Thank you for the remembrances. Back in 1972 when the missionaries were teaching us in California someone gave us a copy of "A Marvelous Work and a Wonder". We BURNED with the Holy Ghost as we discovered the truths in every paragraph. I got a new copy in the 1980s. It was still a wonderful book, but so many other witnesses were ours by that time...that we were not overwhelmed but filled with gratitude for all we had received...and are receiving from our prophets.
My dad was converted by a copy of A Marvelous Work and a Wonder. I’m so grateful to this man of God for writing a book that changed my family’s destiny.
LeGrand Richards is a favorite memory of childhood watching conference, for his seeming ability to talk in one long breath, for his friendly and gentle personality and humor. Later as an adult I was pleased to find he was the very sweet and gentle man he seemed to be. He is a treasure!
Back in 1972-3 I was on a mission in England and met Elder Richards in the Reading Chapel near Slough England. He was standing alone in the foyer as I entered the building and came up to me and my companion to shake our hands and greet us. I did not recognize him but when he shook my hand I felt a powerful spirit and was dazed by it. I walked away wondering what had just happened to me and who was that man that he would have such an effect on me. A few minutes later he walked by me in the hall and the spirit told me who he was. I have never forgotten and never will forget that experience.
I attended this during the fall semester at BYU right before I served my mission in 1978. It was very entertaining to see such a humble yet humorous apostle.
“I toured the Colorado mission with ‘Brother Hinkley’ who lives here in Provo, been a stake president, ‘and so forth here’..” 30:05 I love how he casually mentions in passing (at that point in time) a chosen leader who, by the way, will one day become one of Heavenly Father’s great inspired prophets, Pres. Gordon B. Hinkley.
Elder Legrand Richards was an amazing man of God. Growing up I remember always looking forward to hearing him talk. He had a sense of humor that never quit, as you heard from his talk. Can you imagine what he was like to just be around him on a day by day basis. Such an inspiring man!!!!!!!
I absolutely love to listen to this inspiring man of God. He is informative, hilarious, loving, kind, intelligent, trustworthy, truthful, and very clearly cares deeply about each and every one of us. He is true to his calling to bring us to Christ, safety, salvation, happiness, peace, and joy. I am very grateful.
Such a treasure of a man, and a humble servant of God! What a fine example of simple, powerful faith and good works! Looked every minute of this! Thank you!!!😇🥰
My favorite Gospel Writer because he is! A Marvelous Work And A Wonder is the greatest description of the Gospel and its Restoration than any man has written so far! A Spiritual Knowledge Encyclopedia Elder Legrand Richards is my HERO!!!
I was privileged to be a BYU student and to be in attendance at this wonderful talk by Elder Richards. Even ran into him later in the day at Utah Valley Hospital while delivering flowers. Sat down on the bench beside him and reminded him that earlier that summer I'd been in his office in SLC when he set my parents apart to preside over the Seattle Washington Mission. In my opinion, LeGrand Richards is the greatest missionary in modern times and being able to know him was a blessing I will always appreciate. We love you Elder Richards!
Thank you for sharing your story. A great man spirit will always linger around the people he touched spiritually even after he is gone. Even the Relief Society sisters. Where there is a great man there is always a great woman next to him. I have got to read his book, which is excellent read.
Oh how I wish my memory was half as good as Brother Richard's. These are jewels. What a fascinating handful of inspired stories. I wish I had known him... This has been fun, thank you
I loved meeting him in person in the 70’s ❤️🙏🏼 Yes! The gospel is true! I’m so grateful to him talking about miracles! Earth is crammed with heaven! Let’s take off our shoes!
I so enjoyed this talk. If your wondering if you should watch it I say yes! I don’t always care for older talks. This one with LeGrand Richards is a pleasure to watch. Full of personality, doctrine, and humor. It’s a great mix.
I appreciate his sharing the testimony of his grandmother about Sidney Rigdon sounding amd looking like Brigham Young. My own great grandfather left the exact same testimony for us to read. It's very special to me.
I have his book a marvellous work in the wonder and I’m embarrassed to say I have never gotten past the first two pages but after watching him talk and I remember seeing him once when I returned back to church on General conference he is one of the greatest
I was privileged to hear Elder Richards in the Marriott center and in the tabernacle and I’ll never forget the spirit I felt! I went up after the talk and he was gracious enough to sign my scriptures. What an extraordinary man of faith!
Amazing! A Marvelous work and a Wonder was a powerful source for me as I investigated the church in the 1970s…What a blessing to be able to hear this talk from him all these years later!
This was my first book, marvelous work and a Wonder , that caused me to run a lot faster because I understood more about the savior and the principals I needed to start living. If you haven't read this book I would highly advise you to do it, it would be beneficial to you.
Thank you BYU Speeches for putting this content out, it gives me a variety of things to watch, a bit of conference, speeches, and BOM, keep doing what you are doing, I personally love some of Hinckley's talks, even if I do not remember him being born years before his passing, 3 prophets so far, all of them wonderful!
He spoke in my institute of religion class in1979. He talked about young people should be righteous enough to marry anyone not just the “one”. I think he was saying don’t wait to hear angels sing when you choose the right person to marry.
I have a picture of him holding my week old daughter in the Netherlands when he visited. I cherish this experience and testify that he is a mighty man of God.
Does anyone have the scripture reference for 24:38 where he talks about the Bible declaring an apostasy and a restoration of the Gospel in the latter days? I’ll look for myself too but if anyone has input I’d appreciate it
He doesn't have a reference to a particular scripture in his speech. However, I'm leaving the links for both the apostasy of the early christian church and restoration pages from the topical guide so you can see possible scriptures he's referencing. www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/tg/restoration-of-the-gospel?lang=eng www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/tg/apostasy-of-the-early-christian-church?lang=eng
Old expressions die hard for example when he said "we converted" that is an old expression and it is incorrect, God is one that brings about conversion by the person's request
I feel that this man's testimony provided Satan the necessity of stepping up his game. Otherwise, I believe Elder Richards' faith, enthusiasm, and understanding of the Word of God would have converted the world. Would that we all had testimonies so firm.
totally clickbait... I thought "1997?! LeGrand Richards?! Man a talk from him coming back from the other side on how earth is crammed with heaven has GOT to be good, with his first hand experience of heaven!" Ends up it was just a talk from 1977

11:42 - 🤣 I love this man!
What a faithfull and lovely man he was !!!
The correct translation is "therefore NOT leaving the principles of the doctrines of Christ" Joseph Smith put that back in where it had been removed
@rebeccabalcom4915 LeGrand married me and my husband in the SL temple in 1967. Love that man.
Amen.
Sure wish the leadership gave talks like this again
