As a Taiwanese I can confirm and deny the ghost one. It is ONLY DURING THE GHOST FESTIVAL when people put out red envelops for deceased people. So yes, you can pick up red envelopes unless it is the ghost festival, which is only on Sept. 6.
The red envelopes on the ground in Taiwan may not necessarily be for ghost marriages, but may also be for exchange of luck. There will be hair, nails and some money in it. According to legend, the transaction must be successful if it is spent.

Im from chile and sometimes i eat with my hands, (you can depending if the owner of the House allows it, cause sometimes they let you or not, like chicken) but the sándwich we obviously eat it with our hands
As a chilean, ive never heard of this rule. No one eats sandwiches without their hands, or hotdogs, or french fries. Its not considered rude. Like, my fav food is hamburgers, and what do you expect? Me to eat it with a fork and knife? Or popcorn, i surely am going to eat it with a SPOON? Nah no one does that.
As a Chilean, we eat a lot of things with our hands. If you eat an empanada, a choripan, pizza, french fries, sandwiches, etc. with a fork and knife, you are weird. Unless you are in a fancy restaurant, and even then it's a bit weird. Sandwiches may be the exception, you eat those sometimes with a fork and knife in a fancy restaurant
As a Chilean, most of us eat empanadas, pizza, sandwiches and fries with fork and knife. The only acceptable exception is when you eat completos. Only in fast food restaurants like McDonalds you are “allowed” to eat with your hands. In fact, eating with your hands is widely seen as an uneducated behavior and it’s only normal between the “lower classes” and kids.
@@dddd-ddddd For YOU, but not others. Just because it’s not normal for you, it doesn’t mean it’s wrong. I’m sure there’s a lot things in Chile are considered or lower class behaviour and wrong in other countries!!
@@torch_warden8177 I'm from Chile and live in New Zealand. I've also been to the US, and when I go back to Chile, it surprises me how little hands are used-except for completos ofc.
The one in Japan is very true. It's very rude to walk and eat or drink or use your phone. in a busy place, you'll be running into people all over, and nobody will like you.
There’s no such rule-you can definitely eat and drink while walking. This misconception keeps getting passed from one foreigner to another. In fact, you’ll often see Japanese people walk out of a 7-Eleven with an open beer and head straight into the train station. Despite what some might think, trash cans are actually everywhere in Japan. You’ll find them in convenience stores, grocery stores, train stations, and public buildings. There are even recycling bins next to vending machines.
Glad to see I'll be able to enjoy Tokyo whilst enjoying my snacks as well! - On the other hand, compared to western countries, Japan has basically very little to no bins on the streets or outdoor spaces, which you would find every 30m in a western country.
@@gabrielquinterohoyos9151I would agree, because the ammount of times I've heard forigners from a country say it's so weird or confusing, is a little interesting, it's not that they are weird, it's that they are different, Japanese wouldn't even think that there aren't many bins on their streets, when it is in fact normal for them to have less then the western countries Another example of this is a personal experience lol, I never knew that *(as someone raised in the UK)* that british weather fluctuates alot until I heard the opinion of a forigner who wasn't raised here, and to be fair, I guess it isn't normal for it to be raining heavily for like 5 minutes and then all of a sudden it's really hot outside
That’s not true it’s only in your perspective that trash cans are everywhere in Japan. When tourists visit Japan, we are often shocked by how few trash cans there are in the streets of Japan
Hi Mike! Big Chilean fan here! We really don't mind if you eat with your hands, but there are only a few places where it's frowned upon, which are the more "affluent" places, we common people enjoy our food with our hands if necessary, like churrascos and completo! Greetings!
He obviously doesn’t know the full picture, but even common people care about table manners a bit more compared to other countries. I’ve noticed that forks and knives are used more often than other places even in the west.
@theploot8230 JAJAJAJA Why would you go to JAIL for eating a sopaipilla, made to be eaten with YOUR HANDS, with your hands? JAJAJAJA It would be pretty rude tho, what? Do you think you're better than us? Eating a sopaipilla with a fork? Should be a crime
Yeah I’m Chilean that info is completely false , compared to other countries I’d say the people here care even less I have no idea where he got that from
Thought about that immediately, Fun fact: chips were made as revenge when it was considered disgraceful to eat things with your hands. The revenge part was because a customer at a restaurant was complaining about the fries being too thick. (And thus chips were made, so the customer would have to eat with their hands)
Hi!! it is okay to eat or drink while walking. It is normal, both Japanese and foreigner. Some people are just very polite lol Edit 1: I forgot to include this but it doesn’t mean that you can eat outside everywhere and whenever you want, so follow the rules, some places prohibits to eat or drink even if standing
yeah but isn't it kinda more just drinking and not really eating if you're nott in front of the placce you bought the food at. I love Japan I was there last year and im gonna move there some day
Although this tradition is rare nowadays, but to my knowledge, you do need to go through a ceremony (not a western one, for what it's worth). That said, it's not as simple as "you pick up the envelope, you marry my daughter" though, but anything more than that isn't worth boring you if you're not interested in this topic 😂 I'm from Taiwan btw
Welcome to Japan! Eating and drinking while walking used to be considered rude. So elderly people like 70+ yo still don’t do that. For younger generation, it’s normal to do so. But in crowded places like Tokyo, you might bump into someone and end up getting clothes dirty so be careful.

