Maybe, but they had stuff to show then. This time, I think they just don't. I wouldn't be surprised if we get a factions SoP, but that could also be at TGAs?

Some of the complaints baffle me. "Too many indies" indie games are why big games are made. All big games used to be indies. And in my opinion indies are better games most of the big games. "It was all cgi trailers" actually there were 23 trailers with gameplay in them. "Well they didnt show (insert game guess here): well thats on you. You hyped yourself up with your own theories and high expectations. If you dont like these games cause they arent your type of game, thats more than ok but to use any of the complaints i showed above to say why its a bad showcase is to me slightly disrespectful to all the developers who are putting their heart and soul into these games.
Thank you. The gaming community seems to be very entitled to have everything pandered to them. All the games that were showcased looked interesting or fun and it is cool to see the wide variety of things being made for different audiences. I quite loved the conference.
For me what disappointed me is that they have 19 studios and only 4 of those showed anything, and of those 4 only one had gameplay I thought the showcase was great I just don’t think it was a good PlayStation one
Overall, unfortunately, a disappointing Showcase for me, main reason being that their first party showing was a huge letdown after such a long break from Showcases. I know GaaS is the direction PlayStation said they were heading in, but still, three new GaaS IPs and, for me, only one doing enough to slightly pique my interest (Helldivers II, and technically we knew that was coming), a CGI teaser for Firewalk's game, and then gameplay for Spider-Man 2 which we already knew to expect this year. And that didn't even get a date?! There was nothing new announced on the first party front that has me going "I am 100% there on Day 1", and I don't think my hopes for this Showcase were too wild: something on Factions (which despite being told to expect news in 2023 is still, somehow, tragically, MIA?), something from Asobi (c'mon, I just want a new Astro game and it's already been a minute since Playroom), and maybe something from Bluepoint (who have never gone 3 years without releasing a game and yet here we are just 6 months from that happening). It sucks seeing single player PlayStation left hanging, but it sucks even more because of how many CGI trailers were shown, and even more so because it feels like PlayStation are making missteps in tossing out their focus on single player, which is what got the PS5 in such a good position from launch because of the strength of the PS4's catalogue. I won't lie, being 2½ years into a generation, it does kind of feel weird to still mostly find myself playing PS4 games. And then third party stuff, for me, was mostly being excited about stuff we already had reasons to think/knew were coming: XVI, an MGS collection, Snake Eater (which would have been a pretty epic trailer with some gameplay and without leaking, like, a year or two ago?), and Granblue Fantasy Relink. Some indies I'll be keeping an eye on, namely Sword of the Sea, but I'm not in a rush to get to those with just how many games we're sitting on these days as it is. Weird to get hardware in one of these but as someone who owns the Pulse headset those earbuds can't come soon enough, the Pulse is hot and it is heavy in all of the worst ways imaginable for gameplay sessions. Project Q ... eh, I've got my Steam Deck which I can stream my PS5 too, so unless this is magically way smoother than we expect it to be, I'll probably pass. Shame, I think if you could download games to the console and then sync your save between the console and handheld that it could have been awesome. Phantom Blade Zero stole the show for me, but the only things giving me pause are the lack of a release year and not knowing anything about the dev - it's giving me Black Myth: Wukong vibes, and not in a bad way (the combat looks awesome), but I can't say I'm fully confident about how - or if - that game turns out. Weakest *Showcase* to date for me, and it hurts more because of the long break. Hopefully we get another this year - people are already throwing out September, and why not? - but for one of the rare few times PlayStation have decided to go first during the E3 (well, now Not-E3) season, I'm scratching my head to understand the logic. Nintendo seem to be waiting things out and so, what, battle between what has historically been a mediocre Xbox showing and the ad-infested Summer Game Fest for the best show of the summer? 🫠
@Julian Whiteway phantom blade was my game of the show.besides mgs & of course Spider-Man 2.lets not forget summer games fest. Sony will have a presence.especially with it having, show floor demos
They are so obsessed with their 1st party developers making 3rd person action adventure games instead of "diverse" exclusives; they have forgotten what made Playstation "unique".
@@paulsmith9192 Do you really think Sony skipped stuff in their most anticipated show case for years and gave it to Jeff? If they give anything to Jeff it will be something small. Sony Nintendo, Microsoft do not give a shit about Jeff. Easy Allies and other game journalists are hyping him because they are best friend with him. Very rarely he gets stuff from them.
I think it's interesting that all the best games from this event were all the sequels ( one threequel and one decasextaquel). No kidding, most of the games here were follow-ups or direct sequels, and all of them looked fantastic, fron Alan Wake 2 to Into The Woods follow-up to Ghsotrunner2 to Spiderman 2. Meanwhile, there were two really underwhelming Sony first party games that don't have any gameplay, a Splatoon rip off from Square Enix that looks less interesting than Splatoon, Bungie just playing Hype music over a CGI cutscene, the forever delayed Granblue RPG... Phantom Blade Ø looks really interesting, but it's maybe a touch concerning that there was so little showcased in terms of new IP's and new ideas. I gave the show a solid B minus, as I really enjoyed all of the second and third party content, but yeah.. I think it makes sense that Sony didn't really hype this event up in their marketing like they usually had done before Covid. This feels much like, as JP of Dropped Frames put it: " We got to get out in front of Summer Games Fest, so let's put out what we do have and then hopefully everyone will forget that we didn't have everything they wanted by the time June is over."
Pretty underwhelming showcase tbh. Can't wait for Alan Wake 2 but we already knew it existed. Would have loved to have seen something from Bluepoint or Sucker Punch. There was some great stuff in here to be sure, just lacked the heavy hitters many would expect. And it's unfortunate to see Sony chasing so many live service games, hoping one of them will stick. Hopefully, they'll have some more announcements in the Fall but it's looking like a very light year for Sony outside of Spiderman.
