Thank you, when I was six I got hit by a car while waiting on the school bus, when I was recovering in the hospital, I watched this show. Until now I was never sure if it was real, or just a drug induced fever dream.
@@ronaldmolokwu Same, the last time I watched it was about at least 25 years ago. The intro song always come into my mind for years and I just cant tell if this is real or some tune I made up. And it was dubed in Chinese back then in my country.
you aren’t alone, i remembered the toys but not the cartoon then i saw Centurions and thought that it wasn’t what i remembered the toys to be and finally recalled the other show and another name than what we were calling the toys
You can’t imagine my mental and emotional relief when I saw this! For years I’ve been trying to remember the name of that cartoon. People thought I was crazy when I’d describe it. Thought I was the only one who got to watch it lol
Even with the softened by US tv rules Spiral Zone was still pretty dark, It would have been a great gritty anime in Japan in it's raw form like votoms.
I remember this one so much, I really loved everything about it... the art direction, the vehicle and armor design, the more serious storylines... This and Galaxy Rangers are my favorite ACTUALLY good 80's cartoons no one remembers anymore.
This cartoon was sooo good. Loved how one of the Zone Riders has a daughter who was trapped in the zone. Had the toys. They made soft goods cool way before Mezco did.🤣.
The opening is catchy as hell but this is sadly one of those cartoons that I barely watched in the 80's as a kid because their stories are unnerving as hell. They're not horror story scary but there's a grim and depressing element that's not seen in most of their contemporaries at that time.
I watched it as a kid in the 80s. I admit that I felt creeped out by the mind control factor of the Spiral Zone areas. That is why I felt happier watching M.A.S.K. which aired on the same day as Spiral Zone on our TV.
I missed the rockin intros of these cartoons from MASK, Thundercats, Silverhawk, Spiral Zone and even the turkey-rated TF the Movie. Those rockin music seems gone
I bring up Spiral Zone in cartoon conversations and get funny looks because people don’t remember it well. I do. Loved the series; I was especially stricken by an episode that explored PTSD. It was made really relatable (I think they called it battle fatigue but ya know still). Thank you thank you THANK YOU for this episode. When I first discovered your channel I looked for Spiral Zone coverage... I guess you were just waiting for me to get here! 😂🤣 excellent as always and again THANK YOU!
I feel the same way when I bring up Count Duckula lol. Even my best friend thought I was imagining it for a bit till I found proof. One thing I love about the cartoons from the 80's was the theme songs...they had banging intros that stuck in you head more times than not. I'll still hum the Spiral Zone intro from time to time even though I haven't seen it in awhile, I had the first VHS waaay back in the day and watched the crap out of it..I think the only thing I loved more at the time was TMNT and Thundercats..but I loved a lot of those 80's toons like Transformers, G.I. Joe, M.A.S.K, TMNT, Thundercats, Silverhawks (Tally Hawk! *cyborg hawk screech*), Visionaries and the like. Hasbro actually owns the rights to M.A.S.K and Visionaries iirc so they could bring it back whenever they want...i wouldn't mind a shot at getting the toys again brand new for less than trying to get them used off Ebay. I actually had the life size Tally Hawk toy from Silverhawks...I loved that thing. Then there was Jayce and the Wheel Warriors..it was wonky but the intro was crazy and was almost a mini power ballad.
Until recently, I thought I had hallucinated this show and toy line because nobody I talked to remembered it. I know my brother or I had one of the villains, and I definitely remember watching the show while getting ready for school. I remember how hopeless everything felt in this show and that always stuck with me.
I remember watching this show and loved the theme song. Even now in 2018 (turning 40 next month) I still love the theme song and find myself singing it.
I cant thank you enough for this video. As a kid my mom got me the Bandit figure as a Christmas gift and I LOVED it. I've spent the last 20 years trying to remember what it was. Thanks so much. I plan on picking him up asap via Ebay. You have no idea how happy you guys made me tonight.
This awesome, at so much of a higher level than any of its contemporaries. Was more like an action-packed eposodic Robotech. My very first choice when I was 11.
