I'll take this as a compliment!! I've been trying all month to put one together for you guys but it's been so hard with all the holiday activities. I was thankful I was able to get it out before Christmas for you. I hope everyone has a beautiful Christmas and safe New Year!
I’m building two raised beds for 2024 and want to get started in January! I’m thinking I can get carrots started and they will be harvested by the time I need to transplant tomatoes into the bed. I also want to get celery going and I plan to chop and freeze it when I harvest so that I can use it in soups and bone broths throughout the year.
Good for you!! Looks like you have a plan! The good thing about carrots is that they don't take up much root space so you should have room for it all. Good luck!
Me either! I just pulled up my cucumbers and replanted peas I was able to successfully grow one cucumber but I really need to dive in and learn a little bit more about how to care for them
Hello new follower here , yard long beans are great for stew but also great for suatee cooking if you search long beans adobo and pair it with rice. It is very quick and easy meal.
I had to pulled my Basil 3 busches I have lots of them leaves are huge and lushly especially in the Summer.Yes they love water the more water the better. I also fertilizer once every 2 months. Now I have 2 busches from seed dropped I'm keeping it all year around I have to keep it trim every 2-3 weeks so it doesn't go into seed. The more you trim and prune the leaves the more it gets brushes. The easiest herb for me to grow.
Our fruit trees blossomed again! After going dormant in a cold snap, now its hot again 😅 i haven't gotten any good growth out of the cooler crops yet!!! Love these monthly ones for our area...
Im literally 10 months late buuut maybe make like a calendar with when to plant or start seeds and when to harvest etc That would make it all super easy for newbies with planting food like me😅
I have videos on what you can plant every month of the year. Check out what to plant in November. It's never too late to start gardening in Florida. Hope you're finding some of my content helpful. I also have a gardening for beginners video that you may like.
I'm in 10a FL. I have four different types of tomatoes. One of them called delicious is growing tall 12 feet and so far produced 45 tomatoes. Other Roma tomatoes got 20 large fruits. I'm thrilled. My squash and zucchini were success and one still going strong. I used neem oil for pests, but baking soda for fungus disease. It's working. Cucumbers were very prolific and did better in container.
I've read the yard bean should be made asian style fried with seasoning and is super good that way... but haven't gotten any of my beans yet. Thanks silkies for "weeding" thru that patch..
Can you keep your tomatoes alive year round? I’m in 9b on the Texas coast and just started gardening for the first time in September. I didn’t start tomatoes because I figured it was too late, but here we are at 80 degrees in December kicking myself because I could have had tomatoes by now 😂😂
It's so warm this year you probably still can. My tomato plants are still flowering & fruiting. I let things go until they stop producing, regardless of what the seed packet/plant info or experts say.
@@4thHouseOnTheRight I literally just planted a bunch of seeds, the forecast for January says it will average 60 during the day and only drop to the 40s a few times at night. I’m gonna see what happens 😂
@@rebekahcorley4748 that's what it's all about. We try, see what happens & learn along the way. Happy gardening! Can't wait to see what happens with your newly sown seeds 🌱
Yes! I am just north of her, also in 9b. My tomatoes went in the ground in Sept. We ate our first tomato for Thanksgiving. Usually I cover about 3x in a winter. Our next 10 day forecast includes 85 degrees again!
I replant each season and Everglades Tomatoes will produce all they way through the summer heat. I have the for sale on my website southerndirtfarmandgarden.com
I live in area that gets occasional cold spells in the winter. I cut my pepper and eggplants down to a couple of inches above the dirt and they will grow back in the spring as long as the roots didn't freeze. I didn't know they'd survive but left the plants to add nutrients back into the soil. My best jalapeno plant this year was one that grew from last year. Also didn't know that about kohlrabi. I'm growing some this year and was planning on looking up uses. Thanks! I grow the Thai soldier long beans. They are a purple stripped variety. I sautee them in some bacon grease with garlic, onion, thyme, and a little rosemary. I've had some bitter ones but I think it's because we had a very dry summer.
Thanks for the tip on cutting them back a little bit more. This year I have my peppers and eggplants and my GreenStalk Garden that I can easily cover with their Frost covers. So I think they'll be protected well. Looks like we're getting some Frost advisories around Christmas this year. Glad you're enjoying my channel and hope you're learning something along the way!
Id recommend adding Garlic to your Dec. Zone 9 plant list. Super easy to grow, goes through summer, excellent bulbs just after August if you have a heavy layer of mulch over them. Potatoes are another winner to plant in December.
@@SouthernDirtGardener Im in zone 9b and soft neck seems to like it best. Hard and elephant still grow too, but the soft neck just gets so much better down here, IMO. Garlic surprised me more than home grown tomatoes!
I have struggled with cucumbers as well. However, Burpee has a variety called “pickle bush”. I have pretty good luck with those. I also remove old flowers as they die. I noticed with our humidity (I’m located in Lakeland) old flowers hold a lot of moisture and cause fungus and what not. I also take off majority of the leaves as they start to become not so pretty. Hope this helps 😃 Also thanks for the Tour! Your Garden is absolute goals and simply beautiful! Merry Christmas 🎁🎄 -Autumn 💐
Thanks Autumn for the tip on the cucumbers. I pulled them out and will be replacing with peas but I'll give them a try next year again. Thanks for watching! Merry Christmas!
Carrots can be tricky I had to replant carrots twice this year because I never came up because temperatures kept getting too hot to germinate. Carrots also require a lot of water because their root vegetable. Other than that you should be good to go make sure your fertilizing. As far as strawberries go I always buy start and I find that growing strawberries are better in a garden Tower like my GreenStalk Garden you see in my videos. You can save $10 off your order by using sd10 at checkout . I actually just purchased more to strictly do all strawberries in. The squirrels love strawberries so that's my biggest issue.
Nice gardening. I may try something other than what I have growing now, 11.7.22 may be carrots. Otherwise I am preparing organic soil and compost into the later winter moving into spring.
I'm only 10 minutes in, so if you mention this later in the video I'm sorry... How do you keep aphids away?! I'm in central Florida (Deltona) and I am really having a rough time with aphids. 😔 It feels like they're on everything. I have been following you for a while but I haven't seen any of your videos in quite some time because I've just been so busy. My point is you likely have said what you do to keep them away in another video. Just went on your website and got some of those Seminole pumpkin seeds. Great price, I'm excited to get them. I know I'll be back for others.
Hey there! I use neem oil to keep them under control along with B.T. Control for worms. As the weather cools down they should not be as bad. I haven't sprayed in over a month. Thanks for your order! They shipped out today. Hope you find time to watch more of my videos.
Thanks so much for this series on what to grow! It’s so helpful! What variety of blueberries do you have? I’d love to see a video on how to prune them as I have some and am unsure what to do with them. They are very tall and have fruit on them right now. I’m in 9b too. Merry Christmas and looking forward to more gardening fun in the new year! 😊
I'm glad you're enjoying my content. I have been learning a lot this year sharing my what to plant month to month. It's been challenging but rewarding and others are learning with me. We try to trim back our blueberries once a year or once every two years. We missed our window to prune so we will probably wait till the end of our spring Harvest and then trim back. My blueberries currently have blooms all over. Merry Christmas and I hope you have a wonderful New Year!
