The Plek were the only species in the radial sphere whose Elders had declined to sign the alliance oath. Their reasoning then was that they could not risk being called out of their 1,000 year molting sleep to possibly defend the federation. They would instead become part of the mineral substrate of Near Heldon until the molt was complete. But those thousand years were over and the Plekatons were awake... and 100 times larger after their great sleep. They were now mining, without notice or agreement, Precor, the rarest commodity on planet, and the fuel of all interstellar travel. Were they leaving, or preparing for war? The fleet commanders were an ancient mariner class of navigators, capable of sailing in the thin atmosphere without the precursing electromagnetic or heat signatures that would cause the Plek to cover the mining and disappear weeks before the fleet could arrive at the Precor streams and stop them.