Always thought it was Sparrow Zone. Damn. Been searching in vain for a cartoon called Sparrow Zone. For some reason, the soundtrack to this cartoon has been ringing in my head lately. I was fascinated by it as a kid.
I LOOOOOOVED this series, in the rare occasions when this would go on the only Angolan public tv channel. The music, the vehicles design, radiation theme, this just screams 90s
Spiral Zone was an amazing show. But so many times I got the feeling it did not use the full possibilities. There was so much left. It felt like driving a superfast car with the first gear. Sad. But I still like to remember this series. Great video. Keep doing.
This, along with the toy line, would've been amazing to 10-year-old me! I'm guessing this aired at a time me and my friends were watching something else entirely, because we would've all been loyal viewers!
Maybe I was too busy watching old Looney Tunes and Mighty Mouse in the 80's to notice. But seriously, this must've really done poorly for me to not even have heard nostalgic rumblings of this. And I've heard of roughly ever 80's toy commercial series.
Those figures were awesome and the cartoon was one of the few that as a kid didn't feel was pandering to me. Finding out now that the whole thing was a creation of the same guy as Gundam makes a lot of sense.
Thanks bro....I used to watch this show and mimic the villain leader back to 80's , when my brother and I played good soldiers and bad soldiers on channel one Iraq national t.v and now am 42 Those were golden days of our lives ...
Looking back at this show as an adult, I started to see the social implications of our treatment to the earth and the devastation of war. This cartoon was ahead of its time and I still love it.
6:24 the 80's was an UNCOUNTABLE avalanche of toys, media, comics and so many MORE TOYS, that Spiral Zone became little more than weird outlier more inline with Visionairies and Bravestar. OH.MY.GOD!!!!! You have answered the thw question I was asking myself for YEARS. What was the name of this cartoon? I never knew how to even begin the internet search for this. Thank you soooo much for this. I can now rest easily. You are the best!
Ah, those hard to recall half memories of cartoons of a bygone age. I think the big one for me was "Spartakus and the Sun Beneath the Sea". Most people recall Mysterious Cities of Gold, but forget Spartakus. "It's like, there are worlds within worlds underground and they travel in a giant, flying robot turtle! And there are these singing anteaters and children without legs!" Heh, the looks I'd get.....
How have I never heard of this? I would have loved this as a kid. Could you please do Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future. Love your show by the way.
I'm surprised that the villain of this show is not more popular. He did what Skeletor, Mon-Ra and other villains couldn't do, he conquered most the world and the heroes have little chance to win.
So excited to see this! I remember this series being terrifying to me as a child, but it nonetheless fascinated me, and I still remember it to this day. Was curious a few years back and tried to look it up. No one had heard of it and it was like it had never existed. Thanks for bringing my nightmares back to life!
I'm very sorry to say that I had forgotten about this series till I watch this episode. I loved spiral zone so much but was unable to obtain any toys at the time. Thanks for this episode!
The Bandai toys were really brilliantly executed, even if they were overly fragile.. the most expensive toy in the line, the “monoseed” vehicle, was way ahead of it’s time.

these toys hold a special place in my heart: they were the first toys that I remember being given years ago, back in 1988. they were bargain bin toys after cancellation but they were still new toys. we played with them for a while but they were supplanted by GI Joe and Ninja Turtles the next Christmas
Thank you for showing that this series existed, I watched every episode I could back in the day and loved it. None of my friends my age ever remember it. I would have picked up some of the toys, but they were hard to come by in my town. Next you have to do Galaxy Rangers.
I would've been in 6th grade. I should have been watching this show. It sounds like it would've been right up my alley. I don't know why I wouldn't have seen it.
This was probably one of the most memorable cartoons of my childhood, despite it looking like so many other shows that were branded to sell military/sc-fi themed toys. They clearly put the effort into the visuals and storytelling, even during a time period where it was hard to view the show as an adult and take it seriously. It's aged incredibly well, hell, there's an entire episode on the governor of Puerto Rico wanting to evacuate her citizens due to flooding and the US government doing squat to help with aid relief; that's some incredible foreshadowing right there.
