A couple things I should probably clear up first:
1:36 No, Sabah and Sarawak didn't join ASEAN separately, or anything like that. In 1961 they weren't part of Malaya, but by 1967 they became part of Malaysia (also no, "Malaya" isn't a typo)
1:58 Yeah, I said "$2.5 trillion" while the text says "$3.0 trillion". I made a small mistake in the script, so the text is right.
Not 1967 but on 1963. Malaya is the peninsular, aka Tanah Melayu in Malay Language. Malaysia = Malaya + Sabah + Sarawak + Singapore, but Singapore exit Malaysia in 1965.
Indonesia is one of ASEAN founder
How dare thy
Brunei is actually part of Tanah Melayu too but just not part of Malaysia
@@januzairamli4426 or we say nusantara also includes Singapore south Thailand south Philippines and Indonesia
ASEAN does the SEA Games every two years. I watch them, they’re fun. This year’s Games is in the Philippines, Duterte Land. It’s the 30th SEA Games
Yup, in the (kinda) city/airbase of Clark in the province of Pampanga, it's a pretty big deal there and that's how I know
Don't know that the supreme leader also watches sea games
@@bringbackthedislikecount6767 Supreme Leader watches everything.
Don't ruin it Leader Kimmy
Its really funny when people call Philippines "Duterte land" now like its some sort of amusement park. Oh wait! Hahahaha....
East Timor wants to join ASEAN.
Indonesia & Philippines: "Sure."
Singapore & Laos: "Not yet, you still are too poor."
ASEAN: "You have to meet the requirements first."
>Sad East Timor...
Omg 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@LagiNaLangAko23 why?
@LagiNaLangAko23 no, our relations have improved since early 2000, Timor Leste even heavily need Indonesia for trade, import, etc. We dont hold hatred to each other.
Some Indonesians still sees Timor Leste as "ungrateful province". Nevertheless, most just let her go independent. Relations between two countries still good, since Timor Leste is still dependent on Indonesia for most of its resources and services.
I understand that Timor Leste being a predominantly Christian nation that is geographically within an otherwise predominantly Muslim country which is indonesia is the very reason why Timor Leste is being sidelined by indonesia.
The tenet behind ASEAN is acceptance despite diversity. It was finding unity in diversity and unifying strength in that diversity that led to the founding of the ASEAN.
I personally therefore support Timor Leste being part of the ASEAN if it wants to but it is a decision for the ASEAN members to make and that decision has to be unanimous.
Lets go ASEAN.. Together we will rise stronger..
We will *rice* together!!

As a citizen of an ASEAN nation (Myanmar), I find it hilarious that outsiders expect action from ASEAN member nations whenever there is some political issue in a member nation. Not interfering with internal political affairs of other member nations by any means is one of the basic rules of ASEAN. ASEAN is primarily for economic cooperation & partially for lavish sports events.
It can if a certain nation ask for help.
@@wasantube Of course, certain actions are legal when there is a request. But most outsiders expect forced interventions which are essentially invasions.
Totally true
I thought the internet got blocked in Myanmar?
@@mapeditorjon5306 Not really. Rural areas never had decent internet or none. Internet was turned off from 1 am to 9 am from February to May 2021, but was fine at other times of day even during that. Certain sites are still blocked, but some sites had been blocked for almost half a decade.
Idk man, as an Asean citizen I perceived our country have love-hate relationship with each other member

As an Asean myself, I would say our relationship is like love-hate. We fight over stupid things like food, culture, sports especially football etc. Despite that, we're still like one big family that love to argue with each other, but in the end would always walk together in the park during sunset.
Also, calling Asean as the EU of southeast Asia is like saying English language was created in America.
Yep, we are like a more peaceful Balkan
As an ASEAN Citizen (Filipino) I suggest that they should talk about the horrible pollution of the members and do a massive reforestation where each member plant 100 plants a day for a year

But in the end all of them have that proudness as an asean citizen whenever they meet each other in foreign countries, or when they share cultural differences and *foods*
Well, Indonesia teritorial dispute only happen with Singapore and Malaysia (sabah) water. The rest are calm wkwkw

