Midway, Patton, The Pacific, Band of Brothers, Saving Private Ryan, Gettysburg, Pork Chop Hill, Hamburger Hill, and The Green Berets. There are so many memorable war pictures. My favorite character is King.
My uncle Jim served in nam . I remember my older siblings and my mother's side refer to him as a tunnel rat learning later as I got older what that really meant. This movie reminds me of him.
WOW ,, AFTER BEING IN THE MILITARY LATE 70-80S IN THE ARMY , GOING TO THE MOVIES TO SEE THIS FILM I WAS TRIPING OUT AND SAW JUST THE BEGINNING OF IT AND OUT I HAD TO GO!!! THIS MOVIE WAS SO REAL I CRYED .. TO THIS DAY SOME PEOPLE LIKE THIS MOVIE AND I WALK AWAY ,ITS SAFER FOR ME G D BLESS THE REAL VETERAN BUDDYS .. VETERAN..
The best vietnam war documentary series ive ever seen was ken burns "The Vietnam War" an incredible work documenting the war from both the US and the North Vietnamese sides. And of course the politics behind it all...well worth seeing and it may give people an insight to what veterans on all sides had to endure and recover from...Of course many tragically did not recover from the horrors of war.
I and some friends of mine had a chance to be extras in Platoon. I was attending a technical computer programming Institute what's a friend of mine who was inspiring actor. We called him Shakespeare, he brought in a trade magazine it was telling us about a future military movie who is looking for extras between age of 19 to 25 come with or without acting experience. The name of the movie wasn't given but it was stated that it was Oliver Stone directed movie. We later found out it was the movie Platoon.
I remember watching this movie with my day. He really liked it at the time. I didn’t like it as much until I watched it a few more time when I got older
My dad was in the ARVN (Army of the Republic of Vietnam). We left after the fall of Saigon. Growing up, dad never spoke about the war. When Platoon came out, I was in Year 7. Went and hired Platoon on VHS and the whole family watched. Even now, to this day, I can still remember dad had some tears in his eyes as he was watching. He told us later that Platoon came close to portraying what he actually experienced in the Vietnam war. He fought in the Tet Offensive in 1968 along side many American soldiers. Unlike others, he still calls Saigon and refuse to go back to Vietnam for a visit. His justification is that it would be an extreme insult to all the Americans, South Vietnamese, Australians, South Koreans, Thai, etc. who fought courageously and left their life behind.
Fell in love with the film when it came out...showed much of the tragedy that is war with a great script and inspiring acting by all...still my favorite war film by far ...it would be followed by predator and the deer hunter.
I Saw this with my best friend Sean when it came out. We took LSD and saw it in the Casino Building Theater on Catalina Island. The acoustics in the the theatre are all most perfect. Made you feel like you were in the jungle. The Acid helped too.
Apocalypse Now. While not really a "war" movie, I've watched it too many times to count. While I was assigned to the 101st at Fort Campbell, I watched it at least once a week. I refused to pay for "Cable".
I served in the U.S Army as a Med Evac helicopter crew chief in Vietnam in 1972-1973, evacuating the wounded and the dead from the jungle and rice paddies was something I could never get used to, the smell of blood and sweat along with the cries and visuals are still impregnated in my mind. The division and fighting among American infantry soldiers as shown in the movie Platoon was very real, we were also intensively divided between groups in our Dust Off 57th Med Evac unit in Long Binh, Vietnam. We gravitated into the group that was closer to our thinking mind-set and ideas, this generated quite a bit of animosity and tension between us. Platoon director and screen writer Oliver Stone was in the Army in Vietnam in 1967-1968, the deadliest year of Americans serving in Vietnam. If you want to experience the closest thing to being in the Vietnam war without the John Wayne bull shit, watch the movie Platoon at least two times, believe me "That was Vietnam", the real American Vietnam war, I know, I was there, I was 19 years old in Vietnam and I am now 69 years old, not a single day passes that I don't think and remember the Vietnam war. "Platoon" is absolutely the best movie about the American soldier experience in Vietnam, it is Vietnam Veteran director Oliver Stone's Master Film.
I have more than three but if we are talking about Vietnam movies I would say these three are my favorite Platoon, Platoon Leader and Full Metal Jacket. And I have numerous WWII movies I like that are too many to list. My dad is a Vietnam veteran. He served 3 tours in Vietnam flying the Huey copters and the cobra copters. He was shot down 4 times and received three purple hearts. One purple heart was given because he was carrying another wounded soldier and was shot in the back by a sniper.
Jim would have been brilliant in Platoon. Bridge over Remagen Platoon Midway Battle of the Bulge Saving Private Ryan Patton Gettysburg Fury Dirty Dozen Blackhawk Down
The Lost Battalion, Saving Private Ryan, And In Harm's Way because I am still in Love with Patricia Neil...If I could have gotten One Dance with Nurse Maggie, John Wayne would have come in second. If not for my strong feelings for Patricia Neil, Platoon would have been third.
I never understood why Learner was looking at Alias & they were both laughing, while buttoning up his crotch? Perhaps, it was an actual incident that occurred to Oliver Stone, and one could not understand, unless he was in Vietnam.
I remember this movie. My daddy cried as we watch it . My dad was a Veteran.
Definitely Willem Dafoe and Tom Berenger…two of my favorites
Midway, Patton, The Pacific, Band of Brothers, Saving Private Ryan, Gettysburg, Pork Chop Hill, Hamburger Hill, and The Green Berets. There are so many memorable war pictures. My favorite character is King.

So real? How many 7.5 rounds do you think a human could take in the back while still running 😂

Why is Depp in the thumbnail?
Great movie. I know you all want to kick a**... For your friend. Well here I am... All by my lonesome.
You are hilarious! You have no idea what you are talking about. GREAT VOICE! When were you were born?
Fav Charlie Sheen movie. Men at work. But why go support HOLLYWEIRD these days?
Very disappointed in Charlie Sheen...
This movie is not realistic. For a more realistic film, check out We Were Soldiers.
Jordan Peele is extremely over-rated. Blown out of all proportion really. Johnny Depp? He convinced the world that he has scissors for fingers!
