That instrument is called shehnai which traditionally played during a wedding. Which is beautifully used representing daughter leaving her parent's home, telling her father i will always be your little girl and never leave your side. 😭😭
Almost in every line they used Gujarati(regional language of India) metaphors and that is something that connects me to this song being a Gujarati. I give you one example, when Kirtidan Gadhvi (male singer) starts singing in gujarati, his first line is "o re o parevda, tu kale udi ja je re". It explains how a young bird dives into its first flight and then starts flying on its own by leaving the nest. The same way a loving daughter leaves his father when she marries. A father's urge to her daughter is to stay by him just for one more moment. I can just go on and on and on about these metaphors in Gujarati. 😍

The lyrics is about the dad is requesting her daughter to stay with him one more day on the day of her marriage. He is remembering all the moments they spent together.... The lyrics can make you cry.

@@dougel4709 its a bit different.. the snake charmer's flute is called a "been" shehnai on the other hand is played in weddings...they have a sligtly similar tone though!!
@@dougel4709the Shehnai has a reed mouthpiece, like clarinet. On the other hand, a snakecharmer's _been_ is played by just pursing the lips, puffing your cheeks and blowing air to make a pffffff sound. (like how a didgeridoo is played). But a been has an acoustic chamber (made from a dried gourd) to amplify the sound.
As with any song, some cultural notes will help appreciate the nuances in this song:
This song is rich with metaphors and symbolism drawn from the old era when the daughter was married off to far off lands at a young age, and she lost all contact with her parents after that. In an era where there was no post or phone, the girl was totally cut off from the world she knew and cherished.
A lot of Indian songs describe the longing of the newly married girl who pines for her parents and friends. In some songs, the young woman pleads with migratory birds or even the wind to bring some news about her parents, or to convey her message to them.
This particular song expresses the wish of a girl to remain forever at the side of her dear father. She complains why her father has turned away, forcing her to go away. She asks pitifully what she has done to deserve this vengeful act.
The father also feels that she should remain for a little more by his side, and not leave him so soon. In his mind, she is the same little, sweet child he held in his arms.

The instrument is flute which is mostly used in indian folk music (especially gujarati folk)

This represents something more like the folk songs that are popular in indian marriages when the daughter leaves her parents home and shows the daughters emotional feelings for her parents, especially the father.

This genre is called fusion where we have traditional Indian poetry / prose which is composed in Rajathani in this case (ladki in Hindi means daughter but in Rajasthani it is pronounced laadki). This is then infused with contemporary musical instruments as well as traditional indian instruments used in Indian classical music. Fusion was discovered by groups like Indian Ocean, singers like Shankar Mahadevan & Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, and composers like A. R. Rehman.
