Fresh that "invented" beatboxing but the truth is that in 1984 The Fat Boys released their track "Fat Boys" that featured Darren "Buffy" Robinson not only being referred to by his peers as "The Human Beatbox" in the lyrics but also showcasing his inhale bass technique. It wasn't until 1985 that Doug E. Fresh released "La Di Da Di" which was where he first beatboxed on a track. In fact I think the release of LaDiDaDi coincided with another release of his because those two songs were the A and B sides of his first ever record. So Darren Robinson was beatboxing before Doug E. Fresh was even a thing but because of his incredible success in the music industry, he's the one who opened more peoples eyes to it in the beginning. Also I love how invested you seem to be into beatboxing, its nice to see someone experiencing the same bewilderment that we all did when we first heard these tracks. If you want to see the best beatboxing of today, seek not only the live battles but also the wildcards because those two places are when beatboxers are truly in the zone. Wildcards because some people are more comfortable alone in their room and some people thrive off the intense energy of a crowd. King Inertia and D-Low are good examples of battlers whilst Helium and D-Koy are typically much cleaner and more precise when theyre "recording" in a room alone. I'm sorta generalizing here but yeah. XD
