Just to give some numbers on this if you're not deep into the mtg finance scene the previous series of lottery cards (Inventions/Invocations/etc) had a minimum print run of 5k each, so there are at least 5k Invention Sol Rings out there. Invention Sol Rings sell for $800 each currently - so it would follow that an X/400 Sol Ring would be significantly higher than this (and this doesn't take into account the popularity of the IP, etc). I don't know why some people are so surprised at these high prices when some of them actually appear to be pretty low when you consider the actual rarity of the cards in question.
Yeah, agree 100%. I think the surprising thing is reading about it in… NPR or having random twitch Steamers saying they’re buying $100K worth of product (I mean, it’s good content for them). I think the introduction of the interlopers is the more surprising thing but something that should have been absolutely expected.
Never been in to magic, I do enjoy LotR and was close to hitting the buy button, I didn’t. I’ve seen everyone and their Gran opening it, even sports breakers who are clueless and I’ve gotta say I’m very underwhelmed and pretty glad I dodged it. On the prices, surely very few cards hold any value outside of the rings.
