    Hello. Good video with one comment. Your recomendation for the oil drain plug is high to much, shall be 15 Nm (11.1 lbf ft). This is aluminium housing and easy to damage. Regards KP

    There's a good amount of oil that you can also drain out from the Hex key bolt that's right in front of the main oil drain bolt.

      @lindsey6919 Рік тому

      Are you removing the hex at the bottom of the engine near the main drain? The GasGas manual says not to remove the bottom hex bolts but refilling the spec capacity 1L is overfilling about 100 ml. Not enough to matter? Sight window is way high when cold. 2023 EX250F. Thanks

      @@lindsey6919 It’s just engine oil that’s pooled at the bottom of the case above where the drain is. I don’t see any reason to not drain all of the oil when doing an oil change. Drain. Fill. Idle engine. Check level. Add more if needed. It’s just oil.

    Quick question: At 2:36 you are torquing to 14.8 foot pounds. How are you measuring this? I can't seem to find a 13mm shallow enough to fit in that spot with a torque wrench.

    • @hyposez1129
      @hyposez1129 Рік тому +3

      You just need to get it by feel. He didn't use a torque wrench either, he just guessed that he tightened the bolt to 14.8 foot pounds, because you can't fit a torque wrench in there.

      I had the exact same question, the frame is in the way so a socket and torque wrench will not fit. Seems like a design miss; thats an important fastener since if it comes out the engine may seize.....over tighten and a big issue as well ie need for helical or retap threads and use larger screw...Per the other comment, seems like the only way is By Feel which seems a little risky, but no choice.

    Was looking at your video and seemed that you did not follow exactly the procedure thats in the owners manual of my 2018 350, downloaded the manual for 2023 and that says the same as my 2018 manual. Before installing oil filter lay the bike on the side, fill the oil filter housing 1/3 and then install the filter.
    Do you think it makes any difference? I figured that filling the filter housing reduces air in the system on first startup.
    For oil screen install they also have a better recommendation there. For 350 both manuals (2018 and 2023) give capacity 1L so there is no need to mess up a measuring jug if you already have 1l oil bottles anyway. I like Castrol ones best as they already come with built in spout so I don't even need a funnel.

      Came here to say this. You’re supposed to fill the oil filter cavity before installing the oil filter. Hopefully others see these comments.

      @@chasecrutch You can also use soaked filters. I have a few filters soaking in oil in a container for changing.
      Also the drain bolt is impossible to get a standard socket on to torque. Just hand tighten.

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  Рік тому +6

      Right, tipping the bike over to fill that housing helps ensure you have oil to all of your parts as soon as possible on start up. If you feel most comfortable with that, then definitely do it. Soaking the filter is your next best option. The engine is going to take a second to build pressure either way so I usually don't worry about it since the engine has residual oil in there that will work fine for that one second. Good call on the capacity, 1L (1000ml) for the newer bikes like ours, but keep in mind some of the older bikes will take 1100ml and there are a couple that will take 1200ml. When in doubt, check your manual as well as the sight glass with the bike level. -Charles

    So the manual for this bike says you missed a very important step. Husqvarna, KTM and such say you need to lay the bike on it's side. Half(ish) fill the oil filter cavity with the oil filter in it. Secure the cap and stand the bike backup and fill crankcase with oil. What you have shown here is an incomplete oil change missing out a critical procedure called out by the manufacturer to stop the top end running with no oil when you first start the bike after an oil change. A you a certified mechanic? If so why did you miss out the critical step? I hope folks understand your advice was bad and that they need to add this step.

    Hey i have a gas gas ex350f 2023 just picked it up. I have an hour meter on the way. I have hardly rode it just in the yard. How many hrs for the first change? i was told one hour by the dealership? And also can you change filter every other change if you change every 5 hrs?

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  Рік тому +1

      That is correct. GasGas recommends changing the oil after the first hour of operation and then every 10 hours after that.

    To see the oil level the bike needs to be on the side kickstand or straight?

    • @basementracer
      @basementracer 9 місяців тому

      Straight, when warm. Hope this helps. Don't forget to do a "proper filter change" and not what he does here. You don't want to damage your engine or cause wear that will take hours from it.

    I have a 2023 gas gas 250EC two stroke, is the procedure the same as you demonstrated on this bike?

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  Рік тому

      No, this video is for 250/350 4-strokes. You will want to check with your manual but the process should look a lot closer to this: ua-cam.com/video/SiyqqPOn8ZQ/v-deo.html

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  Рік тому

      What year is your bike? Could be 1L, 1.1L or 1.2L. Newer bikes take 1L but double check the level in the sight glass.

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  Рік тому

      The bike in this video took one liter. You will want to check the service manual for your specific specifications.
