Hey, some corrections :) The Apple Pippin launched in 1996 in japan, not 1998. And the european model wasn't sold by Apple, it was licenced to a company named Katz Media and it was called the Katz Media Player 2000, its a black device instead of the white. This version wasn't sold at all though. They wanted to lease it to hospitals, nursing homes, hotels and so on with a monthy subscription and internet package, but never did. Similar like this Karaoke Wii U you have from japan. It's by far the rarest model of the Pippin and the handful devices that are still out there, were probably givin to old apple employes in Ireland (where it was build) or some people just took it without asking. Because Steve Jobs shut it down and the european model never hit the market because of this in 1997. Some workers from that time even stated, they had to destroy the first batch that was built in ireland because Jobs didn't want them to leave the factory

A Store owner in canada, one guy in germany and one in ireland. The irish dude said his dad worked at apple when they produced it and this is how he got it somehow. From his information they only manufactured like 400 devices before they stopped again. This checks out with another source that mentioned 500-100 devices max for europe, making it one of the rarest consoles ever made (except for something like the Pluto of course, but I mean actually started production wise). It's kinda cool that apple didn't manage to destroy all of them, would be a shame if they were all gone. Even if it's probably impossible to ever get it. I have only seen it on ebay one time in france years ago, without controllers, not even in good shape and the listing still went for over 18.000 Euros I think 😵

I've a possible future topic, what does the future hold for retro consoles because nowadays each generation of kids only plays the latest thing so has no nostalgia for the old stuff like we have so when we die will our consoles just die with us?
Whilst the consoles will eventually become more and more obscure the fact that there are so many retro compilations out there fir modern systems means that many of the games we grew up with as kids will pass on to the next generation, much as classic cartoons have too.
As a kid of the 2000's, when Disney had the Power Rangers license, the show was really popular with my demographic still, kids my age LOVED Ninja Storm, Dino Thunder and SPD. However when they sold the IP back to Saban, it started going to hell
I also would say that ever since the rise in popularity of Japanese Media in the west in the late 2000's More and more people have started to become aware of what a "Super Sentai" is and what Tokusatsu is as a medium among other things so for some, PR is a relic of a bygone era where we had to "adapt" and "americanize" a foreign property
The series fell off hard during Operation Overdrive if not before which is why Jungle Fury was intended to be the last season but Disney was contractively obligated to make RPM so they did. Even under Saban the series fell off after MMPR season 2 and only survived because In Space and Lost Galaxy came out during the late 90s sci-fi boom Star Wars' resurgence caused but it fell right back into decline with Lightspeed Rescue. And most people still have no idea what Toku is outside of Godzilla and Power Rangers. PR ended because it was a 90s fad that only kept going because it was cheap and it was all Saban and Bandai had at the time.
Hey Adam, I just wanted to let you know that you've inspired me to revisit old Sega consoles and games. I got a Saturn not terribly long ago as well as a bunch of import games and other accessories. I had a Saturn as a kid, but sold it at a garage sale my parents had years and years ago. It's been fun collecting and playing retro Sega!

