Sorry out of topic but @filmento, can you do Major Grom: The Plague Doctor. I enjoyed the film but I'm interested on how you see it. I've been learning so much from your channel, now I see movies a bit more with depth! Thank yooou!!
@mintysquinty not sure what chekhov is but yes the fact that he didnt even win his big fight was dissapointing to say the least, i at least hope we see more of this character
@@jjoestar385 Chekhov's Gun is a storytelling principle that states if you show a gun to the audience in act 1, the gun should be used in act 3. Basically it means if you include certain details in your story, you need to make those details meaningful and not waste the audience's attention. It's kind of a betrayal to the audience when you seem to set up something but never deliver a payoff.
@@jjoestar385 His big fight was defeating his own ego. As an eastern european I think he's meant to represent the downfall of the prideful soviet union as well as a person who likes to "live in his glory days". By the end he realises that his problem is not NOT having the right feelings, his problem is not communicating those feelings. I feel like it's a good message, especially for men.
It was hard to get invested in a story where there was not a single thing at stake. Characters were surviving falls from great heights, massive explosions without even breathing hard. Also, if it had been released chronologically I think it would have much stronger.
Exactly! Every thing that could mortally harm was deflated by the fact that I knew she survived and then died in Endgame She fell from a building? She's not supposed to die yet Lost a fight and gets locked up? Well, she gets out because she's just fine in IW
Yeah, like bro Black Widow doesn’t have powers in the MCU, so the types of falls that these characters took would probably kill them, it’s an inconsistency
@The ABC Jug Band The problem is being a "normal" human is kind of Widow's gimick. Yet her she is doing the near impossible and making it look easy. Spiderman would be impressed with her abilities. Not to mention she just beats Taskmaster down like a cheap trick in the end. No reason she can suddenly win, she just does. The Villian who's supposed to be able to learn any martial art instantly from watching it once. That seemingly was behind the entire Black widow program and knows every move she'd make... lost like a chump.
Even if one of her family members died, who cares since she couldn't be damned to mention a single one of em by name in the whole of the mcu before now? Must not have been that relevant to her is what that says, so the movie team didnt have that as a tool either
The Avengers Movies made Natasha seem so interesting and mysterious. What pain was she carrying? What happened to her in her past? How does she have no one who really cares for her yet she can be such a charming character who is obviously beautiful. They release this movie and killed all the interest I had for this character. Amazing.
Well that’s kinda ignorant on your part.black widow is an amazingly written character in the comics might I add you shouldn’t depend your interest in the movies when they, most of the time aren’t accurate.
maybe this is a dumb idea but maybe a villain in a sci-fi suit that lets them change their appearance to look like other people is the way to do spy thriller combined with superhero sci-fi that has given up on justifying itself? There could be tons of tension from this like superpowered person in a supersuit being able to like holographically or whatever turn into anyone they want. Is that old lady outside feeding the birds a little too alert for an old lady? Is it just me or has that jogger ran past us three times in two minutes? Hey why are you in the kitchen didn't you just leave? I feel like that might be a way to blend the genres and make a product greater than the sum of its parts
I get the felling taskmaster isn't supposed to hide, he's supposed to be a fire-and-forget weapon that has to kill the target at any cost, i mean what the hell will people do about him? send police? retaliate by attacking the red room? the fact is that unlike a typical bond villain, red room director made themselves basically untouchable, he's a bond villain that has long since won and feels invincible
In a way, this explains why the Punisher and Daredevil only got TV shows. Neither can be turned into a bombastic Marvel film without losing what they are.
Also a floating building in the sky is not “above the radar” it’s right where radar looks. “Below the radar” is the common phrase because when you get close to trees, buildings and hills radar gets confused. Right in the clouds is a big ol’ dot on a radar screen.
I found it hilarious that in the first Thor, SHIELD found Thor’s hammer in about two days, but nobody could find the giant sky station twice the size of the Helicarrier for over twenty years
God that one stung. You’re telling me not a single plane passed by, or a single person looked up and saw a fuck-all sized borderline space station in the sky