I thought it was a great show! So good to see Granblue Fantasy, and Phantom Blade 0 was a huge suprise and looked so far along with so much shown. Call me a S-E shill, but if that Foam game ISN'T free to play, I'd be interested in trying it out. Yeah it would have been nice to see a few more first party titles particularly what Astro is doing, but was still pretty packed. Shame about Alan Wake 2 being digital only... happy to wait a while for that to become a lot cheaper or a print run down the line.
Yeah. They did amazing. If we had this forever, then that’s perfect. Never need anything else. We don’t need last of us multiplayer or Sony bend or bluepoint. That’s all shit. I just want cgi trailer. Gameplay is crap
I don't think I have ever been more wrong in setting up my expectations for a showcase than this time. I expected much, much more, especially from first party. For once I do blame Sony for that. After such a long wait, how can they not realise this would end up disappointing a lot of their fans...? I'm so bummed out, any hype I had for summer game fest is gone.
Hey, Sony is doing their best. Because you raised your expectations and got dissapontment, you making Sony sad and feel bad. Shame on you. Next time you get exited and ready to come when you need to. We all need to. Cause if we don’t , Sony will be upset
Aside from MGS3, this was pretty lame. This is what happens when a company is hell bent on making exclusives that are "cinematic 3rd person action adventure" experiences, and refuses to invest in a more diverse 1st party lineup. The amount of time it takes is insane
And yet those games end up being GOTY contenders most of the time. Maybe you like rushed, shallow games but I prefer to wait for games that are actually of high quality
Maybe I'm the only one who set proper expectations? In the betting special all I said I wanted to see was 1. Spiderman showcase blowout. Check 2. Metal Gear anything Check I am disappointed there is still no further news on Stellar Blade
I mean… a remake of a 3 generation old game is 50% of your expectations? I would argue that your expectations are perhaps TOO low. I though it was pretty lame due to lack of diversity. The industry can’t be just “this”. We need more variety of genres. We USED to have it.
Both of those things were basically confirmed though. Not a big surprise. And as far as expectations go, this wasn't a State of Play but an actual Showcase, so I think people rightfully expected some more heavy hitters to be there.
Not a bad showcase but def not great. The main issue was a lack of gameplay in a lot of trailers. CGI teasers just don’t cut it. Gets you hyped but you soon realise you know nothing about that game. Some great games on this on but overall underwhelming.
I don't know why anyone would expect something new for Bloodborne. From Soft is busy with Armored Core 6 AND Elden Ring DLC. They are not a big enough studio to be on 3 big projects at once. Sony doesn't own Death Stranding. 505 Published it on PC after all. Sheesh Isla's bias showed a lot. People (including Isla?) complain about Xbox showing CG trailers and not enough first parties all the time. Why should Sony get a pass?
Queens is a top tier borough. Best Asian food in all of NYC and Flushing has some great karaoke spots and night life. Staten Island on the other hand… Gabby is just out of pocket for that statement.
Solid Showcase. 7/10 Was fun watching with the Allies. Disappointed not to see Factions, Stellar Blade, Death Stranding 2, and Wolverine. Also, 3 PS games were CGI which is also annoying. Spider-Man 2 looked great.
I think Naughty Dog is seriously dropping the ball. We are what? 3 full years from the last of us 2 being released and it seems we're still not even close to factions being released? Just cancel it at this point.
They are currently making quality games that will likely all be goty contenders when they release. Why do you want them to rush instead of actually making quality games?
@@miliyn17 You realize that when a new game is revealed it needs 2-3 years to actually release right? We are in the mid of this generation and where are the games?
Highlights for me 1. Phantom Blade looks insane. Lets hope it plays similar to what was shown. 2. MGS 3. Lets go! 3. Im already nominating Spiderman 2 for hall of greats. If they put as much care and effort into this as they did 2018 and Miles Morales, i fully expect it to be insane. Lowlights 1. Stop with the fully CGI reveals with ZERO gameplay 2. Concord. The fuck? Logo and then peace out?
Really disappointing Showcase for me. Go watch E3 2016 to see what a 3rd year into the gen conference should look like. This was a Showcase after almost 2 years and it only showed ONE First party single player game, the rest of first party were CGI trailers for GaaS games, the total opposite of what most people expect from PS games. 3rd party stuff was good but i expect first party games from a main Showcase.
The only thing about spider man is that air tunnels for the wing suit. Feels like a cheat instead of a clever way of using building to give you more speed.
I wonder how many games Geoff got a hold of if this is how “barren” the showcase was. I just hope the Xbox thing has anything considering how down in the mud they are recently.
How was this barren? It was over an hour of non-stop games, many of which are massive previously unannounced titles. New IPS, remakes, collections, cool looking indie titles, sequels to massive franchises, etc.
I am not sure if I am getting older but I remember how exciting showcases for 2007 2008 2010 were and then 2015 to 2017. Where are the big new titles? So many indie looking games. Alan wake looks great but basically all over the shoulder horror games look similar now. Nothing new looking. Even spider man looks similar to last game .
Sony blew their load at the end of last gen, and at the start of this one. From their perspective its a good strategy. Lots of games front loaded at the start of a gen, to drive adoption, then lots at the end to capitalise on the maximum install base for big sales numbers. But leaves things pretty quiet mid gen. Same thing happened for PS4. All those CGI trailers from their first party are a sure sign that those games are early in development (those CGI teasers are usually for hiring new staff rather than for the fans), and if that's what they had ready to show, you've got to imagine their other stuff is even further away 😕
I guess it was an overall good show, objectively. But for me, personally, it lacked games I want. Live service games can shove it. I am in the majoroty of the sony fan base (I think) in wanting single player narrative driven games. With forgettable no-personality-nonsense like the haven game, they will alienate their customer base. Perhaps they will find new ones (and I hope they do, otherwise their single player offering would suffer even more), but I am lost with these games. Used to be that sony catered very precisely to my tastes. Regrettably that is not the case anymore.
It's not even a case of too much hype with this one. This was a Showcase in name only. More like a drawn out state of play with some sweet Spiderman 2 gameplay at the end. Marathon will be awesome I'm sure but the cool gam,e announcements only got short teasers. I could see Summer games fest being better which would have been crazy to think last week.

