You can trim part of the upper radiator shroud around one of the screws on the passenger side and it will come out without disconnecting the a/c lines.
I did a similar thing on my Son's 89 6 speed. Dewitt radiator, Dewitt/Spal cooling fan, 180 thermostat, custom chip. Oil temp and coolant temp stay under 210 in 100F+ weather in traffic. Cruising it stays under 195.
You can. However, now you have introduced the human factor into the equation. I would not rely on myself to constantly monitor the temperature and switch on the cooling fans at the appropriate time.
All you gotta do is the 160 thermostat and manual fan switch!! Super simple!! Mine runs at 163 degrees moving with air going through it and it runs about 190 in traffic on a hot day!
Sir I have a 1995 Corvette C4 LT1 and the rad. fans come on only with the hvac turned on. So they work on low and high mode. I replaced this sensor with a brand new one and it reads on the digital dash board, and there is an analog gauge on the dash as well from the engine sensor on the side of the block, the water pump sensor shows about 10 15 lower temps but thats is normal for this set up I read. No seems to have posted the answer I need to get it to turn on the fans and not over heat. THANKS for any help!
I took the radiator out without disconnecting the a/c The radiator was clogged with grass as the Condenser was also, The car now runs about 195/200 degrees. at red light it will go up to 213, then it will come back to 198 and with the a/c on it will run 197 contant. my car is a 1992 c4
Ya.. Vettes run hot naturally. I dread getting backed up in traffic in hot weather. I was having this issue as well so l changed the temperature sensor and it runs perfectly now... cheap and easy fix.

I have the 160F thermostat but nothing else and if I run a lap on a racetrack it would heat up all the way to 120C (not F) :) the point where I start to drive with light throttle otherwise it would go even higher. after that it takes a lap or two to cool down to 85C. If I let the AC on it would stay at 120C. So the plan is to go for a better radiator.
@@ricksgarage8069 Just ordered a champion radiator, DeWitts is quite expensive and if I add 180$ shipping and over 100$ import charges to Romania the costs don’t really make sense. in the meantime I partially cleaned a dirty CAT( it doesn’t seem to build up pressure in the exhaust) set timing to 7deg, new EGR., placed two flaps below the air dam to collect like 15% more air.
Thanks for the video. My 96 Vette got so hot while idling at a fast food place weeks ago,and it started idling real low.I had to rev it a few times to get the fan to cool the engine. However, since that day,it idles low once in a while...what could that be?
In older cars the cooling fan was mounted to the waterpump shaft so when the engine revved the fan turned faster. Not so with your car. If the car is not moving and it starts to run hot, one or both of the cooling fans must activate and they should when you turn the a/c on. If they don't then you must determine why. A low idle can be caused by a number of things including a vacuum leak.

Great minds think alike.
I changed the radiator in my c4 1985 without disconnecting 80 % of what you disconnected. It seems like you enjoy creating more work for yourself
You sir, are a genius.
I did consider that option. I just didn't want to cut it. I found several advantages to removing the whole unit including the A/C condenser.

I think you can also wire in a switch to engage fans anytime switch is made.

I want the thermostat to open early enough to prevent a lag in the cooling system.
Why did you change the thermostat to 160 degrees?
What programmer did you use?
I have the 160F thermostat but nothing else and if I run a lap on a racetrack it would heat up all the way to 120C (not F) :) the point where I start to drive with light throttle otherwise it would go even higher. after that it takes a lap or two to cool down to 85C. Replacing the thermostat will not solve an overheating problem unless it is stuck closed.

what if you just reprogram it without a different radiator?
Do you still have the original optispark distributor?
It is the original optispark. Keep your eye on the waterpump so if the seal fails, you can catch it right away.

30 year old antifreeeze? !! could that be part of why its running hot?
Your vette was designed to run at 230 degrees.
True. The question is why? To meet an emission standard. Never mind that the engine is close to overheating at 230 degrees F.
thanks i ve been tripping on that .i keep thinking it needs more antifreeze and the turns on close to the red line so thats normal?
a fan switch solved my overheating probs
they are designed to run hot.