One of the reasons why I love the Ant-Man movies is they are part of a connected universe but also hold their own as individual movies without constantly hitting you over the head with "Avengers".
@Stuff already starting to see it fizzle out with Black Widow and even their Shang Chi, usually you'd see ads blasted everywhere for Marvel movies, I didn't know this Shang Chi was a thing till the other week, personally there is no hype around it. Its great that other people are hyped about it but I'm happy to wait till it shows up on stream platforms without the premium.
Definitely agree. Ant-Man is honestly one of my favorite standalone MCU films. It did a very good job staying grounded in its own story, and it was also just a really good film.
@@dobbear Their TV shows are much better than their movies as of now. They actually build characters and help set up the future while still being their own thing.
I’m gonna get flak for this, but I have to say it. Taskmaster and Draykov’s daughter should have been different people. Taskmaster should have been a merc hired by Ross to take out rogue Avengers, like Nat, and Draykov’s daughter should have manifested as a ghost of guilt that Nat carries. As we’ve seen in the past Avengers movies, Nat has huge emotional baggage as a result of what she did as a Russian spy. Draykov’s daughter could have appeared as an apparition to force Nat to truly face her past and forgive herself for what she did. Lastly, this movie should have been released after Civil War (the timeline of the movie). It would have given more emotional weight to losing Nat in Endgame.
Said like some one who doesn't know how much of a pain in the ass it is to get the green light for movies. You can look at the history around the movie, there was basically no way to get it done before exactly right about now, pre-production didn't even start until 2019. Obviously it can't fit into the timeline where it released, but also this entire phase is all about exploring the greater timeline. Loki being a prime example. This movie sets up Nat's timeline through the MCU pretty tightly. That one time in Budapest being the only real gap we haven't seen on the big screen. Taskmaster works perfectly fine. It's very much the type of thing a control freak like Draykov would do. She also is still alive, so can be reused in the future. Then we have Loki, so Taskmaster variants can also show up in the future.
@@gaberielpendragon What do you mean? They definitely could’ve made a Black Widow movie sooner. The only thing that held Marvel back from doing that was Marvel itself.
@@heyisubbed I see you haven't spent any time reading up on the production history of Black Widow. Or taken any time to consider that Draykov's entire program was to make Black Widows. All of them are Black Widows.

We never found out why that first Widow got her hands on the red stuff that frees their mind and why she ran away rather than exposing the rest of the widows to it in the Red Room
They do kinda mention it, she was a widow one generation before Melina's, she got out bc the conditioning at the time wasnt as advanced, hence both Melina and Natasha not being lifelong widow puppets, this first widow actually worked on the red thing in order to free the new generation widows like Yelena whose conditionings were biochemical. It would have been nice to see who she was working with tho, bc it seemed like she was just doing it on her own and had no backup plan if she was ever found.
There was so much exposition, they should have just made a movie about BW growing up. Imagine if instead of talking about all she went though, you actually saw her training and how she got so distant from Yelena. Then knowing BW dies and they never make up hurts more. I was really interested in the intro because it was a side of Marvel we never saw before. I wanted to see how Yelena and BW’s relationship was affected to the point that BW never mentions her to the Avengers. I wanted to see how BW got out and joined SHIELD, and what she had to sacrifice. I want to see Yelena start hating SHIELD because they took her sister away. Instead, we get storytime with BW
I've got an even better scenario - Natasha befriends the director's daughter, gives her a gift-wrapped box saying it's for her father and has the daughter deliver the bomb.
“Everyone will hate me for saying negative stuff about the film.” Nah, all the youtubers I watch, even MCU fanboys, have all been like, “It’s only ok.”
Basically it does nothing special and even if you binge watch the marvel movies there is no reason to ever watch it again. IT has less impact on the MCU than even Captain Marvel.
Yeah it's ok, I don't see any real reason to completely hate it but it's okay, I couldn't see myself watching it again is it a 9 or 8 out of 10 no, it's like a 6.9 or solid 7, my expectations of stuff is not that high, the last time I was disappointed was when I watched the Snyder cut and how everyone kept saying how it's so good and I was so disappointed.

yeah and if i'm being honest the stakes were lackluster if there were any at all as we all know that she will die in Endgame, it makes the stakes of her choices and actions non existant as we know she would survive no matter what. Of course her family could have died but when looking at it this movie should have came out either after Captain america civil war of before endgame.
1:24 That's just not how explosions work, she should have died several times over from an explosion like this at point blank range, it feels MCU people "just forgot" that Black Widows don't have super powers 🤔
What about when she fell 10 storeys then got up like it was nothing "Tis but a scratch" 😒 Edit: I watched that scene again, she actually landed on her feet 😭😭
Nothing about Natasha's background was really disappointing. No explanation how she escaped the Widows or what she was forced to do while she was there. "Movie wants to use the emotion of a dark topic without ever actually touching it" Sounds like a recurring issue in most MCU films. And other Disney films.
@@mr.stuffdoer8483 And by "get into the dark topics" you mean "dip their fingers then run away"? Cause they sure as hell don't spend more than 1 minute talking about it before moving on to the next joke or CGI fest. Black Panther is by far the worst of them. They repeat the issue regarding black slavery and other related topics (though for some reason only the American problems are relevant somehow, just ignore the problems of 1 billion African people around Wakanda) throughout the film, and then they're like "we're gonna reveal Wakanda to the world and that will somewhat end racism or something", and then they build some apartments in Oakland (?) and then they all die in Infinity War, so they won't have to touch this topic for a few more films at least. It's superficial because there's no weight to their actions, no proper payoff, just the mention of a dark topic, then back to status quo. And hell, Killmonger's story could have been replaced by T'Challa seeing the bad racist stuff by himself instead of being told by someone else and it won't change much (not saying it should, I'm saying you could replace his backstory with something else and not change that much). But that would require Disney to actually touch on serious topics instead of just pretending they care for anything but our money.