Maybe I don't need to comment but thank you for putting what happened to Sprial Zone on your channel. It was a cartoon tv show I used to what back then like all the others that were out.
I'm from Germany. I watched the series via satellite dish. I wasn't even 10 years old at the time and I loved it. I still think the cartoon is good today. and the intro still rocks.
I loved the Mighty Max cartoon. Had an all star cast (Welker, Curry, Burton, Paulsen, to name a few). Personally, I loved the time loop ending for the series. I thought it was fairly inventive.
My brothers and I had almost (all?) of the toys. The action figures came with audio casettes featuring a Spiral Zone episode. We would listen to them in the car...
Wow I musta been too old for cartoons when this came out. I must admit to having never even heard of it till I saw this in your playlist. Ty I'm def going to look this one up and check it out. :D
Initially, I didn't like spiral Zone when I first saw it, but it grew on me. Sitting here decades later and I'm thinking the concept would make one helluva video game.
getting old. I'm watching and thinking, man...this looks pretty awesome! Then about half way through remembered I actually had Dirk. He just stood there looking tall next to my Joes...He had a cool helmet though.
I really liked the toys from this line. I only had a few, but I was one of those kids who loved articulation above all else in toys. The only problem I had was the hands breaking off. I don't really remember seeing the show, but I was aware of it. Some of the toys had a mail away deal where you would get a certificate, dog tags with your name on them, an audio cassette tape, and a few other things. I still have some of it around somewhere, but I remember the tape was basically just a short story about the conflict, and it didn't interest me much. I just mainly liked the figures. Still, its nice to know that it has its place in toy history, and it would be nice if they would at least release new versions of the toys at some point.
Not sure how (I live in the UK) but I still have every issue of the DC Spiral Zone comic from when I was a kid. The lovely old couple who ran out local shop always made sure to get one in for me. (Bless them RIP) I don't know if they are worthless or not but to me they are priceless. As a kid growing up in rural England they were massively exciting.
Thanks for this one. I forgot the name probably 10 minutes after it was cancelled, but remember thinking Dirk Courage's super unicycle or whatever it was, was one of the coolest vehicle designs of all time.
I actually saw some of this series. It was interesting somewhat. I also got an audio cassette that gave a sort of episode. I played that cassette so much I can still hear it in my head even today (and I'm 50 now).
2021: After binging on Toy Galaxy content over the last 12 months, I'm starting to see a pattern here. A lot of these cartoons that seem to have flopped in the US ended up being shown in Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 on ZTV. Saw a lot of them growing up there including Spiral Zone.
Ahhh that 80's music opening still pulls me in. I liked the show but it was almost to dark for a kid to comprehend.... and not get kinda depressed at the time. Even when the good guys won it didn't feel like winning. Never seen the toys in person but they looked nice in the pic. Great EP!
Same here across the board. I don't think I ever saw a commercial about the toys back in the day. Also, I could only watch the show when my parents weren't aware it was on as they didn't want me to see it.
I saw this series as a kid but I never even knew they had a toyline. That's probably because (like the video said) the market was already saturated especially by the likes of Transformers and GI Joe. Still loved the show though. Looking back they had very mature themes concerning war and its effects on both sides.
Thank you, when I was six I got hit by a car while waiting on the school bus, when I was recovering in the hospital, I watched this show. Until now I was never sure if it was real, or just a drug induced fever dream.
Oh my God for years I thought I dreamt this show too.. 🤣 it was until a friend of mine in High school said he'd seen it too
@@ronaldmolokwu Same, the last time I watched it was about at least 25 years ago. The intro song always come into my mind for years and I just cant tell if this is real or some tune I made up. And it was dubed in Chinese back then in my country.

It was both
You can’t imagine my mental and emotional relief when I saw this! For years I’ve been trying to remember the name of that cartoon. People thought I was crazy when I’d describe it. Thought I was the only one who got to watch it lol
Had that happen when I recalled having watched Count Duckula a time or two...but nobody else but me and my family remembered it.
Spiral Zone’s plot sounds awesome. This needs to be a Netflix series!
this deserves a live-action movie
this show or this review?
