Journalist are profiteers! 'Nothing sells like bad news' is the media businesses mantra, after all. They lie, cheat, harass, threaten, intimate, blackmail and destroy other people's live to make money! The odd true story doesn't change their routinely evil behaviour.
Now, this media businessesman is now getting even more money by getting a book deal!

552mustang It's been reported that the blood tests were way off from bein accurate. A misdiagnosis can lead to wrong medication or no medication and both can be equally lethal. (Considering she promised to test various types of diseases)

@"guppy0112"- everyone'has to make money to live, don't they? You don't like it, then work to remove the profit-incentive that rewards bad behavior, be it an opportunist media or greedy business-people....until then you're just another hypocrite pissing-in-the-wind..... bloodsuckers like this need to be exposed and nullified.

    • @Christopher_TG
      @Christopher_TG 5 років тому +29

@@mistinippert6293 It's called FOMO: Fear Of Missing Out. It's a major psychological impulse of every human being that investors have to be very conscious about when they choose companies in which to invest, and it's something that start-ups and other "new" investments prey upon.
Walgreens was terrified that if they didn't get an exclusive deal with Theranos, who was promising what could be one of the biggest innovations in biotech history, that Theranos would take that technology and partner with a Walgreens competitor, in particular their arch-rival CVS. That's why even though there were warning signs that something was wrong, the company went full steam ahead on this partnership.

Glad to see that justice prevailed, somehow. The small fraud and con, however, remain unnoticed, uncaught. I am a Watertown/MA resident and I know a couple of thieves, William R. Noble and Marina Noble who are a bold FRAUD by lying everywhere that they are "running phase-1 drug safety studies" in their own apartment kitchen, without a workplace or appropriate space to conduct any research and both are cons, as none of them has any suitable education, or any education at all. Then, they use the fabricated "files of studies" and ask the naive, started drug companies reimburse them for so-called "vigilance." A primitive FRAUD. Marina Noble is also a shoplifter, she is an Armenian (former name Marine Mkhitaryan). We all Watertown/MA hate to see this couple still in freedom. Time by time they escape to West Yarmouth/MA, Bill Noble's parents' place when they are evading prosecution. FBI, FTC, and FDA do nothing to stop this couple, when they actions are directly endangering our lives as they create fake drug-testing records and contribute to the wrongful deaths or side effects from the not tested drugs. William Noble and Marina Noble must be in prison.

This is bullshit whether or not she profited is irrelevant in Criminal proceedings ... they have to show she intentionally or recklessly defrauded investors, which admittedly is not easy. But saying she did not profit is like saying a bank robber did not actually get away with any money means he is innocent.

Great interview! I just finished this book in Audible; it was an amazing piece of hard-hitting investigative journalism, which in this age of “infotainment” you don’t often see anymore. As I’m writing this, the Theranos website is still operational, although it notes in its “news” section that Holmes stepped down as CEO and was replaced by her general counsel, David Taylor. (However, it says she retains her position as chair of the board.) So it would appear that the author’s prediction that the company would be out of business by late July/early August did not come to pass, but when it finally runs out of money and steam, it will have to. Since the book’s release in May, both Holmes and Bulwani were indicted in mid-June on federal charges for wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud. The maximum fine is $250k, but could result in up to 20 years in federal prison.
    Time will tell.....

@Heywood Jablome the reason she got the publicity is because she cheated people out of hundreds of millions of dollars. My great idea is this: prove you're worth that 9 billion. She didn't produce anything. I'm so sick of this Leftist ideology that all you have to do is "think" about something and all of a sudden you've done something good. The very person she copied PRODUCED SOMETHING. Steve Jobs not only thought great things, but he produced great things. She's not even worthy to clip his toenails. Quit pulling out the tired old "she's in trouble because she's a woman" or even worse "if it had been a man, he'd be a hero". She is a crook plain and simple. Not a visionary. The only lives she changed were those she victimized with fake blood tests and stealing people's money.

I wonder if this book goes into her family of origin. I've read that Holmes' father expected her to do something that would change the world. Did Elizabeth feel pressure to be some sort of genius influencer? She had this idea that couldn't work. She was told that it couldn't work by experts. Did some experts give her false hope? Did she intend to run this fraud forever, or did she have some hope that it would eventually work?

Let's just take one issue, that capillary blood from a finger stick is contaminated with tissue and not as reliable for many tests compared with the purity of directly drawn venous blood. How was it explained by Holmes or the company representatives that they had found a way of overcoming this? Did they claim that was one of their trade secrets?
Another thing which was insane was their plans for imminent expansion, Walgreens testing around the country. As it was, they had trouble testing what they were doing with the limited trial Walgreens operation. Expanding that by a hundred times or more would not have solved their problems and as John explained, would have made it worse as someone or several people would have ended up dying as a consequence of the charade. Elizabeth Holmes had limitless capacity for lies and deception, but it seems like the expansion would have resulted in a mass revolt or defection by employees.

No it's not. Physics and chemistry set the limits to what's possible. It's not like you can make anything happen if you just "science" enough. It's not magic. And what she had in mind is in the realm of fantasy.

Think about it though, it will take a lot more to get there now. Nobody is going to be investing in the technology after she pulled this. She probably set it back (just like women) many years. Nice legacy.

The reason she couldn't do it is because no one can. It's impossible. That's what makes her crazy and everyone who invested in her gullible.

FairySox she has the right vision , it’s just the timing that was wrong. Can’t use 2030 technology in 2019. It just won’t work.

Patients were lied to about the reliability of their blood tests. That has to be viewed as the highest wrong here. But, every time I see a picture of Elizabeth Holmes I'm also struck by the immeasurable damage she has done to the credibility and chances of other women who try to get funding for their business ideas. It was already tough trying to be taken seriously by VCs. Now, it will be nigh on impossible.
