Totally doable after 40! My only suggestion is do not get too gung-ho! Take your time, progress slowly so you do not get injured. With proper training and careful slow progress you will be amazed at what you do can do! Best of luck and happy trails.

Don’t head out to the pasture just yet. I’m doing 14,000+ footers at 50. Spend a couple years working up to it.
Love this! I’m almost 60 and heading to Chamonix in June ‘24 to🤞🏼summit Mont Blanc! Lots of training with steps steps and more steps indoors and out, plus strength and endurance training too.

Can you give me some more detail on what you mean? How quickly do you climb routes? How many pitches do you typically climb? What is the gradient of the terrain etc? What do you feel is most holding you back?
Thanks for the video man, you have my subscription. I have a question about these sort of active heart rate tests: how much effort should we be exerting? Should I be trying to push myself as fast as I can? Or is there some lower percentage of approximate effort we should aim for?
Hey David, welcome to the channel. a test like this should be performed just once every 6-8 weeks or so. if you're new to fitness I would not recommend giving a 100% effort just because it's risky. But if you've been training for some time I would recommend pushing as hard as you can. In training however it's a different story, you're better off working at a lower intensity for a longer time. I've got a video coming out very soon that with go into more detail and also the elements program which is just a few days from release gives very specific info on this but this comment box isn't big enough for me to provide sufficient detail! Hang in there for a couple of days it will be out soon! But until then, work less hard for longer :)
What kind of stretching should I do before I start the training? I assume each day before trek, hikers would spend sometime on stretching

If I choose not to use the pulse/oxygen measure - would it be equally beneficial to see instead how my number of steps increase over time during the 15 minutes?

3 questions: can I use the Stair Master instead of a box? (I'm not sure now - but I think mine is 28cm). Do you take height into consideration (I'm 5'3 / 161cm - how does that compare with a tall person of lets say 6'2" - when step training/weight of the backpack? And what do you recommend for altitude training? I'm on 500 altitude meters.. that's not nearly the 4k I want to climb...?
Pick a box that is about 75% of your knee height. In terms of altitude, I have a whole playlist on that, but don't pay to use an altitude room it's pointless. inadvisable for any layperson to attempt checking carotid pulse for a meaningful number. don't want to accidentally activate carotid sinus. always test at wrist with radial pulse.
My legs burn out very fast doing this. Do you think just training will help? I have quite large leg muscles.

What is a minimum result for 15-minute step-ups before I go on a beginner's 5-day trek (Ktm-Lukla-Namche-Phakding), thanks
Hey Alan, I don't have the direct answer to your question. But looking at your trek schedule from Kathmandu to Namche , I will say trekking from Lukla to Phakding is pretty easy as your are going a bit down on that day. Next day can be little tougher as there is steep hike for sometime before reaching Namche Bazar. So if you are a regular person for trekking and physically active, it should be fun. I did my trek to Everest base Camp in April, 2019 with a 6 years + daughter and she did well during the entire trek. Hope it helps.