Even with the softened by US tv rules Spiral Zone was still pretty dark, It would have been a great gritty anime in Japan in it's raw form like votoms.

I think that contributed to its lack of success. It would have probably better fared in the nineties, or maybe early 2000s.
yeah, the undead 'zombie' people were freaky as hell. but good animation.
I feel the same way. I remember it and have the episodes now but back then I barely watched it.
This is everything g i joe arah should have bern in those regards my friend
I watched it as a kid in the 80s. I admit that I felt creeped out by the mind control factor of the Spiral Zone areas. That is why I felt happier watching M.A.S.K. which aired on the same day as Spiral Zone on our TV.
Watching this channel brings back all the feels........and the urge to buy all the toys I couldn't afford when I was a kid
I missed the rockin intros of these cartoons from MASK, Thundercats, Silverhawk, Spiral Zone and even the turkey-rated TF the Movie. Those rockin music seems gone

It was definitely a show that explored themes that a lot of other shows couldn't go into. You're not going to see PTSD discussed on GI Joe.
To be honest, at that time it may have still been called battle fatigue or shell shock instead of PTSD.
I feel the same way when I bring up Count Duckula lol. Even my best friend thought I was imagining it for a bit till I found proof. I remember the toon. Was that the one with the villains in the Chrysler building? I don't remember it having a toy line though.
I remember the cartoons coming on Sundays
This channel is gold , i loved this cartoon too much that i still watching it more often 2020.
I'm watching it now
I loved this show when I was a kid. It was so dark and eerie for a kids cartoon.
The big wheel vehicle is so badass. Best design ever for a combat toy.
This show was really scary to me as a kid, I used to watch it in the morning while getting ready for school

Saw your Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors episode, and was /really/ hoping there would be one for Spiral Zone!
Such a strange, wonderful, bizarre show.
You make Spiral Zone sound awesome. Too bad I missed it in the 80s.
Surrender or pay the consequences!

I feel ya
Thought the same thing
This awesome, at so much of a higher level than any of its contemporaries. Was more like an action-packed eposodic Robotech. My very first choice when I was 11.
Always thought it was Sparrow Zone. Damn. Been searching in vain for a cartoon called Sparrow Zone. For some reason, the soundtrack to this cartoon has been ringing in my head lately. I was fascinated by it as a kid.
One of the things I remember most about this cartoon: "You are what you eat. You are 'Red Meat'."
Didn't expect this series involves two of my favorite mech designer!
I've been looking for this for years!!! I knew I hadn't made up a cartoon where a guy rode this big monowheel!
I LOOOOOOVED this series, in the rare occasions when this would go on the only Angolan public tv channel. The music, the vehicles design, radiation theme, this just screams 90s
Thanks for introducing me to this show! I just finished the series and now I'm kinda bummed that there's no more Spiral Zone to watch.
The dark themes of Spiral Zone were to become my favorite aspect of the show.
I was shocked to see this on my feed! I swear I felt like I was the only one alive that remembered this show. I still have the lunch box lol
55,000 subs!!! Holy shit!! I remember when you guys had about 2,000. Way to go and well deserved!
This one went completely over my head. I missed this completely back in the day.
OK now Dino riders
Yes do dino riders please!
This!!!!
I'll add my voice for that one.
Watched it when I was a kid, first it scared me then i was just obsessed with it.
I've been waiting for this!!! Now do Inhumanoids!
Alejandro Diaz I know, right!!!!!! Do we need a kick starter for Inhumaniods.
Yes we do
Agreed!
That would be awesome👍
Won't anybody think about those poor TV sets?
Spiral Zone was an amazing show. But so many times I got the feeling it did not use the full possibilities. There was so much left. It felt like driving a superfast car with the first gear. Sad. But I still like to remember this series.
Great video. Keep doing.
Albeit simplistic, Spiral Zone had one of my favorite toy themes of the 80's, second only to M.A.S.K.
This looks like such an amazing concept and now I'm mad I didn't know about it before.
This, along with the toy line, would've been amazing to 10-year-old me! I'm guessing this aired at a time me and my friends were watching something else entirely, because we would've all been loyal viewers!
