it's pretty difficult to play correctly too!
It's some of the best guitar tones I've heard in a song. Perfect use of reverb and pitch harmonics to create an intense atmosphere. That initial rift perfectly captures what it would be like to witness a colossal creature miles away roving between mountains in mist, undefeated.
This is a must listen to for new Priest Fans. If they want to know what they are about this is one of the songs they must listen to. AWESOME song. Love it.

I don't know if I have an absolute favorite Priest tune, but this would definitely be up there. I think of this one as kitchen sink, because they throw everything they have at it. From the exceptional start, to Rob's astonishing vocals, to that twin axe attack. Just amazing. Seeing them on the Defenders of the Faith tour w/Great White in '84 was amazing.

Priest literally created the genre of what we think of today as metal. They moved it away from butterfly collars and bell bottoms and brought in leather and studs. Maybe Kiss helped but they aren’t metal…

This was my 2nd Priest concert. Main floor, my keys rusted in my pocket. Pulled money out from my wallet and it was dripping sweat still. Went with 75 friends and we rocked the main floor. After the show I had to rinse my head in the drinking fountain before taking a much needed drink.
In my youth, I used to listen to The Sentinel before playing rugby. It always made me want to crack some skulls. Now, decades later, I just listen while calmly drinking a cup of tea. Still a great song!

Defenders is my favorite JP album. If you ask me, they were at their pinnacle of songwriting during that era. Especially lyrically. A masterpiece!
