This is not a 100% fictional story, im pretty sure this is based on KAL 902 and KAL 007, a 707 & 747 who were shot down by soviet defenses, even the story of the Sukhoi pilot trying to convince his superiors to not shot down the plane is seeing here, however, the 902 only got 2 deaths (that came when the missile hit the plane), here pretty much everyone died, as the real 007 flight, so yeah, not entirely a recreation, but i can see some inspiration there
