Nice! The telephoto lense makes it real. It's hard for people who don't surf to appreciate how big these waves are and how fast. I"m so happy I fought all those years to save Ma'alaea from the boat harbor expansion; in person testimonies, protests, letters, phone calls. It was close, the Army Corp of Engineers was ready to start blasting, ruining the "world's fastest right" forever.

I have surfed there many times so mahalo! Question: did this spot exist before they created the harbor or was it the breakwater for the harbor that created this wave?

In 1977 my mom drop me off at a building not far from my dads business he was a photographer...or as likes ti say these day hes was 73 a papparatzi..i look at my mom whats this i said as im staring at a blank metal door an tall block building..she say its skateboard place...ever since i seen my first surfing comp on ABC Sports an i guy went down a pipe i was like that aint as easy as it looks my friend...living in jersey in the north...i dont think any pipe has ever sprung up at the jersey shore...may be during that last storm...but i didnt see much...look how big these waves are i cant believe someones out there oh yeah surfers...the once who know the weather better than the weatherman....is there waves yeah weathers petfect....

That wave rifles and I’ve seen it solid 6 foot and 2 guys on it, but no board cuz I had checked it earlier and was 4 foot and it needs at least 6 foot to really work.. These guys scored a very special thing 👍👍👍And there’s more swell in route 🤯

@@laughteraddict1003 Lotsa chest high days there in the summer. They are harder to make. The title says “decade” but this is the biggest by far that I have ever seen Maaleae break and I’m 66.

Some of the footage I’ve seen was taken with cellphone cameras. I’m hoping we will see footage taken with professional equipment in the next day or so. Other issue is that the air is misty cuz winds are nuking plus mist from the breaking waves.
The best spot to capture this wave is VERY far away from the waves. Its also low on the horizon. Therefore, you are going to get tons of distortion from water/mist in the air. Tough place to surf and tough place to film.