I'm sorry, I might have gotten a little carried away here but I'mabsolutely still posting this, lmao. Random loose money, is one thing, and I wouldn't blame you at all. Taking off with this money, though, that you know is there for a very specific reason, would literally be stealing from grieving parents whos devastated faces would permanently haunt you, which would be so incredibly disrespectful and evil. I wouldn't feel bad for you for a second when your own guilt ridden subconscious plagues you with horrific nightmares that slowly lead to permanent sleep deprivation, which would quickly drive you to the point of madness, leaving you as nothing more than a hollow babbling mess, rocking in the corner of some asylum your family ditched you at after you repeatedly interrupted their sleep because you woke up screaming at least once every hour all night long from the nightmares every single night. I wonder if you would still think that small amount of money would still be worth stealing from grieving parents then?
In Japan you can walk and eat. There is word even called “tavearuki” which is word for eating and walk at the same time. But it is true that you should not through trash in a street and it doesn’t mean that you can through trash in a street in any country
Im from Chile, and I never heard of this "never eat anything with your hands" rule. Unless you're eating soup or rice or noodles something like that people wont look at you twice for eating something with your hands like say a pizza or a completo(hotdog with more stuff basically)

As a Chilean I confirm, it is disgusting to eat things like meat, noodles and other things with your hands, however things like hamburgers, fries and sandwitches are eaten with your hands.
Another food rule for Japan: Don’t eat in the subways, buses, or taxis, as it is also considered to be impolite. If you really want to eat something while you are outside, stand against a wall or sit on a bench and eat, then continue.
Convenience stores, supermarkets (look around at the entrance), a lot of train/subway stations will have bins as well and sometimes bins next to vending machines (only for cans and pet bottles). They're everywhere, they're just not in the streets.
@@Nullicity 90% of convenience stores have them. Exceptions might be in areas where they'd have too much trash to take care of because they don't have enough space. But if you ask nicely and your trash is small enough, they'll usually take it for you. I've been living for 15 years in Tokyo, so I know where to throw my trash on the go lol

@@onepunch5015
Nope, im chilean and it quite literally does not matter
It's really confusing to me why it's considered rude to eat with your hands

@@gabrielquinterohoyos9151I would agree, because the ammount of times I've heard forigners from a country say it's so weird or confusing, is a little interesting,
it's not that they are weird, it's that they are different, Japanese wouldn't even think that there aren't many bins on their streets, when it is in fact normal for them to have less then the western countries
Another example of this is a personal experience lol, I never knew that *(as someone raised in the UK)* that british weather fluctuates alot until I heard the opinion of a forigner who wasn't raised here, and to be fair, I guess it isn't normal for it to be raining heavily for like 5 minutes and then all of a sudden it's really hot outside
That’s not true it’s only in your perspective that trash cans are everywhere in Japan. When tourists visit Japan, we are often shocked by how few trash cans there are in the streets of Japan
Foreigners who all visit the 3 same places in Tokyo and now they're self proclaimed expert of the entire country of Japan.
When I was in Japan the only trassh bins I saw were ones for bottles but yes I can confirm it is normal to drink outside
