When I was a child in the 70s and early 80s, growing up in the Middle East, Deputy Dawg was shown on TV every afternoon and was amongst my favourite cartoons.
A sophisticated satirical cartoon for kids. I used to watch Deputy Dawg as a youngin' and loved the cartoon and the characters and their southern dialect.
A dog's purpose..(like the modern day movie)..is to patrol a Southern swamp, in Florida and later elsewhere, with a Frank Fontaine voice and wear a fittng Dept.outfit.
I have worked in TV and film my entire life and now teach it. This is one of the funniest cartoons I have ever seen. Add in the political stuff and there is more truth in this than satire. Brilliant at every level. THANK YOU FOR THE POST!!!
I'm from the south there were the good old days when I was a kid watching those cartoons makes me proud of my heritage God bless the south in our Confederate flag
What exactly are you proud of, slavery, attempting to destroy the continental integrity of the United States of America or getting your asses kicked badly? Which?
@@batesvandenburgh4828 I guess you are a Yankee probably nothing you can say will make me not proud of my heritage God bless confederate soldier who died for it southern people have defended this country for hundreds of years to don't degrade us God blessed my ancestor that fought for it
@@waynesigmon5628 It’s true - except for a few years when they fought it. And for what? Alex Stephens, Confederate V.P., said it was for this: “The new constitution has put at rest, forever, all the agitating questions relating to our peculiar institution African slavery as it exists amongst us - the proper status of the negro in our form of civilization. This was the immediate cause of the late rupture and present revolution. Jefferson in his forecast, had anticipated this, as the "rock upon which the old Union would split." He was right. What was conjecture with him, is now a realized fact. But whether he fully comprehended the great truth upon which that rock stood and stands, may be doubted. The prevailing ideas entertained by him and most of the leading statesmen at the time of the formation of the old constitution, were that the enslavement of the African was in violation of the laws of nature; that it was wrong in principle, socially, morally, and politically. It was an evil they knew not well how to deal with, but the general opinion of the men of that day was that, somehow or other in the order of Providence, the institution would be evanescent and pass away. This idea, though not incorporated in the constitution, was the prevailing idea at that time. The constitution, it is true, secured every essential guarantee to the institution while it should last, and hence no argument can be justly urged against the constitutional guarantees thus secured, because of the common sentiment of the day. Those ideas, however, were fundamentally wrong. They rested upon the assumption of the equality of races. This was an error. It was a sandy foundation, and the government built upon it fell when the "storm came and the wind blew." Our new government is founded upon exactly the opposite idea; its foundations are laid, its corner-stone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery subordination to the superior race is his natural and normal condition. This, our new government, is the first, in the history of the world, based upon this great physical, philosophical, and moral truth.” Tell us about the pride?
That show makes quite a satire of Southern folks. They are sharp in their own right. Recovering from the war took way too long. It's all by the Grace of God.
At least the "Looser" flag didn't tax people beyond what they could pay, I'v seen more respect, kindness, and less racism from Southerners and Confederate supporters than Northerners.
If I was making this cartoon in 2022, when the "General" says "but I'm a Hollywood actor!", I would have the Old Rebel say: "That's even worse than a Yankee!"
Interesting. The "Groucho" character remarks he's gonna go to NY and work on TV. Well the real Grouch went from movies (Marx Bros films) to TV ("You Bet Your Life").
Great voice over work by Dayton Allen, he impersonated Groucho Marx perfectly. He was one of the great voice over actors back then, easily rivals Mel Blanc.
Deputy Dawg was my favorite cawtooon buddy; then he just wasn't to be found on NYC tv no more! I think he was a victim of forced intergration and political correctness.. hew haa!

They would do *anything* to distract from the cheap animation! There's a reason cartoons of this era were called "radio with pictures"! (Heck, the only reason Barney Rubble's voice in the Flintstones wasn't stolen from Art Carney's Norton was cuz H-B had *already* stolen that voice for Yogi Bear!)
"Cartoons of the era" includes both H-B *and* Terrytoons, just as "crappy comic book companies of the era" would include both Atlas *and* you, Charlton!
Dayton Allen did the majority of the voices. He was about as versatile as Mel Blanc. He imitated a lot of Hollywood actors. He made Lancelot Link sound like Humphrey Bogart. He acted also.

You are absolutely correct . This would not be allowed and the kids today wouldn't get it anyway.
Amen brother!
Wouldn't be aloud, politically incorrect!

Hilariously funny Deputy Dawg episode. This one is trully a great favorite of mine.

So so true!!
You won't see this on Cartoon Network.........
+Wayne Muldrow It's because Turner doesn't own those cartoons. Viacom and CBS do.
Actually, just CBS. Viacom can relase them to video and/or theaters via Paramount but, only the behalf of CBS.
the left rewrinting history??
The newer stuff on Cartoon Network is complete garbage. I'll stick with the old classics.
"Grayne lumbah."
A good piece of satire.
Alec Baldwin's oopsie daisy, animated.

Weren't those live rounds shot at DD?
Why are there so many bullets being fired from the riffle?
How come a dog can talk, wear clothes and act as a sheriff's deputy?

This story, where the old-timer and Deputy Dawg get the wrong idea, is NOT FUNNY! It's frustrating!
Donald Trump dissaproves of this video because lack of realism - why didn't that guy in Vegas ever get a chance to see this?
Isn’t anyone going to complain about racist stereotyping?
No, I thought not.
I mean "confederate" and "Southern" aren't really a race, so...
