It is a talent show for PROFESSIONALS. Dimash was invited to China as a wild card.
First English song he learned in a week. It was the third competition week He competed for 11 weeks. He couldn’t win but he won the hearts of the Chinese and the next song in the competition was his first Chinese song. AUTUMN STRONG
I Am Singer talent show is very different from American Idol. It is not looking for new talents; it showcases outstanding talents in China. It is by invitation only and the contestants are well established artists. Dimash broke viewer records for the tv station with over 600 million views overnight and a loyal fan-base who do all kinds of charities in his name. Pretty amazing how the power of one individual just by being human can bring joy to many people and generate so much generosity, compassion and the desire to give to others in need. I love Queen and Freddies voice but I actually like this version of the song better. Another good cover is his version of Hello by Lionel Ritchie, it blew me away 🥰 Another great performance is is cover of Adagio by Lara Fabian. Absolutely destroys you with his emotive singing.

"I'm a Singer" This is not "The Voice", it's a competition of already known and talented singers.Adding that the organizers keep secret the names of the participants - quite famous singers.
Dimash was the youngest of them. Its organizers invited him themselves.Dimash sang "SOS d'un terrien en détresse" in the competition he was supposed to sing first. There were eight singers, it will go on to seven. Dimash passed. Each day, one participant receives a cup and one leaves the project. There are 14 cups in total. This means that you have to take part in 14 turns. The winner is the one who receives the most cups. New singers join along the way.The peculiarity of the project is that the cameras in real mode observe your every move, film how you eat, how you behave In 2017, Dimash's competitors were very strong, experienced singers, multiple winners of the "China Music World", "M T V Awards" and others.
The peculiarity of this show is that the singer is not limited to performing the song on stage, he is constantly under real-time supervision.The main requirements for the singer in the project "I am a Singer":
1. A singer must win the hearts of the audience.
2. He has to show his new face every time.
3. To perform in a new style, in a new genre.
4. Sing Live.
The winner in each round is selected by 500 spectators aged 20-60 sitting in the hall. Each viewer has the right to vote for three singers. These 500 viewers no longer vote in other rounds. In each turn, the singers receive a total of 1,500 votes. In the first round, Dimash received 78% of the votes, ie 1170 votes out of 1500 !!!After January 21, they lost the possibility of a "normal" walk in China! She rose to fame in the 1980s as a Cantopop diva before expanding her fan base in Asia considerably by releasing over 30 stylistically diverse albums in Cantonese, Mandarin, English and Japanese.
Dimash is only 22 here, and he has never stopped his vocal training and education. So just imagine how great he is now.
He has increased his range to 7+ octaves. If you would like to see Dimash the musician, no singing, watch "River of Love" in this performance he is playing the Dombra. It is a 2 stringed lute like instrument that is basically the national instrument of Kazakhstan. The music was composed by the gentleman on the keyboard, who is also Dimash's good friend.

Dimash has said that he spent half of his school day at music school when he was a child, and the other half was regular school. Participants in the 'The Singer' competition had a week to learn and arrange the song that has been chosen for them. Dimash didn't speak a word of English at the time and only learned the lyrics phonetically. It was the 3rd song in the competition.

In 2017 Dimash received a wildcard for the “The Singer” competition in China. He was the youngest participant ever (22 years old) and the first non-Chinese. Foreign participants were actually forbidden until then. The director ignored the ban, believing Dimash would only stay 1 or 2 episodes and then go home.
Despite Dimash's planned brief presence, his name was intended to be symbolic and understandable to the public. Dimash was given the Chinese name Dimashi and the 3 syllables were assigned Chinese hydroglyphs: ⭐Di - achievement ⭐Ma - precious stone ⭐Shi - dream, wish.
This competition is not a talent show. Only professional, award-winning singers participate. Nobody knew or heard Dimash before and he had to start first ... and after his first song "SOS" Dimash captured the hearts of over 600 million viewers overnight. The next day, bodyguards stood in front of his door.
The competition consisted of 14 rounds over 4 months. The jury consisted of 500 spectators who knew music, not just your average "Joe". They were well screened to be sure they would be able to judge the musicians fairly and competently. With up to 1 billion people watching this TV program and international interest was aroused. The performances were uploaded to UA-cam ... and so we became Dimash's Dears.
The Chinese organizers planned... but Dimash came, sang and stayed ... for the next 3 years in China.

I love and APPRECIATE your reaction to Dimash. I want to see your reaction to every single song by Dimash. In 2012, his MV , My Beauty was composed by Dimash and his father wrote the lyrics. He’s still a teenager and the video shows his first band and his first girlfriend ( in the flowered dress). A must see in order to fully appreciate how far he’s came and how much his voice has matured. At last count, his voice range is 7.7 octaves.

