Any instructional videos rigging, stepping the mast and sailing tricks and hints will get a like from me!! I recently purchased a 94 year model and will be out on it soon but I'm new to sailing and instruction on this model is scarce unfortunately. Keep on having fun you guys are awsome!!! Great video!!! I liked and subscribed and set the bell so I dont miss any!!! Happy sailing!!!
Congrats on your 94, you're going to love it! I wish we had filmed the stepping of the mast when we moved the boat last, but we don't have any plans to drop the mast soon. Perhaps I can find a reason... ;) Check out the Sail Slugs video if your new boat doesn't have them already. Thanks for watching!!
Thanks for sharing I have been watching other videos on how to heave to & must have missed the switching of the tiller .i have a mac 26 x it is something I must know without thinking about for man overboard.so thank you for the clear demonstration . PS. Iam a fisherman not a sailor as yet !
It’s good to see someone filming from a classic Mac26. I have a 1987 mac26D hull #79 I’m restoring. Hoping to have it day sailing by July. Rebuilding the trailer also. Keep posting. Your video was good but I think it would have helped me more to have watched the jib/genoa as you turned into the wind rather than the tiller.
Hi Brad, congrats on the 26D, we join you in hoping it's sailing by July. Thanks for the feedback on the video. We're not pros at this and we're learning... we appreciate constructive feedback like yours. Good luck with your restoration and SAIL ON!!
I figured this out by accident. I was sailing at a close hauled course, the wind shifted, back fed my jib and immediately spun me 90 degrees to the wind and stalled completely. I just left my main in position and it stayed put, no matter what I did with the tiller. I did have a very slow forward progression but negligible and dead on 90 to the wind. Now I know that if I release my main all I need is to lock the tiller towards the wind. I'll try it next time I go out.
@@headoverheelssailing8962 well... long story short, after three hours of trying to step the mast it came crashing down on the deck as it pulled the badly overtensioned lower stay right out of the deck leaving an apple size hole and bending the mast base. no biggy, two days later i had the deck recored with much stronger backing and a hopefully much wiser stay tensioning nut. me being the nut. will try again next week once small craft warnings are cancelled. :)
Wow, I'm impressed by your quick fixes to it! We've not worked in fiberglass (yet)... it's a skill we hope to not *have* to learn soon, but know we eventually will. Let us know when you get it out and how she sails!
@@headoverheelssailing8962 highly recommend a channel called boatworks today. when i bought the boat i thought fiberglass was voodoo. now i think of it like tinkertoys!
Always wanted a Macgregor and have one in my sights. I’ll take any advice from anyone on tricks of the trade. Great day boat for us with two boys. Going to be an awesome experience
Thank you. I re-watch this video before every season. Great technique, comes handy
Excellent demonstration, very informative video. Thank you!
Thank you! It was a little impromptu of a recording, and we're glad it's helping folks. Thanks for watching!
This heave to maneuver is great for drift fluke or other bottom fishing as well as dragging a clam rake etc. Good video all around

Very good video. Unlike so many others, you didn't just talk, but as you spoke you showed how hove-to is done without confusing things. Thanks.
I know right
Thanks for for video. I need to practice 👍🏼

My Macgregor 26M does the same thing as yours. thanks for the lesson.
Glad to hear the 26M behaves the same way. Cheers!
