Yuri (George) was my grandmother's cousin. He was the sweetest man and always made me laugh! When we would visit him in Arizona he would make me a special pb&j sandwich when he made borscht because he knew I didn't like it! I loved hearing him and my grandma tell stories of their childhoods in Kaunas. I just knew him as cousin Yuri, I didn't know his ballet legacy until I was older. It's wonderful to see how he was so loved.
I absolutely love this and is the best version of this wonderful song, in my opinion. And dare I say it even better than one of the greatest singers of all time, Mario Lanza. And the beautiful dancers are superb especially Milada Mladova
Thank you for sharing this I had a copy somewhere that disappeared. One of my favorites. Moira Shearer I was obsessed with since the movie came out when I was two years old. My mother was a dancer in Vaudeville who taught ballet, tap, modern and ballroom. There was a book about her recently by Eleni sikelianos. The red shoes is still my very favorite movie. Thank you so much for sharing!💜
yes, 'The red shoes' is a wonderful movie - i go back to it often. there were quite a few Hollywood movies in which Shearer appeared - some times with sequences as a dancer performing classical roles, like Act 3 of Sleeping Beauty'
Love this dance sequence from this movie, Night AND DAY. DON'T KNOW WHO THE FEMALE DANCER IS , BUT I think she's amazing It's like she's liquid so smooth and light as a feather! Just beautiful!.
Yes she’s great! My mother was a dancer starting in vaudeville when she was seven and taught ballet, tap, ballroom and modern. A book about her is by Eleni Sikelianos. I haven’t seen it yet!
LeRoy Prinz oversaw the dance sequences for many many Warner Brothers films, but I'm not sure he actually choreographed this or the specialty tap dance in "Night and Day." I'd be interested to know more about how this sequence came about.
All the dancers were beautifull, Im not familiar with George Zorich indeed he was fine and outstanding. I loved these old hollywood extravegazas, they were so lush and romantic. at times they would feature stars from the ballet and other musical repertoires.Very enjoyable. Thank you.
George zoritch was a founding premier dancer of the ballet russe. Between companies, he danced in cabaret and Hollywood musical films. Typical ways for many ballet dancers even until the 50's to pay the rent and make money. See founding members of the Ballet Russe.
i knew he was credited in Samson and Delilah - odd that the Wiki entry on the movie does not mention him en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samson_and_Delilah_(1949_film)#Casting in fact no dance scene is mentioned - Wiki does not always get it right!!!
If "he" refers to George, he was most certainly an important "classical" dancer. I am told he was first gentleman to dance a pas de deux with another gent....
Part one with tenor ramirez was probably cut because of copy right infraction. Part one featured gorgeous fantasy men and women dancing begin in what some called stereotype. Carmen Miranda style and coereogaphy. Great number. In another film- Fred astride and Eleanor Powell performed in two parts: tropical bolero and tap number. Both fantastic
Wondeful. Best ballet I've ever seen. The female dancer has such grace and a unique style so awesome to watch. Love this video. Thanks.
George was my great uncle and a dancer till the day he passed ❤️
lovely!
One of the most beautiful dancing! 💕
particularly Milada Mladova :)
Brings tears… exquisite talents all around!

Fantastic

What a damn shame that only 84 people have seen this. Americans watch trash now. This is spectacular!

yes, Milada Mladova is wonderful!
Zoritch was so smooth and beautiful. Male pin-up ballet star of his time. Good dancer too!!!!!!
movie star good looks!
Wow he's fabulous. Definitely steals the show from his flailing ballerinas!
isn't he! as they say 'he's got it all'. and a sweet guy, as far as one can tell from his interviews in the documentary 'Ballets Russes' 2005

GORGEOUS dancers and dancing...oh how i love these lost days
hi Markie - me too! i have real nostalgia for them.
Preciosas las canciones de Cuol Porter
ottimo ballo ancora oggi nel 2021
Esattamente!
Dang!! Milada Mladova burned up the screen in "Night and Day".. Now, THAT's a dancer! He didn't know what hit him.
yes, she's a dancer and a half and then some! :)
I agree!
Milada Malova was also excellent as his partner in his sequence from Night and Day.
Her costume is fantastic
I thought she was so wonderful! I thought she was better than him!

Have you read his autobiography? assuming yes . . .
He is also credited in De Mille's Samson and Delilah, but I cannot find find him in it?

@Gregory Fall that could well be right
yes very few at disposal ,l was told that he was good also in classics
yes, i've heard that too - maybe better at the classics as he's less experienced here?
here we can't undrestand ,imo, his technicall level
i agree - he seems mostly being used as a partner and when he does dance it does not seem so impressive.
If "he" refers to George, he was most certainly an important "classical" dancer. I am told he was first gentleman to dance a pas de deux with another gent....
that's interesting - i didn't know that :)
a bientot.
bien sur

You ruined the original video.
