Nice climb and onlly encouraging me to do Ironman bolton now . Not as steep as the climbs we have in the west country although its a long climb for sure :)
Sean Owens Thanks for the reply. I really struggled up this on my cyclocross (50/34 up front and 11-32 at the back). i'm unsure if a lower ratio chainset would be better (e.g. 46/30) or you really need a road bike for this type of hill and not to be carrying a rucksack!
@@treguard1982 CX is okay. Your gearing is also okay. Though if a smaller ratio allows you to spin better AND you do not use the top end on the big ring a lot then it is worth it to get the smaller ring providing your front derailleur supports it. A 30/32 is a 13.3% shorter gear and would enable a cadence about 15% higher for any given speed. But you'd be losing out at the top end as well if that were something you made good use of.
@@gamma_dablam Think I've only ever managed to top out once on a nice straight long gentle descent. Ended up staying with the 50/34 and just getting stronger on the climbs. Seems to be getting easier as time goes on even with a slightly heavier (touring) bike :)
@@treguard1982 well ... as long as the gears are easy enough for the tough climbs (or will be soon). I currently have a 28T rear cassette with a compact and was going to get it changed for a 34T, but then covid-19 came along. So now I am stuck with a slightly overgeared bike and nowhere near enough strength to push it on the steepest climbs 😅. I relate to the struggle a lot. Topping out even on a compact is difficult for sure. That is really quick.

Hi Sean! Great video! Would it be possible to share this on our cycling event page to give participants an idea of what to expect with our route?
Did this, this morning! Not as quick as you though. Took my time, so worth it though once you get to go over the tops.
I'm guessing compact with a 28 cassette right? good work fella
You make it look perfectly easy you do. :-)
u r a maniac why do u go so fast
itZ amazing where u r

Hi Sean, do you do this route often?
Not easy :D You must've done this/hills quite a few time :D
Quite a few times yes.
