Oh dip! And you liked it! Even better! Cymbals are turned up because I crash so much that I like to limit the flop. And also I have no clue what I’m doing lol. That ride in particular was way dryer that I’m used to. 22 inch kick. All natural sound because…. I’m 44. When I came up, you had to hit the drums and make them speak. That gets lost a lot nowadays imo.
Josh, your work has always been amazing, but it seems like your playing out of your mind on Vaxis II, it's the best part of a top tier album. Thank you so much for playing the drums for us all. And please do more of these videos with the commentary!
Saw Coheed live last year in Birmingham AL and Josh @WeerdScienceTV smacks that snare with sooooo much power I loved it so much and they are great live especially little messing around in between songs with Claudio on the keyboard
i remember coheed was the band that made me have that light bulb moment with how important dynamics and space are. one of the few bands that changes their sound pretty much every album and it's ALWAYS good
I know this is late - but yeah, I've been a fan since '03. They're so delightful. Can't wait to catch them on their current tour. Hope you're well, COTF!
Hands down favorite drummer. Josh’s playing has always had detailed nuances to his playing. He stated that he also is very hands on when setting up on tour. Not just relying on the techs.
Josh is also my favorite drummer ever...Coheed and Cambria are my favorite band, so maybe I'm somewhat biased lol, and him being my favorite drummer says alot because I'm also a huge TOOL, RUSH, AVENGED SEVENFOLD, fan and alot of other bands and genres for that matter. His talent, passion, and ability to just play the drums, always in the pocket & groove (without over playing) to fit the song. It's like you couldn't imagine the drums on every song any other way. Completely incredible. And if you also know what he's been through in his personal life and came back even better than ever, then you should really find him a real true inspiration. JOSH EPPARD AND COHEED AND CAMBRIA FOREVER-ONE AMONG THE FENCE!! PS- Josh is not only so amazingly talented, but a real down to earth and humble guy, if you ever have the pleasure of meeting him 😊
Josh is definitely one of my favorite drummers ever. I love his style and his setup. I'm definitely a simple man when it comes to playing drums, and Josh is a master when it comes to making the most out of what you have. He inspires my playing in a big way.
So glad you got to this! Josh is a beast. Honestly, Coheed not only met, but EXCEEDED my expectations on this most recently album. Just another reason that they are a phenomenon band.
Coheed and Cambria have been my favourite band for nearly 20 years, and while every member of the band, past and present, have been incredible, Josh has always felt like the heart of Coheed. Whenever you hear him talk about the band and project they are working on, he always sounds like the biggest fan of what they are doing. He stepped away from the band for a while and was replaced with Chris Pennie, with Taylor Hawkins recording one of the albums due to contractual issues, and Chris is an animal behind the kit, he just wasn't Coheed, Josh is. I've also met the band a handful of times and all of them are absolute sweethearts, always happy to see fans and have a quick chat before kicking ass on the stage. I'm so glad to see him getting some love here!
Dude I was literally about to come and comment “If Claudio is the brains of Coheed and Cambria, Josh is no doubt the heart”. Coheed did not “feel” the same while he stepped away.
what i like about Josh's playing is, many moons ago i heard him talking about influences/growing up playing along to feel-based/nuanced (but not in your face technicality) music like Sly & The Family Stone, and he liked the single pedal and open handed playing because having a good feel was super important to him...I love it and even now, his parts always sound like it was written specifically to compliment the music being played by the band & section of the song. nothing but love for this man
I've been on a Josh binge since Drumeo posted their hour long interview with him last week. Was happy to discover his personal channel and these playthroughs. I hope you get the chance to watch the Drumeo interview, and I also wanted to say thank you for the tip about relaxing your jaw. Not that I'm a drummer, but the moment you said that, I realized that I had my teeth clenched for literally no reason!
Josh is an amazing drummer, and person. Hes genuine and will talk your ear off if you give him the chance to. In addition to his drumming, I'd suggest giving a signal boost to his other project, Drum Set Confessional. He's dealt with addiction a lot in his life and creates DSC to give people a platform to be open about their addiction and recovery.
LOOOOOOOVE Coheed! Highly recommend you check out the other video he did of "Rise, Naianasha." It's the song that follows Ladders on the album and continues a bit of that beat at the end
AHHHH I’m so glad you’ve reacted to Josh…he did plenty of these for the new record. Can’t wait til you see him do Love Murder One. That groove is amazing
Good shout to make a video on Josh he is my favourite drummer, along with Will Bowerman from Brontide. But Josh has so many tasty drum parts he's written over the past 20 odd years and Coheed spans so many genres. Best band.
