It hasn’t always been easy to be the «different one» in a society/community/group (something Fred who is a minority in Norway (sami), Tom who is gay and Alexandra who said she was bullid as child because of her weight, can relate to). According to pre-Christian Sami religion, the people had helping spirits. These could be in the shape of an animal, called Sáivu-loddi or Sáivu-sarvvát. So they wrote a story set in Sápmi many years ago, where a person is calling upon hers/his helping spirit for extra strength in a difficult situation. With the joik the singer try to convey the feelings that the Sami have gone through, having been discriminated against for hundreds of years. The song also contains a Sami stanza: “Čajet dan čuovgga”. It is translated into “Show me the light”.
