Very neat little light! Get yourself some cargo pants and you can have a whole studio set up in your pockets 😂
Loved the video! Great presentation and glad I got recommended your channel. Been going back and forth between Godox UL150 and this. This seems more practical for my small “studio” space. Super easy build and tear down. I also wanted to ask if a 100w light such as this would be good enough for someone who is filming in a small room that gets pretty good natural light? Can I compete with that?
As someone that uses godox ml60’s because of the size… this is a gamechanger!
The ML60 is pretty small, as is the Amaran 60X, but nothing compared to how small this is!
Hello, I have a question. On your video, I saw that you were using the dome diffuser that comes with the kit, for food photography. Will the dome diffuser be enough for most food/product photography situations, or do you think a soft box on this will perform better? Since I am going to be doing food photography soon, I am planning to get the X100 for it, for the compactness and to cut the budget. I want to get the most out of the light for well lit photos. Awesome and very easy to understand video by the way :)
What a great video, and thanks for guiding me to this lovely new product! One question though, I can't find the Dome Diffuser anywhere, does anyone know if it just comes with in the box and it just doesn't say? Thankful for any advice!
Do you think this single light source could be effectively used to illuminate a room and four individuals during a podcast shoot? If so, what strategies would be effective for achieving the desired lighting conditions?🤔
What a wonderful question. Sure, if you had to, you could. I think the best, best, way would be a circular table and a Chinese lantern, it can be one from Ikea with a bit of modification, or one with a Bowens mount. That way the light would be soft, attractive, even, contrasty and on all four people, allowing them to look at each other whilst podcasting.
Holy sh*t!
That's exactly what i need for product photography
Yes!! This thing is so small and powerful, I think you’d be happy with it for product photography 🔥
What about shooting at weddings?
Did you test the light output with the softbox vs. the dome diffuser? I wonder which one is brighter? Asking before I purchase the dome. Thanks!
I bought the Zhiyun X100 a couple of days ago and had an issue with the battery. It can’t be charged and I’m already using a PD 100W charger. Has anyone had the same issue?
Always a pleasure to watch your videos. So well done, entertaining and informative. Can't wait for you to hit your 100k.
Zhiyun has always been kinda a pioneer of new innovations. Now they are entering the LED sector. For me the exciting question is, who will now imitate this idea? Aputure certainly, maybe even DJI.
Thank You! I'm slowly making my way towards the 100k, and I'd really like to do it with more handheld filmmaking gear than drone gear, or a least a good balance, as for a minute there I really went drone crazy haha. Yes, Zhiyun really is very impressive with it's design, as well as quality, I'm sure the others are watching closely.
Very nice light with a lot of options. It would definitely change ma game in my videos. Thanks for sharing and making detialed viedo of this product love it.
It is an absolutely fantastic light, there might be something new around the corner though so wait a month to see 👀
Phillip great product and review. So Seems the product is not available at Amazon US.
Thank You! Yes, I agree, great product! It should be, take a look here - amzn.to/3ltsiGY
@@PhillipSkraba Sorry don’t know how I’m missed that one thank you very much
I don't even need one of these.... but you make me want to buy it! Lol Greg
Lol, thanks Greg! This is actually pretty cool to have in your kit bag, it's like a ninja light.
Philip, great job showcasing these lights. I do creative work at a Diesel Performance shop in Arizona. I also do various projects outside of my day job. But here at the shop, when it comes to shooting product or shooting videos of the guys working in the shop, my current set up is pretty bulky and clunky. Especially for the setup I use to shoot our products in the office. The space I have is pretty tight and I'm tired of tripping over light stands! Anyway, I'm really considering these lights. For the product stuff I do, most of the time I'm shooting straight on a white background, because it's goes up on our E-Comm site and I use a 3-light setup with a white backdrop. But I'll be doing more commercial shoots for our product this year and doing more videos for UA-cam. Do you think going with one 100w Molus and 2 60w Molus lights would be sufficient in the garage? For Clarity our shop is about 18000 Sq and the ceilings are high, we have really weird mixed lighting so I tend to a yellow cast when I shoot without lights. But shooting will be limited to what one of the techs is working and online in that bay. So, I'm wondering if I should get 2 100w and one 60w. I'm sure the single 100w would be good enough for the key light, but would the 60w ones be sufficient for the Fill and Key lights? I appreciate your feedback. Thanks in Advance.
Looks good, the 'Pro' version with all the extra gadgets you've shown is closer to $420 though!! Going through what you get with Standard/Combo and Pro and outlining the true price points is my only critical comment in case people think you get all the add ons for $249. I want one!
Even for that $249 it’s a pretty incredible little light. The combo kit though, yep, that’s a winner!
