The real culprits are the three jurors that nullified the death penalty. May every conceivable misfortune in life, both big and small, follow them all of their days.
Just because you’re defending a killer doesn’t mean you can’t show compassion, respect and professionalism to the victims family. This monster confessed to killing 17 people so the lawyers should have reached out a hand to the families as well. Truly disgusting lawyers.
My heart is aching for these poor people. Well? What's sickening was the way the judge allowed our judicial system and the members of that system to be openly and frequently attacked. THEY WERE NOT ON TRIAL. Their client was. He said that he did not know any of the other victim's family members. They now know each other and support each other and are working to prevent things like this from happening. This man is amazing, not just speaking on behalf of himself but on behalf of ALL the victim's families. He gathered their strength together into his body and let it flow from his mouth. He made a statement as a father individually and also made it known that this was an event that affected dozens of people and that he was not the only one in that courtroom who had suffered for almost 5 years waiting for justice. God bless this man! God bless his wife! God bless these fallen people's families! There are still good people in this world! And with his foundation for getting service dogs for victims of gun violence, he is going to fight back and help others endure what other people have to endure if another Cruz shows up! Well if you can’t have evil you can never have good. Unfortunately tragedies can show people their true colors and these families are hard working and determined.

It should have NEVER been allowed. Attacking the defense team rather than making a statement of grief was way out of any legal bounds. How this judge allowed this attack on our justice system I have no idea. This man didn't attack his daughter's assailant, he attacked his defense team. HUH?!?
If the defense team makes a mockery’s of the justice due to these victims, then they deserve the attacks. There is zero reason to be flipping the finger in a courtroom when you’re supposedly there as a “professional”, being paid by our tax dollars as a public defender.

What an amazing father and an amazing statement. He understood exactly why things happened the way they did and understood what defense attorneys have to do and still called them out for their disgusting behavior that went beyond their duty.
The ONLY thing that went 'beyond their duty' was that finger. Otherwise, they were doing exactly what they were SUPPOSED to do. This father knows NOTHING about the justice system and he was talking out of anger, hate and ignorance. I was embarrassed just to listen to it. The purpose of impact statements is to talk about the person who died and to talk about the person found guilty. It is NOT and never has been about attacking the defense counsel for doing their jobs. That judge should have stopped him at once!
Not true. SOMETIMES, the 'justice system' doesn't act in a blind manor of justice. They not only pre-convict a defendant in violation of the Constitution, but attack his defense team as well. THIS HAPPENED HERE. Things were allowed to be done and said in the legal process, TO AND ABOUT THE LEGAL PROCESS that NEVER should have been permitted. This was a complete breakdown of decorum on the part of the judge from day 1.
That seems to be an inherent problem with the legal system that defense attorneys are allowed to metaphorically stick a knife in the wound, many times over. That's why this father is so angry! I can't believe that the parents had to sit through this disgusting mess of a legal system.

It’s actually disturbing that the Supreme Court reprimanded this judge. She had lawyers pushing so hard against her and when she fired back she gets the paddle. That’s BS.
That is the most gripping victim impact statement I’ve ever witnessed. And actually, I’m happy for the family that the sorry sack of garbage didn’t get the death penalty. Remember what happened to Dahmer? He’s going to suffer just as much as those parents and kids in prison, truly suffer. And that’s the thing, even the criminals and guards in prison don’t like him. Thank you so much, sir, for saying what we all wanted to say. Those attorneys have been acting like absolute and utter clowns. To make a mockery of what these people have lost is absolutely monstrous and especially that one woman needs to be disbarred and never ever be allowed to practice again.
The lawyer who said "No one else endured anything like we have in this courtroom" is a clown. Absolute buffoon to even think that was remotely appropriate to say in that context. These families will take this pain to their grave. I'm just appalled that he even had the nerve to say that.
Thank you for speaking out and not letting the defense attorneys off the hook for some of the worst behavior I have seen in a court room. But then, I think most defense attorneys have sold their souls.
Resignation is not an option. I remember when the attorney for the cyber ninjas wanted off the case when he realized it truly was a fraudit. They wouldn't let him off the case.
His staff was being publicly attacked and he did his job: defended them and attempted to protect them. The public defenders had to take this case. They tried to remove themselves, but the judge refused. They are required to defend their client or risk losing their license (and having the case overturned).
As a 30-year trial attorney I can say with confidence that for those defense lawyers this was their worst nightmare, being chewed out by a grieving father, with his saddened wife standing and staring too. The defense lawyers will never forget these days (and probably considering a new law specialty, so s/he never has to face this again). I especially enjoyed watching them squirm, keep their composure, trying to hide by looking away; alas there was nothing they could do except look at the speaker. That was a wise move, lest they risk the bereaved SCREAMING "can't you look at me when I'm talking, can't you show my murdered daughter just a little respect. Just fake it you scumbag!" To avoid that trauma, at 6:48 we see them all shutting up and keep eye contact with the father. Incredibly powerful and moving speech. Disgusting what those parents have had to endure.
This guy blames the gun and wants them banned… the problem is not the guns, it’s the culture that teaches kids zero responsibility.
Wow what a fantastic speaker. Such amazing strength to get up there and speak his truth. This is not something that most people can do. What a great advocate for all the victims and their families.
This Father did an AMAZING job in speaking up for his beautiful daughter’s life.
The defense “Attorney” that stuck up her middle finger and giggled when she did it with the murderer is truly unprofessional and her unprofessional conduct should be investigated.
I have daughters and hearing this man brought tears to my eyes … rest in peace to every soul lost that day
As a father this man is way more stronger than I. There is no way I would be able to control myself if face to face with my child's killer.
What a great dad, so well spoken. My heart breaks for all these families. 💔
Wow. Wow. Beautiful speech. Heartbreaking and delivered so eloquently without tears. I hear strength in those man’s words. It garners respect.
Public defenders don’t even help people that they know are innocent not take a bogus plea. But fighting this case for almost 5 years is insane.
Aren’t cases like this normally 2 years? And when Covid hit, it most likely slowed it down. So 2018-2020, Pause, Start again 2020-2022… idk
No lies being told here
@@GBULL1982 that wasn’t the point. PD usually don’t work this hard for innocent people.
@@ajatathemu Most cases aren't this notorious. They saw an opportunity to make a name for themselves.
Yeah, I find that so fking weird and sick. All this time I thought they were his private lawyers..
Yes, the defense had a legal obligation to the best defense of their client, but they also have a moral obligation and on that point, failed miserably.
Most lawyers don't understand what moral means, fyi!
This victim statement gave me chills. Hope these families can begin to heal from this proceeding and the horrific behaviour of the defence team.
God bless you sir and all these families who lost their children. I’m not sure I could live through losing my child this way. You are incredibly strong.
@Chau Pham don't hold your breath on that one
This makes me glad that he called out his scum attorney team!
@Chau Pham why...hé got life without parole...
It doesn't work that way in the states.
