Troll alert. h2o wants us to think he knows what a wildlife rescuer that also educates and entertains the public as a way of getting people to notice and care about wildlife will do. I do doubt he/she has seen much of what Steve Irwin is or does. Did. Damn. One thing I find repulsive, is criticizing someone who has no ability to defend himself.
Austin Michael I heard him say in a number of his shows and interviews, that of course people expected a croc to kill him. Or a snake. Something in his zoo most likely. It was important to him that that not happen. He took precautions whenever possible, but he never slowed down. Gotta admire that, he was quite a caring man. And I think he would have preferred how he died to how people expected him to die. It was a kind of victory which I can see now, looking back.

When I was a kid, I always wondered why Steve would react like that when an animal would get angry or try to hurt him. Now I realize it’s because he respected animals so much, but also had such a desire to learn and teach about animals, that when he was showing off an animal and it would get mad or try to hurt him, he was praising it for doing what came to it naturally: defense and disgruntlement.
DID HE DIE? By foolishly grabbing a sting-ray from behind, an animal which defends itself by erecting its stinger to stab anything which attacks it from behind? Thought he knew a thing or two about animals. When you think about it, Steve Irwin made his name by harassing animals; grabbing them, capturing them in the wild just for kicks as they desperately tried to get away from him. Guess he got what was coming to him. Shame he left two little children fatherless in the process though.

If you think that getting handsy with an animal to teach about it and make people become interested is not “respect”, then you should know that not interacting with them whatsoever and having little exposure to the masses is what made up most of their bad reputation and caused many of them to become nearly extinct.

Oh you mean when he went screaming and running off stage? Get real.
The ironic thing is that it was a extremely rare occurrence from a docile animal that ended up killing him.
Austin Michael
I heard him say in a number of his shows and interviews, that of course people expected a croc to kill him. Or a snake. Something in his zoo most likely. It was important to him that that not happen. He took precautions whenever possible, but he never slowed down. Gotta admire that, he was quite a caring man. And I think he would have preferred how he died to how people expected him to die. It was a kind of victory which I can see now, looking back.

Summer Dawn How is it not respect? Teaching millions of people about animals, especially those perceived as dangerous, gives a lot of safety to them through the interest and care of the people. If you think that getting handsy with an animal to teach about it and make people become interested is not “respect”, then you should know that not interacting with them whatsoever and having little exposure to the masses is what made up most of their bad reputation and caused many of them to become nearly extinct.
