Lately I've noticed how hard it has been to cope with disappointment. I started researching why I find it so hard to cope with it and because of this ted talk, I'm now realizing its because of the way my parents raised me, always saying yes. Because of this, I know how to raise my own kids differently.

The most underrated Ted talk I've ever watched. It's about freakin' keeping your self together when things don't go your way! At a time where people are literally rioting when they don't get what they want, ted talks like this shouldn't be buried under a bunch of useless procrastination videos.

She's not mediocre at all. She talks about how she embarrasses her kids and drives them around in a messy van. She actually shows up for her kids. The real disappointment is parents who don't show up at all and neglect their kids.
Dropping an ice cream cone means you actually had one to start out with.
How do adults deal with disappointment?
    This talk isn't helpful.

🎶You can’t always get what you want🎶 ik it’s such a dish move but it redirects attention to find joy in something else, which I kind of think was her point throughout the video but sloppily exicuted. But I think that’s actually perfect now I’m disappointed this video wasn’t some expert advice gonna swoop in and make everything okay. I can sit here and pout about what’s disappointing me making me more disappointed or I can make up a silly song about the situation.

This is true however the parent must also make sure that they are developing productive coping mechanisms and not learning to avoid disappointment or disassociate from it so the experiences should come with guidance and mentorship and NOT disappointment alone... THAT I 10 out of 10 do not recommend

Honestly it sounds like she cares more about her ideals that the possiblity of letting your child down is better then actually teaching them that they need to realize that they want get everything in their life they think they deserve or want. Yes, me failing my time managment skills is a perfect example to teach my kids how they can't count on any one at an early age even their own mother. Teach them that it's okay to be an average person or the average parent. Not a parent that sits down and tries to understand and teach the child and actually help them understand that real world. Just my two cents

I suppose there's a balance? Between telling your kids no/ disappointing them, and helping them out in other situations. People aren't perfect, children should learn that, they should learn that sometimes, people help you, sometimes they don't. To me it sounds like she knows where the balance lies, but that her talk is specifically aimed at the point that it's okay to sometimes let your kids down, and see those moments as an opportunity to teach your kids about disappointment.

A little dissapointing, im 29 with two boys and a girl on the way. I have major anxiety/depression, im suicidal and going through alot in life and really want to find videos from others with a similar perspective to mine but she just put me in the category of young attractive woman who have it all. Not the case at all :/

That ice cream cone was still good. All they needed to do was lick it up. And when the kid starts crying because he can't have the toy tell him that those toys are only for his brothers and sisters.
