Stella by Starlight "chord/melody" - Jazz Guitar lessons - Watch and Learn

- Here´s my chord/melody jazz guitar arrangement to the song ”Stella by Starlight”. There are guitar tabs included in the video and a slowly version with the arrangement. There are also soloing lines transcribed with comments on which scales I use and in the end of the video there´s a backing track as well.
When learning jazz and jazz chords it´s a good exercise to play arrangement like this when one see the chords in a new way and also learn them in context to the melody.
Stella by Starlight is a well known jazz standard written by Victor Young and recorded by many of the jazz giants as Miles Davis, Phil Woods, Jim Hall, Jimmy Rainey and more. It was composed for the main title and soundtrack of the 1944 Paramount Pictures film, The Uninvited.
It has some nice harmonic progressions and the melody is really sweet. As a jazz guitarist it´s nice to have it in the repertoire and it´s a tune that often appears in jamming so it´s a good tune to learn.

Sure thing Thomas!
This style (chord melody with Latin/Fusion solos) really suits your playing best (at least to me). Excellent, congratulations!
I´m glad you like it Tomi! You know I´m playing in different styles and I like to do so but when it´s improvisation included
I like it a bit more so perhaps you´re right that this style suits me. But every style has it´s own thing and for me it´s a must to
play in all those styles and I think their feeding each other so to say. Thanks for your nice comment! /best

Hello Thomas! Congratulation for this very detailed tutorial on a often played classic jazz standard. On this video I see the advandtage of playing hybrid-picking again.
Best regards
Framat
Thank you Framat! Glad you like it and yes there are many situations hybrid picking is useable.
Unfortunately I am not into it. I used as an alternative the thumb pick but while some players can get along very well with it I am not so sure about me (especially on the acoustic guitar). Right now at this moment with my alternative tuning I cannot use it but it will make sense to try it again in standard tuning.
I´ll promise you great fun and for me when I´m started playing hybrid picking in country tunes it was quite hard in the beginning but with some patience and my stubbornness I master it after some time and now I´m using it very often in all kind of styles. I think the way you´re playing you will have great use of it.
I guess you are right, Thomas.
Beautiful playing Thomas! You're sounding great. :-)
Your comment makes me glad and I´m appreciate you´re telling me! Thanks Glenn!

nice effort - I thought I you were never stopping to play.
:-) Thanks, I think!
Nice Thomas, and I love your improvisation, it's refreshing, and very melodic a far cry from all the modal playing I hear today, Not that you aren't probably using Modes, but it doesn't sound like your tied to them
I really appreciate your very nice comment Joe! Thanks!
Nicely played.
Glad you like it. Thanks!
Sweet playing brother.

Very nice
Thanks Brandon!
wonderful!! th-up!!
Thanks Gary!
Very nicely play. I really enjoy it. How can you make Tele sound like big hollow body? Any chance you will video how to tune equipment to make jazz sound. Thanks.
That´s a good idea. I will work on a "how to make sound as you want it to sound" or something similar. Anyway... the jazzy sound from my Telecaster comes very much from the T-bear neck humbucker pickup that´s match the Fender Prosonic amp in a good way. Makes me glad you like it when I really like to play with my Tele and it´s sound! Thanks for nice comment!
Great! :)
Thank you very much!
Nice job Thomas! I went to your website and purchased this PDF. Unfortunately, I cannot figure out how to actually download the PDF now that I've purchased it. I was expecting a link or something. I emailed you with the same question. Thanks,
Thanks and I have sent you a mail and the pdf files are on its way.