Multiverse of Madness is awesome, I'm a huge Sam Raimi fan, and it was basically an Evil Dead film disguised as an MCU film, but if you don't care for Evil Dead, let alone Sam Raimi outside of his Spiderman films, then I can see why MoM didn't work for you. I thought it was a fun film, but I understand why it might not vibe with people when you consider it didn't really set up anything for future MCU stuff.
Amiga CD32 is Mororola 68EC20, so a powerful, 32-bit version of the Mega Drive, Mega CD, Neo Geo type system. Pippin is IBM Power PC, so depending on the graphics hardware, it's more akin to the Gamecube, but previous gen, I'd expect. I've never looked at the detailed hardware spec, but I'll go take a look - if it's IBM Power PC based. The GPU is the huge question. If it was late enough to have a decent ATi card in there, it could have been a serious contender, had it launched - but I doubt it does. It was a transitional time in the industry, and it's CRAZY that no console had the 3DFX chipset. That would have been the huge one. That was nearly Dreamcast. edit: 'Pippin has no dedicated graphics or sound processors.' Dead. PPC 603 @66MHz, and 6MB RAM. It beats the PlayStation for RAM and CPU, but for sprites, scrolling and 3D, it's garbage. It's a 'better' version of the 32X with plenty of RAM and a CD-ROM drive. 32X had the Sega library and a Mega Drive to move things around on the screen. It also used a pair of Hitachi SH2s, rather than a PPC, but they're both 32-bit RISC systems entering a crowded, competitive gaming market with no GPU to speak of.
God I pray some company can pick up power rangers and do something good and popular. It feels wrong for it to just die. It should work but like, no one tries...
On the contrary it fails when people do try because it has no actual mainstream appeal outside the first two seasons. When Saban, Disney and Hasbro actually sunk money into it it didn't return the investment.
Honestly, just keep the Power Rangers franchise as just comic books and toys only. The show has run its course, and honestly, with the lore and timeline of the franchise, it makes for way better comic book fodder. Plus they can go way darker or way lighter with it if they want to.
Captain America would have had to travel back across the Quantum Realm using the Stark Tech and Pym Particles, once he got old. The Stark tech is the 'GPS'. The Pym Particles are needed to shrink and access the Quantum Realm. The timelines are fine in Engame, according to the rules. It's just confusing to the layperson. Problem with Phase 4 was that Chadwick Boseman died, and the pandemic & Disney+ turned everything into a complete mess. A Black Panther & The Avengers vs. Kang, with the emergence of Galactus & Dr. Doom phase 4-5 could have been special. Deadpool & Wolverine is a very good movie, but it'll take more than that to fix things.

It's going to be interesting to see how store closures work once PS3/Vita go down. Because after that th next systems to go would be... PS4 and Xbox One. But the foraward compailibilty thing of the PS5 and Series X throws a wrench into that given they are 99% compatible with games from those consoles.
Every sunseted storefront closes dude Sony will eventually close the PS3 one too. They'll be manufactured outrage and scaremongering from youtube game hoarders over "your stuff going away" * but most people will just shrug and go back to playing the PS5 and Switch. *This happened when the PSP, Wii and WII U storefronts closed.

According to ChaptGPT Apple had about 10-15% of the pc marketshare back in 1991. Point being Microsoft already had an invested interest in keep their gaming market share to themselves. As well the console space in the 90's and early 2000's was crowded. There was no room for Apple or the Pippin to be successful in gaming especially when they were almost going out of business, and lacked excess capital. The time if Apple where to make a big move in gaming would be right now. While Microsoft is struggling to sell consoles. The Apple TV isn't going to cut it. They have a ton of capital, and could actually take on Microsoft. However it would probably be a waste of time, and money. Since there is almost no console exclusives anymore for a reason. As well Microsoft doesn't appear to be giving up on console, steaming, or game pass at least yet.
Marvel should have just ended the MCU with Endgame. DC was doing good by ending universes and rebooting characters, even if they didn't end so well. At least they ended at some point. But then they screwed up with The Flash by bringing them all together. The Spiderman movies after endgame should have had nothing to do with the MCU, just have Tom Holland as Spiderman again. They could have starter a whole new marvel universe, one that perhaps focuses more on Spiderman and have him team up with the Xmen to really give us 80s and 90s kids some nostalgia. I think by that point it would have been good to focus on new characters in a way that we don't need to know who the Avengers from the MCU were. I think disney just has this mindset that they need every single character alive so that they could all be in 1 movie someday and they don't want to cut ties with their previous work regardless of how stupid it got.
Intersting point I will make since you broight up the Xmen movies. In Xmen Mutant Apocalypse, Gene Grey does use her pheonix powers, they awaken earlier in this timeline than before they changed things in Days Of Future Past. But then the final movie, The Dark Pheonix, they completely ignored that as if it didn't happen and she gets those powers by going to space. That ended up being worse than X3 The Lasr Stand in my opinion.
Imagine if the Pippin stuck around a bit. Originally Halo was meant to be played on Macs. It could have been on the Pippin 😂 And then maybe Halo would have remained an RTS game like it was originally intended. In this alternate universe I think Halo would have been a flop where nobody remembers that game at all.