The best way I can describe this movie is "It feels like a sequel to a movie we wanted but never got". Imagine how much better this movie would have been if it was a sequel. If the first movie was seeing Natasha and her upbringing in the Red Room and her going on missions, seeing her internal conflict or lack thereof due to how she was practically brainwashed, until she's stopped by Clint then recruited by SHIELD. She then goes on to have the mission in Budapest and then forced to make the controversial and morally challenging action of bombing the building with Dreykov and his daughter inside, seemingly killing them both. We then lead into Nick Fury approaching her for the mission against Loki in The Avengers (2012) Now, we have the second black widow movie in which we have already paid respect to her character and can follow up on this and introduce Yelena (the movie as is is a passing of the torch to her). We see Nat on the run following Civil War, trying to stay safe and out of the public eye. We get rid of the scene of Task Master being sent on the mission so when he shows up it's more of a shock (also, just make it not Task Master please... I don't care that they genderswapped her except that it was so forced and the fact that the Task Master is played by a man whenever the mask is still on lol. But don't waste the character making her just another victim and then also reducing the impressive skills of a photographic memory for fighting to being tech based. You can still have Dreykov's daughter be a masked villain going after Natasha). Then cut to Yelena being ruthless and killing and going on her missions when she gets introduced to the gas or dust or whatever that frees her from the control, but don't show the results of it just yet. That way, there's actually suspense when Yelena and Nat fight as we don't know already what the gas did to her, and can have Yelena explain it to Nat (instead of what we got which was seeing the gas free Yelena and then her having to ALSO explain what we just saw to Nat). When Yelena reveals to Nat that the Red Room is still active and that Dreykov is still alive, there is a sense of tension and shock as we all thought we saw Nat kill him and take down the Red Room in the last movie (unfortunately, what we instead got was a case of 'Telling' instead of 'Showing'). Blah blah the story progresses, the get the Red Guardian out (and, unlike in the movie we did get, he's not just reduced to a walking joke that only exists for comedy). We meet with Melena and Nat is suspicious right away. Build up the tension as Yelena and Alexei bond. Have Melena reveal she already contacted the Red Room and then don't cut away right away, let the scene sink in. Blah blah they get captured and brought in to the Red Room and the twists are revealed. Let Alexei actually handle his own against the Task Master instead of getting clowned on and needing Melena to save him. The story progresses and we get Task Master revealed as Dreykov's daughter, now it actually has a meaning to us as we saw Nat bomb the building and supposedly kill her (but again, I would prefer it to not be Task Master, but I digress). From then, the story can progress the way it does and we end with Nat going off to join the Avengers with her new hairdo and vest. Bam.
I also think making the daughter mind controlled really ruins her character, because if anyone should have motivation to kill Natasha, it’s her. She’s already established to be different than the Widows, and is the daughter of the main villain. Not to mention that would explain why she’s not afraid to risk being exposed to the public or attacking an Avenger because she’s not motivated by hiding in the shadows and helping the Red Room, but getting revenge. Or they could just keep her as a sad mind controlled puppet with no character or motivations of her own. Which one do you think is better?
i prefer the revenge it made totally sense the whole mind controlling daughter is so bad, if he cared about her daughte rhe should have love her like father and daughter she could have been bigger role but ended up as a good guy in the end just like ghost from ant man 2 like wtf marvel?!?!? this aint steven universe like black widow saying “hey everyone she says sorry” wtf? female taskmaster is like spinel broken angry wanted revenge and later redeemed 🤬
They wanted to make a plot twist lol. A shocking revelation: the masked character was....the villain's daughter. Seriously, why not just make Taskmaster as who he originally was...Or, they could've used another character, even making up an original character ffs. They really used Taskmaster's character and the only detail of him they used was his ability to mimic fighting styles.
Honestly thought that the mind control cure wouldn’t work on her cause she wasn’t mind controlled, but they missed out on a fairly good opportunity to keep widow as a good guy it seems

@@florrie2303 yeah, I understand that part. But at least we wouldn't have known how Black Widow as a character would "end" in the MCU. No more Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, time to move on. I'm not saying placing the solo movie right between these giant blockbusters makes the most sense, but it would definitely have made Black Widows death a lot for meaningful (but yes, this doesn't help the solo film, I know).
You can still craft a prequel with high stakes though. Even if we know the ending, it's still possible to make it so in the moment we wonder how they make it out alive. Hell, even in most movies we know for sure that the hero is not just going to die, but some are so good at, just for a second, giving us a glimmer of doubt.
Tbh I don't think knowing someone's going to live takes away that much tension, as you pretty much know one of the main characters in a long running series is nearly guaranteed to survive anyways.
I didn’t really like the movie all to much. The pacing was really weird, the main villain was weak, Taskmaster was woefully mishandled and underused, and the movie felt fairly generic and pointless.