At the risk of being the "HOW HAVE I NEVER HEARD OF THIS" guy...ahem... HOW HAVE I NEVER HEARD OF THIS?!?!?!?!
I found out about it by going through compilations of 80's cartoon intros.
Guessing you were a kid in the 90s,not 80s
Maybe I was too busy watching old Looney Tunes and Mighty Mouse in the 80's to notice. But seriously, this must've really done poorly for me to not even have heard nostalgic rumblings of this. And I've heard of roughly ever 80's toy commercial series.
Welcome to the club. I grew up in the 80s and I'm still finding shows and toy lines that I've never heard of.
Maybe I was too much into Transformers in the 80s, but this just passed me by.
Those figures were awesome and the cartoon was one of the few that as a kid didn't feel was pandering to me. Finding out now that the whole thing was a creation of the same guy as Gundam makes a lot of sense.
Thanks bro....I used to watch this show and mimic the villain leader back to 80's , when my brother and I played good soldiers and bad soldiers on channel one Iraq national t.v and now am 42
Those were golden days of our lives ...
Looking back at this show as an adult, I started to see the social implications of our treatment to the earth and the devastation of war. This cartoon was ahead of its time and I still love it.
Thanks for keeping this memory alive! I watched Spiral Zone every morning before school back then.
6:24 the 80's was an UNCOUNTABLE avalanche of toys, media, comics and so many MORE TOYS, that Spiral Zone became little more than weird outlier more inline with Visionairies and Bravestar. You watch fragments of episodes not really knowing what's going on until they get cancelled and fade from memory.
"Surrender! Or face the consequences." Still gets me all pumped up today lol.
I felt both disgusted and scared by this cartoon as a kid. I loved it!
And there are these singing anteaters and children without legs!" Heh, the looks I'd get.....
Vincent Mostajo ,this is one of the best shows of the 80s.Galaxy Rangers, Jayce and Wheeled Warriors ,and Ulysses 31 were some of the best as well.
Indeed. Too bad they didn't renew the series because the toys didn't do so well so the story never got a resolution.
How have I never heard of this? I would have loved this as a kid. Could you please do Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future. Love your show by the way.
The Party Source Reviews I think he did!
those toys look very well produced for 80s standards
Great it’s like my childhood relived Dan keep it up and Greg keep him cracking up
I'm surprised that the villain of this show is not more popular. He did what Skeletor, Mon-Ra and other villains couldn't do, he conquered most the world and the heroes have little chance to win.
This was my favorite cartoon from the '80s. Bionic Six and Galaxy Rangers would be a close 2nd and 3rd.
So excited to see this! I remember this series being terrifying to me as a child, but it nonetheless fascinated me, and I still remember it to this day. Was curious a few years back and tried to look it up. No one had heard of it and it was like it had never existed. Thanks for bringing my nightmares back to life!
Love this channel. You're putting out so much professional quality content, it's really great.
Surprisingly diverse studio audience, too.
In case anybody wondered, he Votoms clip from Kunio Okawara is from "roots of ambition", a worthwhile entry point in the franchise.
Alex Rodriguez Bandai makes nothing but great stuff.
I don't really get why Tonka bought the licence if they not only invented the series but also changed the toys, they could have done their own thing.
Thanks you. One of my favourite shows to watch as a kid in the 80s
Mezco needs to start doing homages to spiral zone. I'd love a model kit that works with 6inch figures!
Surprise surprise. Finally a cartoon/toy line I don’t remember. Way to go Toy Galaxy! Loved the video and your channel. Keep up the good work.
A favorite show of mine growing up.
Mr. Larsen, I can't keep gushing these love letters from my childhood to you, dammit!
love this work.
I’ve never even heard of this! I thought I knew every 80s thing and blammo you hit us with this! Holy cow Dan and Producer Greg, where’d you dig this up!? Great stuff!
