  • In August 1989, after 12 years at Ibrox, Davie Cooper left Rangers to join Tommy McLean's Motherwell. His sensational form earned him a recall to the Scotland national side for the vital World Cup Qualifier against Norway.
The Scots made it to Italy 1990, but injury robbed Cooper of the chance to take his place in the squad for the Finals.
Featuring interviews with the man himself, Tommy McLean, fellow 'Well recruit Nick Cusack and international manager Andy Roxburgh, as well as vintage Cooper goals for Rangers, Motherwell and Scotland.

can be argued that in many aspects of his game he was a better player at motherwell than he was at rangers.

@@KSRugby... I wouldn't argue with that. Certainly had a huge impact, and an integral part of that '91 Cup Winning season.

@@cnoc500 i would. Maybe lost a yard or two of pace, but still had the skill, and could say he got more intelligent at Motherwell. Gotta remember at Motherwell he was playing with lesser players than at rangers, and there wasn't the pressure to win trophies every season. Also but for an injury he might have gone to italia 90 with scotland.

@@KSRugby.. The loss of pace was never an issue at FP. Had more skill in his left peg than most opponents had in 2 feet. Got to remember in his first season, he teamed up with Bobby Russell - another very clever footballer.and they had plenty willing runners around them:- Psycho, Boyd, Arnott, etc.,

My football hero Sir Davie Cooper ,knighted by those who mean more the fans on terraces. What a piece off business 50k Tommy McLean knew Motherwell fans were in for a treat.Motherwell had a good team addition of Cooper seemed final piece needed To once more watch Davie Cooper & Bobby Russell link up see the amazing understanding both had with each others game just knew were one another would be .Also likes of Dougie Arnott little terrier of a striker a menace to big Central Defenders & McLeans secret weapon Supersub Stevie Kirk both those strikers would relish having Russell/Cooper setting them up with perfection crossing .Tom Boyd ,Phil O,Donnell,Fraser Wishart learning from old pros improved their game installed confidence for sure Big Chris McCart another good big Cenre Half with McLean signing old team mate Cooper with Russell took Motherwell & fans all the way to lifting Cup at Hampden.Ask Motherwell fans today who is their favourite all time Motherwell player the majority say Davie Cooper so much so named a Stand after Cooper. Souness admitted it was a mistake not keeping Cooper even tho wanted Cooper but couldn't guarantee him a place in his first 11 Souness said Cooper would've been millionaire of he moved to Italy & no doubt could play in then League greatest players went Serie A .Arguably world's best player at time Ruud Guilet spoke with highest respect having played against Cooper and continued watch Cooper anytime he could on TV. Only a handful Old Firm players are respected have Love/Hate relationship with both Rangers/Celtic fans Cooper is one of them .Sad night Jock Stein passed away Scotland v Wales World Cup qualifier Stein put on Cooper the legends final managerial decision was genius as Cooper begun give Wales problems ,penalty awarded even tho substitute players had confidence in Cooper to face one best GK in World Nevile Southall who dived correct way but such was Coopers precise finish under huge pressure he tucked it away Fans many Celtic went wild chorus of "Theres Only One Davie Cooper" big Jock collapsed but his final management decision was pure genius .Both Legends again United gone ,never forgotten NEVER WILL WE SEE THEIR LIKES AGAIN Two true footballing Legends that brought Old Firm together to pay their respects Green White knotted loose but tight ,strong with emotions with Blue White scarfs of the Old Firm .Both sets fans lined the streets to pay homeage ,say thankyou and farewell RIP .

can be argued he was a better player at motherwell than he was at Rangers.
Maybe not so much pace wise, but skill and intelligence wise you could sure make a case