And please give a panel showing how her sexuality is a key part of Natashas character and not the fact that she’s literally a rogue defector from possibly the most well-trained assassin organizations.
What bugged me the most about this movie, is the action. I mean, it's a marvel movie sure, but the stunts and action that Natasha easily lives are just too much. Many stunts are even more brutal than anything that Steve Rogers has ever done and that dude is a super human, while Natasha is just an ordinary woman with some good fighting techniques. I can believe her falling of a bridge and living it, but falling down like 10 metres from a building, bouncing onto various metal-boxes and just walking away from it like nothing happened, is just too unrealistic. She's not wearing any cyber suit like tony or anything and she just lives it, while the other woman that fell from almost the same hight, couldn't move more than one arm. The movie is okay, but really should've been made for 2016 and not with that stupid post credit scene-lie, that Hawkeye is responsible for Natashas death. That really destroys the scene in Endgame. Both Natasha and Clint were eager about dying for one another to get that damn stone and now some random Woman accuses Clint for Natasha's death, when he was also ready to sacrifice himself?
The first act is great, but it declines from there. The 3rd act especially takes the movie down. Multiple "we had a secret plan all along" moments that reduce the tension, generic villain, bland final fight with a building falling from the sky.... It also makes Natasha's arc in Endgame feel lesser than it was, because the Avengers aren't her only family. She had Yelena, her "parents" and a group of 20 Widows. No way all of them got dusted in the snap.
If marvel can conveniently keep all original avengers alive after the snap, why can't they dust those 3 ppl from black widow?? She only met the other widows once. I don't know much that makes a person family
@@nevinnful I can get it if the 3 people get dusted, that's somehow statistically realistic. I agree. After this movie, it really showed how insignificant Black Widow's arc was in the MCU. The first act had me exckted- "Oh shit, we might actually get darker moments in an MCU movie. This's gonna be different. " Nope. As much as I hate this criticism, this movie proves at least for now, things are getting formulaic. The reason I got attached to the MCU wasn't because of the levity and humor, it was the sentimental character moments. The moments I felt loss, anxiety, and cried for this characters. Black Widow and Taskmaster feel wasted. Also, the movie didn't really play a significant role into anything whether it be for a post-Endgame world like the shows or create the Dark Origin that creates sympathy and allows us to feel proud of how far Natasha has come. WandaVision made Infinity War hurt more. Helped me realize just how much I was misunderstanding Wanda. Her relationship with Vision tops Cap and Peggy because of it. I understand that Marvel is family-friendly, but I think most people who watch are ready for more mature themes like grief, racism in our society, or something that relates with us. I still have hope as things are moving forward with the MCU, but this isn't a great Phase 4 movie start if you ask me
@@nevinnful It still makes it feel less impactful. Like the line, "did she have family? she had us". That doesn't mean much now because she actually has a family. And now Hawekye being in trouble because of Natasha feels like she didn't really sacrifice herself to help him.
How? If anything it gives some more impact, because now the MCU-only’s saw the extent of Natashas work/“sins”. It only developed her character and gave it more after effect. Granted, it could’ve been released BEFORE IW/Endgame, but the effect stays.