I never even knew this series existed, until a friend showed it to me. It was enjoyable even as an adult
these toys hold a special place in my heart: they were the first toys that I remember being given years ago, back in 1988. they were bargain bin toys after cancellation but they were still new toys. we played with them for a while but they were supplanted by GI Joe and Ninja Turtles the next Christmas
I loved this line. As a kid I had never seen anything like it.
Thank you for showing that this series existed, I watched every episode I could back in the day and loved it. None of my friends my age ever remember it. I would have picked up some of the toys, but they were hard to come by in my town. Next you have to do Galaxy Rangers.
The motorcycle inside a wheel design was brilliant.
I could be wrong, and unless I missed that detail in the video, the name of Dirk Courage's vehicle was the "Armadillo".
I can't believe I never saw or heard of this before.
Same. This sounds like something I would have loved as a kid, but I guess I just missed it entirely.
Me neither. It’s all new to me.
I thought same thing. I heard of sky commanders, air raiders, even skysurfer strike force, but never this..
I have vague memories of this show as a kid, I'm guessing you weren't alive in the 80s
I would've been in 6th grade. I should have been watching this show. It sounds like it would've been right up my alley. I don't know why I wouldn't have seen it.

An 80's cartoon/toy property I did not know about, I'm at a loss for words. I need those DVDs!!!
Wow! There is more here than I thought. Thank you for the work on this series.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching.
Maybe I don't need to comment but thank you for putting what happened to Sprial Zone on your channel. It was a cartoon tv show I used to what back then like all the others that were out.
A true favorite of mine, character development is not lost in this series. The Zone effect on humans reminds me of chronic eczema; disturbing.
My eleven year old self absolutely loved this cartoon and toys. Thanks for this episode...
I'm from Germany. I watched the series via satellite dish. I wasn't even 10 years old at the time and I loved it. I still think the cartoon is good today. and the intro still rocks.
When are we going to get the history of Mighty Max?
Tried explaining mighty max to kids I teach at school. They were disappointingly unimpressed
One of the best series finallies of all time!!! (Also one of the only cartoons to get a proper finally, but still...)
I loved the Mighty Max cartoon. Had an all star cast (Welker, Curry, Burton, Paulsen, to name a few). Personally, I loved the time loop ending for the series. I thought it was fairly inventive.
Yes!!
Hell yes! The toys were awesome but the cartoon was MIND-BLOWING!!!
Pretty much discovered and watched this show in the last couple years. Definitely a different kind of show. Really like the theme song/intro.
My brothers and I had almost (all?) of the toys. The action figures came with audio casettes featuring a Spiral Zone episode. We would listen to them in the car...
Thanks I remember and loved spiral zone. Had a bunch of toys.
This might be the show I’m vaguely remembering but I was sure I remembered some kind of pods on the skin...
Wow I musta been too old for cartoons when this came out. I must admit to having never even heard of it till I saw this in your playlist. Ty I'm def going to look this one up and check it out. :D

This show was so good! Thanks for the great content.
Now this was what I wanted to see from you guys! I used to watch the cartoon show on Sunday mornings here in the Phils.
Me too! But I liked MASK better since it was not as dark as Spiral Zone.
Best theme song of any toy cartoon. Bar none (even MASK). Maybe the best story too.
One of my favorite toy lines and stories. I'd love to make this into a movie.
getting old. I'm watching and thinking, man...this looks pretty awesome! Then about half way through remembered I actually had Dirk. He just stood there looking tall next to my Joes...He had a cool helmet though.
Another great video! Hopefully one day you'll do one about the Team America toy line.
I want a movie of this ( even if I never knew it existed) :) Your show is SO GrooooOOVY!
Thanks for this one. I forgot the name probably 10 minutes after it was cancelled, but remember thinking Dirk Courage's super unicycle or whatever it was, was one of the coolest vehicle designs of all time.
These guys shoulo have more support from the community. Great video!!!
Never heard of this cartoon or toy line and I loved watching cartoons in the 80s.
Wow. I asked for this 2 weeks ago! Thanks! Keep up the good work guys!
this channel is basically all about my childhood
Loved this show. Would come on channel 9 in the morning before school.
This cartoon was downright disturbing and frightening especially for a ten year old. I want more!
