    Looks like so much fun! I guess if the red guitar at 15:00 is a SG style the blue/red one after that is a Firebird? Even the tuners says so 😻

    Why would it matter if it is one piece or 25000 pieces?

    • @EytschPi42
      @EytschPi42  4 місяці тому

      that is a big discussion... but it matters... tone is all about resonance in the material that the strings are attached to. If you have different pieces of density and hardness, vibration might be stopped by the different properties.
      Fact is... others use one or two pieces for the same money.

    • @hannuhanhi183
      @hannuhanhi183 4 місяці тому +1

      @@EytschPi42 Yes that is a big discussion and leads to the tonewood debate. I'm not going into that never ending swamp.
      Let's think what you have stated, one piece is better than multipiece because of the resonant qualities of the one piece.
      So, gluing together pieces of wood of different hardness and density would create a barrier which would kill the resonance, right? Now, in the one piece of wood this barrier would not exist and therefore it would resonate better.
      This really doesn't make any sense because in wood the density and hardness change all the time especially in the north south direction. When the plant was alive it grew faster in the south side than in the north side. Wink wink, more sun in the south. Also, the time of year causes density variation called year rings in the wood. In the primary growth season in summer the density is smaller and, in the winter, greater.
      If density variation would be some kind of a resonance killer, then swamp ash would be inferior wood for guitars because it has big difference in hardness and density between the yearly growth rings. Same applies also to pine and ash and numerous
      other wood species.
      If multipiece wood construction is worse resonance wise, then multipiece necks are worse than single piece necks, any evidence on that? To be honest I think that this one-piece theory is just another myth to be busted.

    • @JoeBaermann
      @JoeBaermann 4 місяці тому

      Question is more, which harmonics you prefer comming from the resonant properties and if you even need/want them at all.
      For the longevity of the strings resonance (sustain) the 2 contact points of the strings and stability of the material from stringend to stringend matters more, but even that can be expanded further with a compressor.
      And for that it doesn’t matter if it’s one or multiple pieces there either, comes down to how well it is done.
      Think multiple piece neck-through designs for a second.

    • @hannuhanhi183
      @hannuhanhi183 4 місяці тому

      @@JoeBaermann Yes you are correct about the sustain. If the fixing point of the string to neck through nut or to body through saddle and bridge is "rubbery" or flexible and not solid and firm the kinetic energy (vibration) is consumed in the joint and the guitar would have poor sustain.
      Here is the thing, if you look at the equation of vibrating string you probably notice that it assumes that the fixing end point has infinite mass. This is of course not true in practice. The mass the string is attached to is big but it's not infinite. This results to that the kinetic energy of the string is also vibrating the fixing point which in turn is also vibrating the entity it is attached to, the body or neck.
      If the fixing point had infinite mass the kinetic energy of vibration would be consumed by the friction of the air and the internal friction of the string because nothing would bleed out of the system.
      To conclude this in practical level. It makes sense to swap out the flimsy trem block on your strat to beefier and heavier one. This would increase the mass the string is attached to (saddle and block) and reduce the bleed of vibration to body increasing sustain because more of the kinetic energy would stay in the string.
      So, you can have an acoustically silent guitar with good sustain. I have one I made for test purposes. The body is made out of resin and weighs 6kg. It's acoustically very silent but has the best sustain of all of my guitars.
      Why acoustically loud guitars can also have good sustain?. Maybe I will explain that in another post.

    • @JoeBaermann
      @JoeBaermann 4 місяці тому

      @@hannuhanhi183
      It also helps to use trems with more contact than what the 2 small saddle screws add, besides that loose saddles aren’t very stable, but even some trems with fixed saddles suck because the post/knife contact points are done badly.
      Max possible sustain is as simple as a lapsteel guitar, doubt there is anything that lets the strings ring closer to the duration they can ring than that without altering it via electronics, like using compressor, sustainiac etc.
      As someone else said at a point, a string attached to full mass sustain has a lifespan that can’t be expanded without altering it artificially.
      I doubt that there are many that want max. possible though, unless there is some sort of doom metal with clean guitar sounds 🤣