They highlighted the one of her sins because it tied right back into the movie with taskmasters reveal and it creates a stronger connection to dreykov. To randomly show her shooting some random people and doing other sinful things would seem random and wouldn't connect back into the story.
“Little girls are forced to become slave super soldiers through lifetimes of physical, psychological and emotional force, much like Bucky Barnes. We get a tie-in to the MCI without beating us up over it. Cool! So we’re gonna get a compelling story about women fighting against their conditioning while illustrating through their conflict that life isn’t black and white but shades of grey. A great metaphor reinforced by the greys shown at the start of the movie. Looks good! I am in!” *Sees how a lifetime of conditioning gets erased by a plume of magical red pixie dust.* “…what…the…actual…fuck….”
Yeah, Winter Soldier did it first and so much better. This movie could have been a chance to show us the trauma these kinda characters endured which was something not shown in Winter Soldier, we just saw the consequences, but instead we got a intro montage and a copy/paste of Winter Soldier. So much wasted potential.
Waited 10 Years for a mediocre film, the only thing I liked about it was Natasha and Yelena's relationship the opening and prologue everything else was halfassed.
They could have also played off that the Superheroes aren't that big of a Superheroes, like yeah, they defeat the big gigantic space invaders, but where is their organization and commitment to stop something like the Red Room. Could've shown off all the black widows being bitter againts the whole Avengers and SHIELD organization, because in a universe where literal Gods exists, they just turned a blind eye because of their petty personal squabbles and basically allowed a tonelade of little girls to be kidnapped and indoctrinated. We could go deeper into the weight of morality and responsability or something like that, but... Nah. Let's joke about Black Widow's pose when landing.
My favorite parts of this movie, like most marvel movies, is the banter between the characters and their interactions. When they all finally meet together as a family, it was one of my favorite scenes in marvel movies. It was funny, deep, and very relatable. I'm pretty sure that scene alone is why I like the movie so much.
Black Widow literally fall like 70 feet, get ragdoll inside a car explosion, get beat up by 20 assassins and fighting in the air with debris falling and then survive with a minor injury and small wounds
and i went jogging for the second time in a week after not having jogged for 2 years. , tripped and broke my ribs. these things movie heroes survive these days with hardly a scratch is getting insane
While the Pheromone plot is silly, the solution gets sillier. The Fact that Natasha severed her olfactory nerve(By smashing her nose lol),means she would never be able to smell anything the rest of her life
@@carakelra they movied it by saying they needed to see the operating tablet/interface doodad. Would've prefered in-nose nose-plugs with her playing along until she found it. Or having the chip installed in her by her "mother" and having that sense disabled.
She could just return with a breathing mask or something. Hell, she could have just put tape on her nose, this pheromon fail-save seems incredibly weak and easy to circumvent.
I was pretty upset with the taskmaster twist. I Thought having the daughter end up as taskmaster felt cheap like a cheap "WOAH" kind of twist. I think it would have worked better if Drekov didn't survive the explosion, but his daughter did. As she grows she learns about his work and sees him as a sort of martyr. So by the time she's older she has effectively taken over the project and is hammering down even harder for no widows to escape because the one that did killed her father and severely disabled her. Since she's so disabled too, this could be where TaskMaster comes in as his own character. and isn't just a weak twist that came out of nowhere for no real reason.
I think the TaskMaster twist would have been salvagable if they'd also made it in the final fight that the reveal was she was only person going along willingly with her father and the cure did nothing to her.
I've been saying this since I saw it: the movie starts great but fails to stick the landing. It's not bad, but it's not nearly as good as it *could have* been
You know they mjght need to do a better job with their writing hires when they have to resort to homaging their own films from less than a decade ago. Great, make a spy thriller like that older movie, but have the balls to try to do something different and genuinely interesting.
Pretty much. Except Winter Soldier actually felt like sone spy stuff was happening, and it took itself seriously. Black Widow was trash because it followed the typical Marvel formula of being a comedy movie.
I think my biggest gripe was in the beginning when Natasha's car gets hit by a freaking RPG, flies across a bridge and sustains no structural damage and most of the windows are unbroken. You can get hit by a car going 30 mph with more damage. Not even counting the fact that she would have been super dead
This movie fails as an MCU movie, too. I'm a big MCU fan and I didn't like this movie. It answers no questions it brings up, and fails at everything Winter Soldier succeeds at.
@@maxdrags3115 I stated an opinion that people can agree or disagree with, and in the end I can only speak for myself. To answer your question, I feel Black Widow fails as an MCU movie because it doesn't add anything to the larger world. I can't think of any concept introduced here that'll return in any way. Aside from Yelena, and possibly Red Guardian, I can't see how or why any other character would return. Most other MCU movies know what they are trying to be, and have a cohesive plot. Black Widow is incoherent, full of holes, and doesn't answer any questions brought up by the plot. The MCU has emphasized it's main heroes, showing us why we should care about them when introduced, and adding new layers in subsequent appearances. The movie succeeds introducing Yelena, but fails to give Natasha any new development or a satisfying conclusion to her story. Not all MCU movies do these things perfectly, but I think Black Widow doesn't deliver when other entries mostly do. If you think Black Widow succeeds on these points, great. If you want a more detailed answer, I did make a full review ua-cam.com/video/vTvIxDmjSWo/v-deo.html
@@theloveablemadman5734 It doesn't need to add anything to the larger world. You already lost the argument. The MCU is a vague term, no movie in the MCU need to be connected to the bigger world. It is supposed to be a Black Widow story, not an MCU story. Simple as that...
What upsets me is that the inner demons plot was done almost perfectly in Bucky's story in Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Here she was ok with the fact she killed a little innocent girl, but only when she finds out the girl was actually alive she starts feeling guilty. What the hell?!?
It could've work if she was telling herself the girl was collateral damage but actually feeling tortured by that memory, to then when she has to face that demon she realizes that running from it and lying to yourself is not the way to go, but the *movie handles it really poorly and it feels rushed
@@thebatman. I couldn't agree more. Age of Ultron may have its own mistakes, but it did so much better in showing Natasha's past, mostly because the atmosphere was way better there.
In theory, a rather interesting spy thriller could be made from a solo film about Black Widow, but in the end we got a typical Marvel movie. The only thing that I can single out from the advantages of the film is: the intro, the first 20 minutes and Elena Belova performed by Florence Pugh, she is beautiful and I look forward to her in future projects, a worthy replacement for Natasha. Anything about this moive afeter first 20 minutes goes wrong (villian, plot, etc.) And the film itself is bad, although it could be better.
Also, another movie that beat it to the draw was Red Sparrow. I dont know if you saw that movie but that was something that Black Widow should tried to have been, if it wasn't for Disney's leash.
I told my buddy the same thing you said here ...this movie just explains Black Widows downtime and felt more like a Yelena hype train. If we are doing a Black Widow origin story what are we doing 21 years so far in her career.. where is the red room? How did it start? Who did she train with? Why is she the way she is? All we got was Yelena owning the movie with killer lines and im like oh this must be here origin story she's the Black Widow we are addressing here
I WISHED they would've used elements of the red room that they established in Agent Carter, it's grounded, they used innocent things like disney movies, dormitories, the school-like setting, etc or even that red room scene in Age of Ultron. THAT is the red room that interests me, I was so excited to see the red room in Black Widow but was disappointed when it wasn't the dark psychological aspect of things, instead we got a CGI monstrosity of an aircraft and pheromone locks and shit... The movie was okay but I was expecting more since Natasha's story through out the other movies is so interesting. I was disappointed but still cried at the sight of her.
Imagine if Taskmasker used the face changing mask. It would create a sense of dread. You don’t know who or where she is and you don’t know how she could kill you. It could be anyone doing basic everyday things. A pizza delivery guy could have placed a bomb at the doorstep of the house you just walked by. And it would make the reveal of the mother having these masks so much more tense. You could have a member of the family be abducted and Taskmasker posing as them. I don’t know anything about writing, so I am not trying to say that I could have done it any better. I think that the movie is pretty good, but I was a bit let down, because of the wait.
OMG yes! This idea made me stop scrolling, someone who can mimic people's actions/mannerisms (and even in the comics, sound like them) just by watching them for a few minutes now can also look like them? I'd sign up for that