Now that you've met Dimash, check out Hua Chenyu. Most people start with Nunchucks. He's maybe not *quite* as good as Dimash technically, but is as good if not better in the performance. Many people compare them, but i don't think you can. They're very different. I love both of them equally. In the mean time, enjoy the journey into Dimash's world. I envy you discovering Dimash from the beginning. .

My favorite underrated Dimash performance is Autumn Strong from the Singer 2017. It's the Chinese language version of Ikanaide and extremely stripped down for a Dimash song.
The emotion he wrings from it is phenomenal.

Dimash is the best singer in the world 🌎
You're almost right ... Dimash started tuning his ear to perfect pitch in his mothers womb! (Don't forget both parents are well regarded singers in their country). Then from toddlerhood he was up on stage with them - taking bows {too cute!}. Then, before the age of 5 his family realised he had talent and he commenced his music studies around that age. He says music was around 50% of his curriculum from then. But it would be a mistake to assume that he missed out on broader education. Among his many interests and fitness regimes is martial arts. He also plays many instruments and sings in 15+ languages. Then he studied every aspect of music and every genre - Daily and for the past 20+ years. He also swims - daily if he can - to expand his lung capacity. Finally, people around him report that he doesn't 'practice' only x number of hours a day - but that he lives and breaths music with every waking moment. Is constantly humming and vocalising to himself.
Probably in his sleep as well !
You are doing great. "I'm singer" is not a talent show - it's a competition of the most famous singers in Asia and surrounding countries. Every participant is the best singer in his or her country. Dimash was an invitee and finished second simply because an outsider was not allowed to win this competition. I'm a Queen fan, so I delayed listening to Dimash's cover of Queen songs for a while because I was afraid that I would be frustrated. But this performance completely blew me away. I loved everything about it - the arrangement, his singing, his passionate performance. Please continue this journey. His next performances on I'm A Singer are Autumn Strong (Chinese version of Ikanaide that you reacted to - his interpretation is different and to me, I prefer his interpretation of this early version, very haunting), Adagio (you'll love it), Daididau (heavenly beautiful Kazakh folk song), Daybreak, All by Myself, Unforgettable Day (composed by Dimash), Confessa and Diva Dance (the song was sung by an alien in Fifth Element - actually programmed by a computer because it was not supposed to be sung by a human), a Tribute to MJ (Dimash is an MJ fan). watch Gloria Wu’s channel for his Singer performances for yourself, even if you prefer a different one to use for your reaction, because she has the back stories to all the ones based on a real event, she has English lyrics and she has tweaked something so you don’t get blocked. Freddy was brilliant considering he didn’t really have proper vocal training like Dimash but in voice and technique, even if your prefer Freddy’s style, there is no comparison with Dimash. Their voices are totally different I like that when he has to cover a song (for this contest they were only allowed one original, the rest has to be covers) he doesn’t even attempt to copy it, makes it totally different with ruining it, adding so many extra elements.
At 5:31 the gentleman in the suit you see making a "Yes!"-fist gesture is Dimash' father. He's a singer himself and they're very close.

I haven't heard in reactions or read in the comments of Dimash cover songs as it relates to the integrity of the "original" versions. In all those I have watched I am struck by what I believe Dimash, his accompanying musicians and his production team, think about this integrity and what seems to be a real "respect" for the original artist's version. Dimash deserves respect himself for this, as well adding the magic Dimash ingredient. I think he is not trying to "own' the original but for many he manages to do so! How can anyone emulate Freddie Mercury, Lionel Ritchie, Celine Dion et al? Dimash seems to manage it with them all!

I personally prefer Queen's original to Dimash's cover of this song, but I definitely like Dimash's version of Lionel Richie's Hello more than the original. This was just his third performance on I AM SINGER 2017. The first two being SOS and Opera 2.
This is from "The Singer" competition in China 2017. If you go to UA-cam and select that site with the Eng. subtitles. It's fun to know what the others are saying. Dimash was invited as a dark horse and the youngest competitor. No one there except for the producers knew anything about him and did not know his capabilities. He finished as 1st runner-up. I think because he was the only foreigner there and the first to ever be invited to compete. All of the others were professional singers with established careers. Oh, and he was only 22 yrs. old and has been studying music since he was 5yrs, of age and playing piano at 3yrs. of age.

Just a little note when he opens his arms to the audience that is his way of thinking them for allowing him to perform for them. He is so very humble, humanitarian, ambassador of world peace.