Hear me out. The last time we got a Sony showcase in 2021 there were 2. One in May and one in Sept. With the absent of the majority of Sony 1st party studios, do you think we’ll get one come this Sept.?
Maybe, but they had stuff to show then. This time, I think they just don't. I wouldn't be surprised if we get a factions SoP, but that could also be at TGAs?
I expected more things to be revealed post Spiderman launch.
Maybe on another Showcase. Maybe at the VGAs. That means, no other big 1st party releases in 2023.
@@andreaslindenthal6654 Not that companies are wrong to do this, but I also think they don't want to cannibalize their own message. Sony is just showing off Spider-Man for now. Square-Enix is just showing off FFXVI (and not rebirth).

For me what disappointed me is that they have 19 studios and only 4 of those showed anything, and of those 4 only one had gameplay
I thought the showcase was great I just don’t think it was a good PlayStation one
I wish Mortal Kombat XII was announced at PlayStation Showcase 2023.
There isnt gonna be a Mortal Kombat XII for a loooong time. They are literally rebooting the series and starting with Mortal Kombat 1

Your an underwhelming showcase

I don't think I have ever been more wrong in setting up my expectations for a showcase than this time. I expected much, much more, especially from first party. For once I do blame Sony for that. After such a long wait, how can they not realise this would end up disappointing a lot of their fans...? I'm so bummed out, any hype I had for summer game fest is gone.

I though it was pretty lame due to lack of diversity. The industry can’t be just “this”. We need more variety of genres. We USED to have it.
@@JazGalaxy What are you talking about ? I get that showcase was mid but no diversity ? We had shooters,platformers,2d, openworld,
@@JazGalaxy There is way more variety of games than there ever was.
Both of those things were basically confirmed though. Not a big surprise. And as far as expectations go, this wasn't a State of Play but an actual Showcase, so I think people rightfully expected some more heavy hitters to be there.
idk how anyone could guess spiderman would be first and not the last game lol
They were all riding the hype train, it honestly should’ve gone first.

There is nothing wrong with indie games. Also, most of the big titles have already been released.
@@alexlyster3459 That is a deeper analysis than I was expecting. Thanks for the insight.
More boring than Staten Island Gabby!? Staten Island!?
I guess it was an overall good show, objectively. But for me, personally, it lacked games I want. Live service games can shove it. I am in the majoroty of the sony fan base (I think) in wanting single player narrative driven games. With forgettable no-personality-nonsense like the haven game, they will alienate their customer base. Perhaps they will find new ones (and I hope they do, otherwise their single player offering would suffer even more), but I am lost with these games. Used to be that sony catered very precisely to my tastes. Regrettably that is not the case anymore.
Point is I should have been so excited at the end of this. Like absolutely dripping. But instead it’s just flopping about

It's not even a case of too much hype with this one. This was a Showcase in name only. More like a drawn out state of play with some sweet Spiderman 2 gameplay at the end.