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it But they just had to “fix it” They made it an x men origins wolverine deadpool character Mindless killer, and it really shows
*Stranger things season 1* was *more than capable* of making the audience understand the abject horror of stealing/experimenting on little kids-without making it gory and keeping it “suitable” for a younger audience.
Taskmasters introduction was so forced. The box with the antidote was literally sitting in an empty trailer for idk how long but as soon as Natasha shows up now all of a sudden they come for it.
I agree with his assessment of this movie. The movie had the potential to be great and they made it poorly. They had the tools such as good acting, special effects and proven main character available to them, all they had to do is create a good storyline and they failed miserably. I don’t know how you could set them up for success any better and yet in my view they still managed to fail.
It was kinda painful to watch Black Widow being so different in this movie ,she almost feel like another person. During most of the MCU she was funny, charismatic, and seductive, but not anymore. That was a terrible way to say goodbye to an iconic character.
i agree and i wonder why know one else mentions this.... the black widow in this movie felt like a COMPELETLY different character than every other mcu move its weird
“Female Taskmaster is stronger than the male version in the comics!!” Yep.. so strong, you only got to play the character when they had their mask off and not doing any fighting 😂😂
Who said that? I haven’t seen anyone say that, at least not seriously. I mean shit, nearly all the 616 version of the MCU characters are way more powerful, I think Black Widow even has some kind of variation of the super soldier serum in the comics.
Among the several marvel flaws this movie has, I also feel that the chemical antidote was introduced out of nowhere. No setup, no foreshadowing and it’s an integral component to the plot.
I feel like the only reason it got as positive of a response as it did was because people were Marvel-starved after the pandemic and the 2 year stretch where there were no Marvel movies released. I think it would have been the lowest reviewed Marvel movie of all time if it had come out in 2016, when it's set. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad movie by any means, it's just so sub-par for a Marvel movie and doesn't really feel like a spy movie.
Who said it was a spy movie? I'll wait you dumb kid... And let me guess, it had no giant magical and destructive fights, and that's what makes it sub-par? Yea, be quiet.

