    Just did this. This video is pure gold. Some notes for people who may have similar issues I had. The white plastic-teflon ring on pressure restrictor by the small O-ring already has a cross section in it. Don’t be terrified like I was that I cracked it. For the magnets part, I had an easier time opening and closing the valves by putting magnets on the tip of the solenoid pegs instead of down below next to them. Awesome video. Thanks for making it.

    Great vid! I like that it is all work (instruction) and no play. I don't have an e46 but I plan to get one. I like to know what I'm getting into and I've heard a lot of horror stories about the vanos.

    Could the vanos seals be bad without throwing any codes? Just thinking if it’s worth changing out the seals as I’m quite sure they’ve never been done on mine.

    Hey if we clean the Solenoids if they are not too bad then can we not just put that one back in?

    • @ShopLifeTV
      @ShopLifeTV  Рік тому

      Solenoids should be cleaned as shown in the video. The solenoid pack (black box) fails internally and can give you fault codes as well in which case you should replace with a new or refurbished unit

    Thank you - followed your instructions step by step this morning on My E46 - no part’s replaced - solenoids were barely clicking when I started - super smooth when I was done - SES light went out within a mile and car is idling smoother than ever! Keep up the great work! Love the fact that you call out the wrench and Allen key sizes make following along much easier - Liked and subscribed!
    Update: SES has returned - just purchased the Beisan systems refurbished solenoid coil pack & new seals....fingers crossed. Getting intermittent error codes, sometimes P0012, P0015, other times P0013, P0014, so its moving from bank A to bank B and back again, light comes on for a few days and goes off for a few days....any suggestions if this returns again? Camshaft position sensor?

Can you make it or just let me in a comment bellow how to do it? I read it online that I need to stop crankshaft from spinning in wrong direction or I could do damage to the engine. I really have no idea how to do that. It's an automatic car. Thanks

      @@ShopLifeTV yes all I do is read pdf and watch your videos along with others . Btw tyvm for replying I appreciate your time.
      Update: removed valve cover. Vanos retaining ring came loose from unit and is stuck in the timing chain under the guide. Some metal fragments and particulates were found in the oil filter because of the retaining clip bouncing around the chain hitting the valve cover and head bolt shaving small pieces of those off.
      I assume this is very bad to have metal anywhere in the oil filter which I think means went through the engine. Hopefully the engine can be saved. Still cranks, turns, starts and runs.
      But after finding all of this out my course of action is to: remove and disassemble the vanos unit with all beisan parts. Also, since the metal shavings/small pieces, flush the engine with new oil and filter 2-3 times to hopefully bring any metal in oil/engine into the filter and out of the car.
      Please advise and suggest, I have talked to Raj from Beisan also and he thinks the motor could be fine, just change the oil filter and rebuild and inspect the vanos as necessary.
      What do you think ShopLifeTV? Is my motor toast or can it be saved?
      Thanks. Longest message ever award goes too... me? >.>

My BMW E90 335i automatic recently went into transmission limo mode, I took it home slowly and once I turned it back on, the car won’t engage gears. Engine sounds perfectly fine, but when I put it on R,D, or DS it will no move. It actually stays still as if it’s on park. The only way the car moves is if it’s on neutral . I am really hoping you can get back to me with any feed back . Thank you

      @lil prick re-timed mine the 4th, or was it the 5th time. this time only touching the exhaust side and code came up after 500miles.
      cleared code and cleared adaptations, so 400miles and counting so far no codes yet.
