RESTORING AN OLD LOG CABIN IN THE MAINE WOODS (with a dog)

  • In 2018 when I paddled the St. John River with Gracie, we came across the old cabin at Flaws Bogan. An old U.S Forest Service cabin from the 1930's/40's. It was in rough shape and in need of maintenance so after completing the river trip I contacted North Maine Woods. The director agreed to hire me to make the repairs necessary to preserve the cabin. This is the first video documenting the work I am doing to the cabin. #logcabin #offgrid #cabinbuilding

Many different designs for each type of project are also included. For example, there are hundreds of designs ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxb2mhCug-GkCWrq69Ce2I0nM0D4QpxAqu for outdoor buildings, from small sheds all the way up to a complete stable. Choose whatever type of shed or storage house is right for you. Pick from fancy ones or more utilitarian designs.

Great country. I made a fist full of fishing trips up there in my younger years with my sons,
We can in thru Daquuam , Ashland, Golden Road. We had the opportunity to stay at the U.S. customs facility at Daquuam on one of our trips. Fished the big Black river from the Depot road down to the the Blanchett road. We fished the St John river down to the old hand trolley crossing and on down to the confluence with the Big Black River. Fished the outlet at Ross Lake. We fished at the Thoroughfare and Churchill, the outlet at Clayton Lake. Cunliffe Lake, Clear Lake. This was when the bridge was still crossing over the St John at Ross Mountain Road intersection. Logged a bunch of miles running on those logging roads there. Red pines was another area we camped at.
Lots of great memories. Warms my heart to see the old camps getting new life.
    Great job!

No longer a customs facility at Daaquam, I believe the building you stayed in is now a Border Patrol facility, I met two of the BP guys out there this winter, great guys.

Just got back from installing the metal roof, also added knee bracing to the posts, still have a lot of little things to do but the bulk of the big tasks are complete, it's really come a long way. Water is getting too low to motor the river though, I don't think I will make it back until we get some rain.

A few years ago I spent three weeks in east Texas building out a hunting cabin - Similar stuff, also had to jack it up, exterior work and did most of the interior... I was coming back from the east coast where I did some higher end carpentry work - Now, for the 4th year in a row I'm about to head east again with a pretty full kit of tools in my 4x4 Astro van - three weeks in upstate NY, a possible project in Manhattan then to my home town at the Jersey shore where I'll mostly relax but have some work waiting there, too... I'll head back the LA in the fall.... I'd like to find another off the beaten path project like this one soon... Good for you, looks fun