Taylor Hawkins also helped record the drums on one of their records Good Apollo I’m Burning Star IV: No World For Tomorrow. Josh left the band due to a chemical dependency and Coheed needed a drummer. Since Josh has come back he still nails the songs he didn’t write.
Wait til you learn Josh is actually a phenomenal rapper who has released 5 albums as a hip hop artist as a side gig to being a drummer in a prog band lol
Josh is one of a kind. You should do a reaction video to Josh's reaction video of these playthroughs. EDIT: I FINALLY WORKED OUT HOW TO PLAY 3:33 - 3:43 USING A REGULAR CROSS-HANDED (whatever it's called) TECHNIQUE! It only took me + a year. Being self-taught sucks . . . until you finally figure something out and feel like you cracked the Da Vinci Code or some such nonsense. That stupid damn part was driving me mad.
As someone who idolized metal drummers for a long time, he won me over through time, especially when they had chris penne and the soul of the band felt like it was gone. Sure dude is a technical drummer but that feel was gone for those albums, the new albums have such a good feel because of josh
I am not a drummer, but it seems a lot of drummers are time keepers only, there to keep the frame work for the band to create in. Josh is like a surfer, he doesn’t seem to build a frame work, he lives within the waves. Again I have no musical background so I know nothing, but it just makes sense in my mind . Haha My favorite drummer and my favorite band.
Had the opportunity to buy Josh’s premier genx set used on, I think, the first 2 albums in the early 2000’s. Unfortunately didn’t pull the trigger as I had just bought a new premier set.
To borrow from a friends lyric twist on Spirit in the Sky "Never been a drummer, I've drummed but I gotta friend Ringo". That aside are there are some drummers who build 'stick tricks' into some songs as a time keeper? Sure seems that way watching Haruna in the Lovebites live video for Liar Liar.
Coheed Cambria also had Chris Penny for a short while who is one of my favorite drummers he is the original drummer for the band the Dillinger escape plan you should check out some of his videos
@@hughneutron5303yeah, the album before this one was 100% bangers and I played this one once and didn't like it at all. Their first 4 albums are in my top 20 for sure.
@@sintaxerathat's so funny cause i found Vaxis 1 hard to get through and Vaxis 2 full of bangers. Additionally I also have those first 4 records in my top 20( SSTB is my #1)
My dude is smacking the 💩 outta that kit like somebody took his lunch money in the 3rd grade! He's truly a groove type drummer! No matter the song, he's gonna find a way to put some funk in it! Awesome pick! 🤘🏼🥁🤘🏼
It's funny, us fans of C&C know that Josh is absolutely essential to the sound of the band and that his mouth being agape is a profound part of that. They are the second best band in the world (tentatively) The Dear Hunter is my favorite but right up against the back bumper, or maybe riding alongside is Coherd. I hate picking favorites between the two because they both have impacted my life so much but TDH doesn't get the respect they deserve and tbh are more personal to me. But bothe are the absolute best.
He's a left handed drummer, other than Ian Pace, you don't see many of them. Unlike Ian though, Josh keeps his Hi-Hat in the normal right handed position!
Just re watched and bro im so excited for you because this isn't even close to a real representation of Joshs abilities and style. Their older music has some of the real jems. And even anything from the last album. This is just kind of slow and not a true representation of his drum style. I really hope you go on to listening to other classic Josh eppard playthroughs and see his range. ua-cam.com/video/J6fUSkSERNs/v-deo.htmlsi=HxYjTPoeBS_INgER even this from the same jam session is so so so much more epic and I know you would love to see it
Thanks for reacting to any song other than welcome home. Although I would suggest listening to something from an earlier album just because its their best work but for real its nice having someone react to something other than that one boring overplayed song 😅 trust me im a decades long huge fan of this band and its irritating that no one listens to the velorium campers or the willing wells and same with other bands like The Dear Hunter or bayside. Check out coheeds back library its phenominal
I GoPro-ed a song in a gig (its here on UA-cam on my channel,) and I realized in at least this song, I subconsciously hum during some of the parts. Much to my dismay it was out of tune ROFL. Sound quality isn't great either (a testament to how bad stage sound can be at bar gigs... check at your own risk for the laugh at least.)

I’ve borderline idolized Coheed since 2005. So damn near 20 years. They’re such a wonderfully organic and tight band. They’re just phenomenal.

He's the man. I met him on Neverender and he's a super cool dude. You can see just how insanely hard this dude hits in these videos too. Awesome

Exqctly Josh knows how to allow that pop bounce ebb and flow to each instrument and each hit. 🔥truly blessed to have him as a part of Coheed.

broke my heart to not hear this transition in to Rise, Naianasha
The final three songs on this album have to played together in my household. It's the law.