Red Guardian deserved at least one decent fight scene. I hope they give him something. Id like to see him meet that other old super soldier and have them pull off something they shouldn't be able to at their age. If written well it could be great

@@mrdaddymeosky6292 It's called muscle mimicry. The ability to learn any physical task instantly by watching someone do it once. It's a badass power and was completely wasted in this film
when u look at it the movie is quite similar to winter soldier just worse- an antagonist from the hero's past who's been brainwashed, third act takes place in a flying fortress, the hero breaks through to the antagonist with the power of friendship (here chemicals) and even the introductory scene with task master feels like the winter soldier attacking nick fury scene
The first movie should be about the Budapest arc, that story about Hawkeye not killing her and Natasha joining Shield. And this one that's now on theathers should be Black Widow 2
Absolutely. Also, there should've been a Black Widow 3, set between IW and Endgame, focussing on Nat & Steve leading The New Avengers, running concurrently with the Ronin storyline and setting up Thunderbolts.
It should be only one movie tbh, Budapest arc with Natasha taking the hard decision of leaving the Red Room then end with an after credit scene with Yelena looking at the tomb of Natasha with the other woman saying that Clint is the responsible of her dead after that continue the plot in the Hawkeye series and introduce Red Guardian in other movie with better plot and not just as a comedy relief.
Maybe that's why marvel wanted to release this movie after endgame, so that people will still be riding the ENDGAME HYPE TRAIN and naturally people would like this movie since nat died
The movies after Endgame (excluding Far From Home, which is sort of a prologue to Endgame in a way) are a solo movie for a dead character and 2 movies about new characters. That may have been a smart move back then, but the pandemic means they can't really use the Endgame momentum for these new characters. Yes, people won't call them "flops" during a pandemic, but you still want the general audience to grow with the new characters and like them.
I do think that the material would have been taken much more seriously by those and like they did with Winter solider they would have delved deep into the themes and I think that Taskmaster first of all would be tony masters and also would be a mystery like a ghost you see him once and I do think they would’ve had him as an actual threat they say he can copy anybodies body language, Way of fighting that shit is horror villain material and if the Russo’s did it, it would have taskmaster beating the shit out of Natasha and beating her by using her moves against her but then Natasha realising that she can’t beat him by fighting him they way she does but she has to use her surroundings to beat em.
@@pats3212 I'd say it's more on the writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely that wrote Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Infinity War and Endgame that we'd pay attention to. And while the sense of storytelling was clearly buckling down with Endgame given its many characters and ambitions, Black Widow (and Falcon and the Winter Soldier for that matter) can easily be written to have a smaller-scale impact in the context of the MCU which should help in allowing them to have a pared-down story similar to Captain America: The Winter Soldier to continue in their spy/conspiracy thriller genre. Because it's clear that Jac Schaeffer & Ned Benson (for Black Widow) and Malcolm Spellman, Michael Kastelein, Derek Kolstad (of John Wick and Nobody fame but it's clear that those films were good for their action and not their writing), Dalan Musson and Josef Sawyer (for Falcon and the Winter Soldier) aren't doing justice to the characters they're handling imo, at least within the MCU
They made us immediately care about her “family.” That’s also writing. A whole lot of movies fail to get the audience invested in the characters properly. Personally, I thought it failed at action more. We had all those hired guards at the end protecting maybe the most evil man in the world, and we didn’t get a cool fight scene with Black Widow. Super disappointing.
Sometimes you just want to enjoy a casual and fun spy movie. Not everyone's as uptight as you guys and Filmento. It's like walking into Goldeneye or one of those cheesy Roger Moore Bond film expecting high-art Michael Mann Heat-level masterclass. Get off your high horse. Oh, and you get a downvote. :)
The starting and middle parts were alright, the problem were the villains and their motivations, not many exciting hand to hand fights, the inconsistent tone and the bad cgi for some scenes like the Tank chase, the avalanche and the enemy jets.
I would actually suggest making a video on the harry potter franchise, Its actually extremely interesting, because none of the harry potter movies would make my list of top 5 movies ever, and yet, its my favourite franchise.. Idk about that because the books are just better than the movie. And it’s not the movies fault because it’s hard for a book to be translated into a movie. Some movies just completely change what happens in the movies than what happens in the books. Like goblet of fire was verrrry different than what it was in the book. There’s completely different directors with different visions for each movie too which can also be its own complication
I never thought I would find a "potterhead" being honest with his favorite franchise... To be fair, Harry Potter lore was built to be around the main characters, an understandable thing if we take in mins that Rowling started the story as something she told her kids and probably she was expecting they to be related.
Harry Potter is such a controversial topic at the moment, it would be throwing a bee nest up in the air to let it bonk you on the head. He's best staying away for at least another year or two.
I feel like what hurts the movie is definitely the ‘bad guys”. Taskmaster was nerfed, the widows barely had a screen time, and the main bad guy power was they could hurt him because he smelled? Also there was no point the the masked body guards (males?) why not just make them widows? Like an older bunch that completed their training instead of faceless henchmen.
they took this stuff of the scent out of a Black Widow comic. In the story this is much better developed, the smell makes her feel a very strong family love for the person, being unable to even think about harming the person while she is smelling the scent
Master was nerfed? They literally never lost a single fight. The only way to defeat them was to lock them away or use pixie dust. Did we watch the same film?
I dunno, Tony Masters is the same man who copied an Olympic highdive, only to realize upon hitting the water that he doesn't know how to swim. Don't get me wrong, Task Master is a badass, but he's also a bit of a dumbass
It would’ve been better if task master wasn’t controlled and when she used magic-no-control-dust it did nothing and Natasha actually had to face her demons…a little girl she burned and tormented her whole life that hates her and seeks revenge. But nope, it’s ok that she was fine with murdering her

