EU refuse to buy Russian oil @ more than US$60. And Russia refused to sell oil at US$60, but sell it at US$70 to Japan, discounted at from current market price of USS80. Japan has the competitive advantages over their Western Allies.
Nothing is free. Russia possibly get some tech from JPN. Besides, everyone have different needs. RUS also wants to diversify its selling , otherwise could be too dependent on CHN.

Uh gas prices in most West EU countries 10 folded last year. West EU is hurting badly. Only a few EU counties still have to use Russian gas otherwise they freeze to death.
In the mean time India will do anything to get cheap Russian gas. Over the bodies of dead Ukraine citizens. I always thought India was such a peaceful and righteous country. Until the moment they can benefit from war….

When Iraq went into Kuwait, The USA was supposed to protect Saudi Arabia as per the agreement from WW2, cheap and constant oil for protection, as well as paying more than any other country for Americas weapons to prop up the American arms manufacturing.
Then when the USA had to go into Saudi Arabia to "protect" them, they said to the King that 'war is expensive' and the king agreed to 'Pay' for the costs of the Americans.
It was after that at a press conference, the Secretary of 'State' or 'defence' laughed and said "we even made a profit on it".
So much for the "protection for oil agreement".