Brexit 2.0
The Smart & The Dumb Oh boy, wanna know a fun fact? Back in 2017 in Indonesia, they just opened up a new highway expansion that makes the network stretch from Jakarta to a small town in Central Java called "Brebes" it was a small-ish town so when the holiday season came in, the toll exits were heavily congested and some even were stuck for at least 2 days. Greetings from Sabah, Malaysia
Hope us ASEAN states work together to avoid Chinese influence and aggression.
Hope we can protect each other at times of war too
It will be difficult though because some ASEAN nations have good relations with china for example Laos and Cambodia
alfredo cubelo agreeably so,
But in a war with China and the US I say their unlikely to join in China’s side and instead remain a neutral country though as you said a possible Mutual Defence pact is unlikely or difficult
More or less, We still need to get our shit together first, Internal politics and such. But I hope South *insert country name here* Sea Being claimed by China should wake everybody up and get together to choo China off. Yes, just before ASEAN, in1961, Indonesia, Singapore & Malaysia was joined the Non Aligned Movement (NAM) during the cold war with the other 25 countries, soon expanded to 115 countries from Asia, Africa, South America, and some eastern Europe.. it's a group of countries that Refused to taking side with the US (West) or the Soviet Union (East). which known today as the 3rd World Countries.
in 1967, Indonesia & Singapore joined the Association of Southeast Asia (ASA), after that the name changed to Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The Bangkok declaration signed by those countries you mentioned.

Nice. I'd also like to add that while the Asean is obviously nowhere near the EU in terms of success in regional integration and cooperation, they are in fact the Second most successful regional organisation in the world after the EU if we compare it to other organizations in Latin America or South Asia.
Although it appeared only in 2015, and still handles less money than Asean, the EEU might be more successful in establishing common policies between member states, as it is much easier for citizens to travel among them, get a job, study or start a business in another member state, and the EEU is likely to establish a schengen like free movement policy (which isn't even on Asean agenda). As for currency, it is pretty streamlined, since almost all the trade is done in rubles, while asean trades in dollars and that makes it dependent on external factors as well.

Soon you’ll be having some “Pinoy Pride” comments
I don't think so because the video isn't primarily about the Phil most likely they'll say "any filipinos here?" Or "Where are my ASEAN brothers and sisters at?"
Jungwon Sriracha Kpop fans also do that. I listened to "Best Part" and saw alot, if not, MOST of the comments saying "anyone here after Jungkook said blahblahblah" and I don't get why people find Korean men hot, they look like women tbh. The only Korean guys I like are the average and not too feminine ones. It's annoying as well, especially if you dislike Kpop fans 🙃🙃🙃🙃 Besides, you may see alot of Pinoy Pride comments online but in real life, they're not applied. Like, most of us prefer imported products over local ones. And we find our own entertainment industry as boring, bland, cliché, not worth our time, so cheap, lame directing, lame actors, cringey, etc. I REALLY hate Filipino class and I know more English words than Filipino words, and it's easier to write and speak in English than Filipino. Because our language is so repititive. I participated in Quizz Bee yesterday and I wrote "Kautusang Pangkwataran" instead of "Kautusang Pangkagawaran" 😂😂😂😫😫😭
Try to pronounce this.
Nakakapagpagababag (I'm not sure if I got this write, tbh.)
Jungwon Sriracha I don't really see any Filipino pride comments, just in Philippine-related videos like Filipino celebrities or Jollibee featured by channels with an international audience. Besides, we're already improving ourselves. Just take a look at Manila (not Metro Manila.) for example, or during the election last summer. Most political dynasties lost and new faces are seen in politics. Rome wasn't built in a day and you can't really see immediate effects. (Ok, maybe except for the city of Manila part.) I only listen to some Kpop songs like those two Momoland Songs and Kill this Love. I don't listen to any male groups. You should consider that as a good thing since they are helping the Korean economy by listening to your songs lol (Assuming that you're Korean.)
Jungwon Sriracha you look like a Filipino by the way, 😂😂😂