Nice video Philipp ! Looks great but what about an equally powerful and portable one that is also RGB ?
Sure, the RGB version is the Zhiyun Molus X60 RGB, it's a fantastic light of similar design and also very, very compact.
whats the reflectors beam angle roughly? Is it tight with a spotlight look like amaran 60x or wider?
Great review! Do you know how much is the weight of the power brick and power cable?
Thank You! Oh gosh no, I have no idea, but it feels heavier than the light lol.
How well does this thing hold up in dirty or wet conditions?
Would you chuck your Arri in the mud? 😂 I would personally keep this thing clean and dry, I don’t think it would like any dirt or moisture. Other companies makeup water resistant lights but they are very, very expensive.
Can you fit this to a small rig mate? Great video
I would say so, yes, it's a fairly small footprint, if you get a magic arm I think that would be doable, yes. Thank You!
How would this compare to something like an amaran 200x/d or is there something comparable in this size/price range?
The Amaran 200x is a LOT bigger, the Amaran 60x is a LOT bigger even, this is unimaginably small, I showed examples in my video to the Godox and to my iPhone, if you saw those you would have seen that this thing is incredibly tiny for a 100w led video light. Add to that, that the fan is almost silent as it's basically air cooled all around, the price for one of these is excellent.
@@PhillipSkraba that's not what the commenter was asking. It's obviously smaller. They were asking about the quality of light, the output, the angle.
I just bought the Neewer 660 pro, but maybe I should return and instead get these as they’re super portable and I’m always shooting on location.
I have the Neewer 660, between that and this, I’d get this, unless you need RGB, this is CCT only. These are incredibly portable!
Godox Deep Parabolic Softbox P90L, 36 will work with Molus X100?
What about the Yidoblo ZC-100 100Watt Cob light,? very similar design/portability to the Molus X100.
Top as always 🤘
@@PhillipSkraba me watching stuff Phill reviews which I will never buy, to the end and watching for second time too😂
i own an ad200pro and im super happy with it. but this lit up the entire room. wow
Any drawbacks of this vs something like the Amaran 100D?
To be honest, during my testing, none. The fan even runs quieter than the other lights I own. I think the only drawback could be if you are doing client work and you pull one of these out, they make think you’re fooling around until you turn it on 😂
@@PhillipSkraba I bought me a falcon eyes rx-18tdx ii a few days ago as I didn't want to carry my COB light around to client shoots and it was the lightest alternative I could find... Been spending lots of money building out my kit and was thinking about the ROI and lifetime value of the lighting and I was sure within 1-2 years I'd be kicking myself when it's made redundant by something like this Zhiyun. Well, that future is now and I'm grateful I'm still in my return window! Thanks so much for this video + the reply!
I have the Falcon Eyes 18 original, had it for about 4 years, and as a roller, it's pretty cool, but I have since replaced it by the Amaran F21C and F22C, just a little more advanced. This though, if you don't need the RGB, which most of us really don't, this is a whole different level of portability. Thank You!
@@PhillipSkraba Absolutely agreed - I don't need the RGB myself and worst case I can probably gel it
Wow. What a thirsty vibe bro. It’s the same quality as an aputure or any other decent light manufactured in Shen Zen. But they removed half the cooling system. That’s it. I’m sure it’s decent, but damn bro - the sales manager position just open up at Zhiyun?
I think by the time I get this on hand, I will start to change the fan to watercooling radiator with RGB from CORSAIR. haha joking joking.
Am wondering the 100w with the godox 100w. Which one is brighter. I have seen their 60w version compare with SL60 and Zhiyun version falls behind, however they win hands down being pocketable.
Noone is carrying lights around in their pockets. 😂 Although the idea is noble… Reminds me of a cinema camera that used to claim pocketability until they realized noone was carrying a cinema camera it in their pockets no matter how small…
Seriously though, you started as a serious filmmaker channel and you made beautiful content…
You even said at the end of 2022 that you were bringing back more filmmaking…
Are you doing more reviews this year instead of filmmaking content?
Thats cool if you are its YOUR CHANNEL but 2 years ago I came for the short films and creative content and if you threw in what gear you used (a behind the scenes) that was great…
But this feels more like Marques Brownlee’s channel (gear review) and again that’s cool but I can get that anywhere…
What I can’t get is your talent and your creativity…. At least show me how your unique mind would use this gear in the field…
There are so many channels I just want to narrow down what i’m looking for and know if I go there I’ll get it…
I miss your true gift -
Your filmmaking Mind.❤
Does the combo and pro versions come with 2 lights? Doesn't state that on their site or Amazon store? For 400 bucks it should be 2 lights and modifiers.