It's superficial because there's no weight to their actions, no proper payoff, just the mention of a dark topic, then back to status quo. @@raidenstark315 YES! I always wanted to see exactly what happened in Budapest and when she worked for the red room, you’ve got great ideas 👍
@@therealfilmnerd i always think on ways to improve plots
The best way I can describe this movie is "It feels like a sequel to a movie we wanted but never got".
Imagine how much better this movie would have been if it was a sequel. If the first movie was seeing Natasha and her upbringing in the Red Room and her going on missions, seeing her internal conflict or lack thereof due to how she was practically brainwashed, until she's stopped by Clint then recruited by SHIELD. She then goes on to have the mission in Budapest and then forced to make the controversial and morally challenging action of bombing the building with Dreykov and his daughter inside, seemingly killing them both. We then lead into Nick Fury approaching her for the mission against Loki in The Avengers (2012)
Now, we have the second black widow movie in which we have already paid respect to her character and can follow up on this and introduce Yelena (the movie as is is a passing of the torch to her).
Wow yeah that's actually such a good point
i prefer the revenge it made totally sense

They wanted to make a plot twist lol. A shocking revelation: the masked character was....the villain's daughter. Seriously, why not just make Taskmaster as who he originally was...Or, they could've used another character, even making up an original character ffs. They really used Taskmaster's character and the only detail of him they used was his ability to mimic fighting styles.
Honestly thought that the mind control cure wouldn’t work on her cause she wasn’t mind controlled, but they missed out on a fairly good opportunity to keep widow as a good guy it seems

But then it also seems like they expect us to believe that all 20 Widows got dusted as well, and that's where it becomes statistically unbelievable.
Because if even a few Widows survived the snap, then Natasha would've had another group she can go to and belong.
EDIT: Yes, she only met the Widows once, but she's basically their inspiration. Considering in Endgame she's desperate to have Captain Marvel and Rocket around, heroes she never met, you'd think having a group of people that look up to her would be where she decides to go.
@@magic75450 first of all, the widows were never her family. Even if someone from those widows survived, who is to say she didn't send few of them for different missions in those 5 years?

How? If anything it gives some more impact, because now the MCU-only’s saw the extent of Natashas work/“sins”. It only developed her character and gave it more after effect. Granted, it could’ve been released BEFORE IW/Endgame, but the effect stays.
@@jaypeterson1324 it showed 1 sin when in the MCU Natasha made it seem like she had plenty. @@kdawgmaster just because it showed 1 sin it doesn't mean that she didn't have plently. It wasn't like the movie was saying hey I did one bad thing. To randomly show her shooting some random people and doing other sinful things would seem random and wouldn't connect back into the story.

Yeah, Winter Soldier did it first and so much better. So much wasted potential.

Could be an alternate title, honestly.
Pretty much. Except Winter Soldier actually felt like sone spy stuff was happening, and it took itself seriously. Black Widow was trash because it followed the typical Marvel formula of being a comedy movie.
@@Tyler_W This was a soy movie? How was this in the spy movie genre??
I think my biggest gripe was in the beginning when Natasha's car gets hit by a freaking RPG, flies across a bridge and sustains no structural damage and most of the windows are unbroken. You can get hit by a car going 30 mph with more damage. Not even counting the fact that she would have been super dead
This movie fails as an MCU movie, too. I'm a big MCU fan and I didn't like this movie. It answers no questions it brings up, and fails at everything Winter Soldier succeeds at.
But honestly, I think it's better than Captain Marvel.
How does it "fail" as an MCU movie?
Get off your high horse kid, you don't get to define what an MCU movie is.

It is supposed to be a Black Widow story, not an MCU story.
Simple as that...
@R Coffee No it doesn't.
Yeah, they definitely should’ve lingered on her trauma more. Age of Ultron did more for that than Natasha’s own movie :/
I almost wanna rewatch this thing coz that opening bit was rather good. I was hooked up until the the red cgi dust showed up
Also, another movie that beat it to the draw was Red Sparrow.

When the power generator died, I felt tension because I was expecting enemies to come out at any moment. When the missile hit the car, that was totally unexpected for me. But, I agree with what you're saying; there was a lack of proper buildup in the whole movie
If i would need to describe this movie with two words and describe politley, this words would be: "Wasted potential".
