when final fantasy 16 water boarded my soul...

- So it's fair to say Final Fantasy 16 was a mix bag when it came to side quests and their various story arcs. But NOTHING, in my mind, will come anywhere as close to the bad of Under New Management. A two part sidquests with Isabelle The Dame, orchestrating a rallying at Northreach. Sanbreque & Dion was one of my FAVOURITE parts of the story, always ripping a dramatic intense reaction from me. For the final fate to hinge on The Dame, awkwardly navigating Sabine & her a-hole dad. A cheese speech. Disjointed power dynamics. Torturous fetch questing about town and a mid gameplay showdown. The Dame & Under New Management will live on in infamy for me. As being the WORST Final Fantasy 16 quest... maybe in Final Fantasy full stop. IT WAS SHEER TORTURE! It hurt just editing this reaction. I didn't think it was ever gonna end... #ff16 #finalfantasy #finalfantasyxvi #playthrough #letsplay #gameplay

I get what Square were going for with these repetitive idealistic quest arcs. Showing nations undergoing an ideology change etc. But this is absolutely not how you go about it. The pivot is just unbelievably jarring and nonsensical. Shockingly bad story writing in numerous areas. But this one was sheer torture. Apologies if I just took a fat ol' dump on your fave NPC of all time 🤣
Under New Management II- I challenge anyone to raise me a WORSE side quest... not even in just FF16 but Final Fantasy as a whole. Legit I'd rather go hunt traps and collect frogs again... bloody hell. And no, it's not because Dames a woman lol. It's because Sanbreque, a massive global superpower that since inception has been a strong religious theocracy. Suddenly pivoting to this. Deciding not only that men shouldn't be the ones running it... but a prostitute.. in less an hour. Come on😆
Lightning dodges is up there, at least mechanically, but at least you get a good reward. This one offered nothing of value...
FF10 - Chocobo Balloon Mini game.
FF9 - Chocobo Hot & Cold
FF7 - Chocobo Breeding
Even with walkthroughs, these three were a nightmare.
I found the side questing in 15 relaxing because you can do them at your own pace and sides are better suited to open world. Also with 15 I always drive, no fast travel and the way the car drives and not having to bash the attack button just holding just made the whole experance super relaxing for me. I know it's not for everyone but it was great for me. With 16 there are just too many and they are missable and so my reaction to yet another wave of side quest after the story had barely progressed was, FOR FUCK SAKE. For me linear world designs are better for fast paced storys. Also I think the story in 16 becomes mediocre after Cid dies making me care even less about the side quests and characters. The gameplay in 16 some how at least is amazing despite it been piss easy.
@@wolfspledge1762 You seriously mean to tell me that you didn't get "immense" satisfaction with her prying the moldy sign off her wall and giving it to you as a keepsake? But for real I never even look at the tokens they give you. Everyone just picks a random piece of trash they had at hand and gives it to you as a reward.
Honestly thought looking at the quest title, Dion was coming to sort things out.
Other than the actual quests being kinda nonsense, it wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't so LONG. Every bit of dialogue was like 5x the length it needed to be in these parts. The Dame could have been a cool character if the extent of it was helping us sneak in to get to the Mothercrystal like earlier in the game, her way of getting revenge on the Empire for how she and her workers were treated, it didn't need any more than that. Also she talks super slow too, I don't like skipping dialogue but she spoke so slowly that I'd already read it like 15 seconds before the voice lines ended.
Yeah she really did drag the pace of her speech. Coupled with some lines being VERY suddenly voiced in an excessively provocative way. It was just jarring. But yeah I feel all these 'small person' characters absolutely could have had value. Representing the unseen and looked down on in society. Totally vibe that. But to then elevate nearly ALL those characters to basically the leaders of giant nations. Just too far... that's not how it works lol. It actually makes it less powerful to extract these characters WAY beyond the position that they were representing. Like suddenly putting them all in positions of dictating military strategy... wut?
That’s the main issue with me too. I liked the sidequests a lot more than I thought I would. It was a nice way to get to know the characters but a lot of the dialogue just went on far far too long
It would have been awesome if we got an Akashic invasion with the presentation of Kingdom Hearts 2's 100 / 1000 heartless encounters on Pride Rock and in Radiant Garden I feel that would make the threat of such a force being so close a lot more real
I had surgery while at this section of the game. So the pain meds made it bearable lmao. Although that said, even with them, I was still at the breaking point by the time the side quests were finished. That definitely says something
I actually hated this side quests writing with a passion... COME ON KOJI!!
I'm so glad I wasn't the only one fed up with this quest, I did every single sidequest, watched every cutscene, paid close attention to every shroud of dialogue, but THIS. When she started rambling about her backstory, I was so fed up I skipped it. Truly one of the worst in FF history!
I found some of the quest to be ok i do like how they have a nice twist. Really wish they had the option to bring party memebers with you I know they come here & there but still. Sometimes whenever i do get a party member i do side stuff so It's not just me & cool wolf
there was too many save the town from invasion type side quests thank god i rushed story after halfway so i did all side quests post-game
I'm a completionist, I'll play every side quests but after 60% of the story, all the side quests are like this in this game. This is the only main numbered Final Fantasy game I just can not finish. There are too many torturous boring gameplay repetitions, not only in the story but also in the battle system. I thought just continuing the main story would be different, but after fighting Ultima the first time, I just can't do it anymore. Not having any fun at all. So I gave up and watched the ending on UA-cam, then saw I miss literally nothing.
Edit: In Genshin Impact, there's a optional side quest that would literally take 10 hours to finish, but in the quest, we will need to explore many new areas with many puzzles and mini games that lead to epic ending of visual spectacle that's very heartwarming. Something like this is usually in all Final Fantasy games, but it's non-existent in FF16.
I generally like the side quests..
They should’ve studied the Witcher 3 because only a couple was good
Oof I'm glad I didn't bother with the dames side quests. Lmfao
There's only so many times you can suspend your disbelief to make this diabetes, feel good storytelling work.
Final fantasy 7 remake finding cats sucks
Naw. I liked Dame even though her side quests were pretty lame… at least they were more “enjoyable” than Lu-bore side quests.
FF16 is not a good game
yeah fell short in many areas, decent video game, but not a great FF game
It would have been awesome if we got an Akashic invasion with the presentation of Kingdom Hearts 2's 100 / 1000 heartless encounters on Pride Rock and in Radiant Garden I feel that would make the threat of such a force being so close a lot more real
