    Ferlin was definitely one of a kind...entertainer, musician, singer, writer, and businessman. He was a good friend and I treasure the time we spent together in Canada, doing TV and live performances. There are simply none of the hot new artists that will still be performing fifty years from now, and I doubt very much that any of today's hits will become standards like Wings of A Dove. Rest in peace, old friend.

    Had the pleasure of sitting down with Ferlin at the Old" Hoseshoe" in toronto and we both downed a couplle of dble scotch's before his next show time, what a gentleman
    I will always remember that night & his great singing. this was in the early 70's.

    One of his first tv appearences with Simon Crum Ferlin said at the end of the song that Simon had been with him in the beginning and the good Lord willing he'd be with him until the end. And he was. What a wonderful performance. My father introduced me to Ferlin's music as a child in the early 60's. 1960 to be exact and I have listend to his music all my life. He was a great solid performer who never forget his beginnings, or his family. What a large example to follow.

    He was such an honest-to-God HANDSOME man . . . but he never seemed to put that much stock in his physical appeal. Just loved him.

    The first time I remember seeing and hearing Ferlin Husky was in a movie while serving with the USAF on a remote Island in the Aleutians. That was in 1967. I don't even remember the other performers in the movie, but I do remember Ferlin Husky.

    I listened to a lot of country as a kid. Back in the early sixties you could hear country, rock, and pop all on the same radio station. I heard Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and Ferlin Husky all within one hour, and that was in Cincinnati, not some little town. I was a typical teenager with one major exception, Ferlin was (and is) my all time favorite singer. Listen to Gone or Wings Of A Dove. Saw him live in '65. How lucky I was!

    The Opry Reunion shows were absolutely amazing. But at the same time it always makes me think of all the people that should've been there (ET, Webb, Hank, Patsy, (especially) Faron etc) but were already gone, and now all the people who were there but we've lost. It's so sad and depressing. RIP Ferlin, Del, & Charlie

    I saw Ferlin in Toronto, Ontario in the 70s, with his wife and son performing. I loved him and still do. The C&W performers of his vintage were the best. I don't consider todays music C&W, just a lot of glitz and horse and pony shows. Husky, Hank Snow, Ferin Young, Earnest Tubb, Cash, Williams, and many more were stars. Today, who remembers their names?

    It's interesting to note that it was at the turn of the century that and the Hall of Fame seems to have looked back and realised who they had overlooked.in the past. 2001 was the only year when 19 people were inducted into the Hall of Fame, among them aqt last the Delmore Brothers, 49 years after Rabon died of cancer aged 36!

    @Larrygaum So true,Country music improved from the 1900's up to the 60's then it seems to have levelled out, the Rock and Roll grew out of country music and caused the "Nashville Sound" which, though good, tended to water down true country. Then we had the "Outlaws" that broke free from the Nashville Sound.So now Country music seems to be splintered. Some artists are trying to preserve Old Time, Blue grass and Western Swing but looking back, the golden years of Country Music seem to be over.

    @glencoe6305 I'm afraid The Country Music Hall of Fame has been very short sighted when it comes to artists that are not in Nashville!!!! ALL the Bakersfield artist have had to wait much longer than others to get recognised.

    Who's the guy directly behind Ferlin that's cracking up?

  • @riv4life618
    @riv4life618 12 років тому

    @riv4life618 Conway, Brenda Lee, & even Elvis (who though I love & adore more than anyone, and did deserve in at some point, was the KING of ROCK N ROLL)). All came LONG after him. Faron was another crime. He got in with Charley Pride who didn't "make it" until almost 20 years after him (and was never as big a star as him). He was one of the more famous and successful from his generation (in the George, Marty, Buck, Merle, Johnny Cash kinda league). Yet all of them got in before him.

    @saintseiya71 Why was you on here then? You will be old some day, we are all going to be unless we die when we are young. You were the one who disliked this video was'nt you? I f you don't like it don't watch it. I have two questions for you, the first is Do you have your parents/grandparents that are old? Secondly, do you hate them too?

  • @riv4life618
    @riv4life618 12 років тому

    @ratherknotty True but they've done worse to some of their own. Buck and Merle got in in '96 and '94 respectively (why in that order I'll never understand cause Buck was around a good while before Merle). Webb Pierce and Faron Young were not only Nashville based, but both were members of the Opry and two of the bigger stars from, in the words of Buck, "Bakersfield East". In fact Webb mentored Faron and didn't get in til 2001, a year after Faron (as well as after Buck, Merle, Dolly, Willie, Tammy