No, just one light. For $400 I think one light plus all the modifiers are very fairly priced 👌🏻
Looks awesome! How's the sound of the fan? Can i use these for interviews without noticable audio disruption?
The fan is very, very quiet on this light, I’d say one of the quietest fans I’ve come across. Interviews are no problem.
@@PhillipSkraba that’s awesome to hear. Are they still quiet and stay quiet when the light is on at full power?
@@JustZG Yes, the great thing I've noticed about this light is that because it's so small and open, it cools itself much better than a traditional cob light that is encased in a metal box. Compared to my Godox, it is very, very quiet.
@@PhillipSkraba That's so freaking awesome to read. Think i found my next light then. Thanks Phillip!
camera settings would ev been usefull to see the real power that comes out, 2000 lumen a 1 meter is not that much, i imagine your settings were iso 1000 F1.4
My light meter was set to ISO 100, 1/50th, that's how all Lux is measured in the industry. It's a very powerful light, and like you saw from my tests on par with a much larger 100W.
does it heat up quickly? How long can it stay on without burning it out?
I’ve had it on all day during my tests and it was pretty cool, it’s basically a fully open light, so it air cools.
did the silicone dome /mini diffuser come with the x100 on purchase or do you need combo/pro package?
@@PhillipSkraba i cant find it anywhere on the website. Do you mean the combo kit when there are standard, combo and pro options on the zhiyun website/ bnh photo website?
I bought this light after reading positive reviews, but on the very first day of using it, my reflector got burned and stuck to its mount. I sent it for repairs, and they claimed to have fixed the issue. However, when it came back, I attached it to the Bowens mount, and within 5 minutes, it burned my Bowens mount adapter as well.
Pronunciation hint: “zhi” in Chinese is similar to “ger” when saying “Germany”.
🇦🇺 All AUD $ - X100 = $719, 60W pocket = $399 and the 60W combo = $549 - All Plus shipping $$$ Anyone still going to pay 💰 that much for these? I’m saving up for a few of the Sirui brand lights for my studio 👌🏻
I think it's actually priced pretty well for what you're getting, I'm not sure about Australian prices, but it's quite fair here. I have quite a few Sirui lights, they're not bad.
I’m curious about getting this light I’m new to using strobes and wanna use this for photography and suggestions on a transmitter to pair with the light ?
Hi there, I’m afraid this is not a strobe light, so it won’t pair with a transmitter, this is a film light, so it is constant. That being said, you can still use it for photography, I do.
@@PhillipSkraba oh cool like I said I'm new to using lighting and haven't been able to figure that out lo thank you ! great review btw was very informative
I have strobes and continuous lighting, whilst strobes are only for photography, you can use continuous for filming and photography. I'd personally go for continuous, unless you want to freeze time, then sure, strobes make sense.
need this in rgb
That would be pretty cool, mind you, I have a ton of rgb lights, and I find myself using CCT 99% of the time.
LED lights contain mercury so it’s not a good idea to put it in your pocket.
Hell, I used to stick a thermometer in my mouth in the 80's, I think my balls can handle a little mercury.
No z in the name. More like a ger Yun sound. :) :)
Like Geryun, sounds wild, it was hard enough for me to get my tongue twisting with the Polish language lol.
@@PhillipSkraba yeah, it's an odd one. Now that I think about it, Jew-Win is the best way to explain it over text. That's 100 percent. :)
Zzeeyun 😂 it’s a cool name, they make awesome innovative products, designed with a ton of style, but yes, it’s a hard name to pronounce!
“I want a mini softbox”
said no one ever.
What a shill 😂 Ho MAN this was bad, …wait he didn’t even use the bowens mount in the BOWENS MOUNT TEST - but it’s so amazing right?💀🤣
PFFFlol and you’ve had it a month but haven’t even looked at the app?! Baaahahaha omg
whew! That was cringe.
Lol Do Not Recommend
I see you're having a bad morning. A mini softbox is a tool, much like a large softbox, it's a small source of light that will create a completely different shadow than a large softbox, but you know that for sure, right? The app? I'm 43, I don't need to use the app, I use the buttons. The Bowens mount works fine, it's a Bowens mount, you stick light modifiers in it, same as every other single Bowens mount in the world.
I think you need a cuddle, or maybe a little advice. I see you're running a UA-cam channel, with your attitude towards other UA-camrs, your channel won't go far, change that attitude, be a nicer human-being.
The product seems to be awesome but this dude sounds hungry are they paying this due or giving him their products for free?
I could actually eat right now, you read my mind. What I’d give for some KFC 🤤
He's producing really high quality videos, I don't mind if he gets paid for a review like this
Amazing for what it can do ! I think we will start seeing more and more of these in 2023 ! Great review Phil !
Yes, I agree, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what pops up this year. Thank You Richard!
